To think it's a bit manky to spend Xmas Day in your pyjamas

Or PJs/jammies as people call them on here.

Are these the new PJs from the Christmas Eve box that you've slept in all night or do you shower and put a fresh pair on?

It's not exactly a John Lewis tableau is it? Parents and children tucking into their turkey/nut roast in their manky nightwear. Have a shower and get dressed you lazy beggars!

I don’t really pay much attention to what other people choose to do on Xmas day - too busy enjoying it myself!

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2019 11:10

I wouldn't classify it as manky. That's a bit much. I'd say it's slovenly though...

🤣

Andypromqueen · 21/12/2019 11:10

I have thought ahead this year and bought a pair of glittery stretchy pants - a bit like partywear yoga pants - comfy but festive! Would feel scruffy in my pj's.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/12/2019 11:11

Shocking! Everyone should get dressed in their tasteful best (no vulgar Christmas jumpers please") and after an exquisite breakfast at a tastefully decorated table, they can all go to the linhay, where it's traditional to open their beautifully wrapped presents.

At least, that was according to a hilariously pretentious 'perfect Christmas' piece I once read, about someone with a Georgian manor house or some such.
I still don't know WTF a 'linhay' is. Over the former stables, where they used to keep the hay?

Littleem1983 · 21/12/2019 11:12

**Couldn’t give a shiny shite what others do on Christmas Day!

Sit in the nude with your nipples in your gravy for all I care!

@instagrrr literally made my day!!!

Skyejuly · 21/12/2019 11:13

I love my hubby more in pjs than I do when hes dressed up for work!

RaininSummer · 21/12/2019 11:14

I have never understood why a person would shower and then put pjs back on, clean or otherwise. I feel really wrong like that.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 21/12/2019 11:16

Who wants to live in a John Lewis tableau ?

YABU Its up to individuals what they wear

mindproject · 21/12/2019 11:23

When I'm at home that is pretty much all I wear, unless people are coming round. Christmas is no exception. Why not be comfy? I change pyjamas every 2 or 3 days - nothing manky about that.

NewName73 · 21/12/2019 11:25

On MN people either wear their PJs all day on Xmas day or spend months in advance planning their DC's special outfits.

Mehhhhhh.

Each to his own, I say.

sandragreen · 21/12/2019 11:26

I feel really sorry for anyone whose aims for Christmas are for it to be a "John Lewis tableau" Really tragic. Sad

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 21/12/2019 11:27

It's not my way, but neither is it my business what other people do. We have to get dressed to go to Mass, otherwise I might be in my dressing gown for a significant part of the day, if I felt like it.

What other people do doesn't hurt me, and being sneered at is hurtful to many people so I try not to do that.

TheOliphantintheRoom · 21/12/2019 11:27

I don't know why people keep going "why do you care what other people do! ?" Abiu wouldn't exist if no one commented on what other people do!

Indeed Grin

In my family PJs are for the initial present opening. Then after the excitement of present opening and perhaps opening up the Quality Street tin, people peel off one by one to go get fancy for Xmas dinner.
I don't actually know anyone who stays in their PJs all day. I would probably personally feel grotty if I did that, but I guess one day a year doesn't matter.
I'm having Xmas at my MILs house this year, though, because my due date is Boxing Day and I'll be buggered if my water breaks just after putting a turkey in the oven!
So I'll be avoiding Xmas PJs completely this year.
To each their own though! Xmas Wink

I work as a nurse

In your pyjamas?

Actually, those awful scrubs nurses wear on the wards aren't a good look in a professional environment.

You have lots of opinions on how people should be spending Christmas OP....... chill out, don't worry what other people are doing enjoy your own Christmas

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 21/12/2019 11:35

Grasp away OP, somebody posted something you could clutch to your bosom as validation for sneering at what other people do... ho ho ho

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 21/12/2019 11:36

"Actually, those awful scrubs nurses wear on the wards aren't a good look in a professional environment."

Cringe.

Bbq1 · 21/12/2019 11:36

Oh god yeah definitely agree with pp re the "shower" after swimming and pj's. When my ds was younger and had swimming lessons I was astounded at the amount of people that gave their child a quick rinse under the shower with a bit of shampoo and shower gel and then put them in their pj'sHmmHow does a quick rinse still wearing clothes(swin kit) constitute a proper shower? My ds used to have a quick rinse off then come home and have a proper shower or a soak in the bath. Communal.showers and changing rooms in leisure centre are a bit grim...sorry, gone totally off topic here!

BigusBumus · 21/12/2019 11:37

I genuinely think its gross and slovenly.

CareOfPunts · 21/12/2019 11:41

I agree OP. I’m not the boss of other people of course and they can do what they like but I’m not a fan of dossing around in pyjamas at any time.

JonnyPocketRocket · 21/12/2019 11:42

This is where I've been going wrong all my life. I didn't even realise I was supposed to be trying to be part of a John Lewis tableau.

81Byerley · 21/12/2019 11:43

@TheOliphantintheRoom I totally agree with you. Up-showered-dressed- breakfast-presents in this house!

MrsEnglishh · 21/12/2019 11:51

We always used to get dressed up for Christmas Dinner then realised no one really wanted to. Now we all have lovely new PJs for Christmas Eve and wear them straight through Christmas Day. One of the highlights of the day for the DC is donning their dressing gowns and running out in the STREET to the car to go to my parents' on Christmas morning - they absolutely love it.

Thankfully, none of us are uptight about what material people cover their bodies with, so we relish a day of being comfy and cosy without an hour taken out of the day to primp. It's glorious. I don't care what anyone thinks Grin

MrsEnglishh · 21/12/2019 11:53

Oh, OP. That's a bit embarrassing for you. Did you mean to be so cringey?
