To think it's a bit manky to spend Xmas Day in your pyjamas

Or PJs/jammies as people call them on here.

Are these the new PJs from the Christmas Eve box that you've slept in all night or do you shower and put a fresh pair on?

It's not exactly a John Lewis tableau is it? Parents and children tucking into their turkey/nut roast in their manky nightwear. Have a shower and get dressed you lazy beggars!

I got home Christmas eve last yest with brand new dd2, dd1 was 15 months old also so the last thing I wanted to do was bother about getting dressed up- had a lovely day, so lovely that pyjamas are a choice this year- comfy clothes, nice food, hugs on sofa with DC watching movies, playing games - just family stuff...

If we had extended family & friends coming over I think I'd get us all dressed up though...but prefer my way for now.

Does it matter what you wear? As long as you're having a nice day that's surely all that counts?

*year...obvs

BarkandCheese · 21/12/2019 10:07

I really hate the idea of wearing PJs all day on any day. I associate it with being ill and I’d feel horrible eating Christmas dinner in them, and if I was hosting Christmas I’d expect my guests to get dressed (although not necessarily dressed up) before we ate.

However what other people do in their own houses is none of my business.

blibblibs · 21/12/2019 10:11

I'll be sitting eating Christmas dinner that I cooked, in my house in my manky Pjs and loving every minute of it Xmas Smile
Shower before bed, sleep in pants, wash & brush teeth change pants and Pjs on in the morning. So no different to most people but rather than putting a dress or some such thing on I'm wearing something comfy in my own home. Christmas day evening before sitting down to slob in front of the TV, shower and new wizard of oz Pjs, cannot wait. In fact once I get home from work on Xmas eve it could be a good few days before I wear clothes again.
Nothing manky about it and thankfully I'm sharing Christmas with people who couldn't care less what I'm wearing.

Bezalelle · 21/12/2019 10:12

I'm convinced the world would be a better place if people just let others do as they pleased (as in, petty inconsequential stuff like this).

TheOliphantintheRoom · 21/12/2019 10:13

I'm not saying you have to get "dressed up" but you should have a wash and put clean clothes on. It's not difficult unless you're Manky McMinging.

I would feel manky if I stayed in pjs all day from the night before so I would never do it but I don't care what other people do.

speakout · 21/12/2019 10:18

I wouldn't ever wear PJs through the day.

If I am going to the effort of showering/changing then I put on clean comfortable clothes.
I need to wear a bra, it seems silly to wear one under pjs.

A set of jammies are not warm enough, I wear a few layers of clothes, so would you wear a cardi or dressing gown on top?
Also jammies often are baggy and have loose sleeves- horrible for cooking or washing up.
I dress as soon as I wake.
Always. I don't even eat breakfast in pjs.

Littleshortcake · 21/12/2019 10:20

I couldn't do it.. I do love a day relaxing at home but on Christmas day it's nice to feel good and dress up. Have a party upstyle booked at the hairdressers too Grin even though will be at home.

DBML · 21/12/2019 10:23

My sister was released from hospital on Christmas Eve evening once and we were all having Christmas up my mums. She was still very poorly and sore following an operation, so we knew she’d barely be out of bed in Christmas Day.

We all decided to buy Christmas pjs to wear on the occasion. I got up and showered as usual, put on my makeup, did my hair and slipped into pink pyjamas covered in glittery stars. We wore pjs all day in support.

And, it’s the most comfortable Christmas we’ve ever had!

GimmeBread · 21/12/2019 10:24

@GenuineKlatchianPottery sounds like heaven to me!

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 21/12/2019 10:25

"I'm not saying you have to get "dressed up" but you should have a wash and put clean clothes on. It's not difficult unless you're Manky McMinging"

Are clean clothes any more "clean" than clean pyjamas? Do you wear the same stuff to bed every night without ever washing it OP? I think the Manky McMinging might be you if your stuff us that dirty.

Straycatstrut · 21/12/2019 10:26

*No, it’s really not worthy of discussion. Why are you trying to wind people up, it’s not like it’s not a stressful enough time of year without you being a gf. Leave other people to do what makes them happy & Nyon, it does affect you in the slightest!

Oh & I'm not being defensive as I don’t spend the day in my sleepwear - given I sleep in my birthday suit, everyone will be thankful for that!*

Thanks for the laugh!! & absolutely this. Grin

mrsbyers · 21/12/2019 10:28

John Lewis Tableau - seriously that’s exactly what has ruined Christmas for so many , getting into debt and stress to achieve some sort of media produced ideal. PJ’s and a fish finger sandwich and I’d be happy

Christmaspug · 21/12/2019 10:30

I’m a mean wicked mama ,
Everyone has to be washed and dressed before presents are opened ,no pj here

SpeckledyHen · 21/12/2019 10:30

Live and let live . It would be my dream day but no such luck unfortunately .
Happy Manky Christmas 🎄 one and all .

joystir59 · 21/12/2019 10:32

Jack Russell dropping copious amounts of white hair here so we don't wear nice clothes around the house but will wear nice-ish jeans and sweater Xmas day.

Instagrrr · 21/12/2019 10:35

Couldn’t give a shiny shite what others do on Christmas Day!

Sit in the nude with your nipples in your gravy for all I care!

Xmas Wink
Straycatstrut · 21/12/2019 10:35

The boys are getting pjs in their xmas eve boxes. Not xmas ones, themed with things they like (Thomas train & camo). All beds are getting a full strip down and sheets washed today.

They'll probably wear them until 11ish, playing about and get changed into their hideous xmas jumpers (gifted by xmil) before I start making dinner. I'll be in a black top, black leggings & boots as per Grin.

EstuaryBird · 21/12/2019 10:36

DH and I home alone at Christmas. We will get up, shower and put on clean pjs and it’s absolutely none of anybody else’s bloody business but ours OP,

peakygal · 21/12/2019 10:38

This Xmas myself and my 3 DDs are having a pj Xmas. Every other year we get dressed up and this year we fancied a change. All that matters is we are happy with a roof over our heads. No ones business what anyone wears in their own homes Hmm

Abraid2 · 21/12/2019 10:39

I can’t imagine not leaving the house all day—unless it was pouring down. Eating all that food and sitting around in pyjamas makes me feel a bit shop-soiled.

TheOliphantintheRoom · 21/12/2019 10:40

Couldn't find a man in pyjamas attractive tbh

OP posts:
selmabear · 21/12/2019 10:41

I've yet to spend xmas day in my pyjamas but most sundays I do, favourite day of the week!

Fizzypoo · 21/12/2019 10:41

I suppose the manky pj squad vs the up do john Lewis esq squad could actually come down to the age old MN debate of whether you wear your pants when you wear pyjamas.

I don't so I would feel strange not wearing pants next to my extended family at the table. I like my fanjo to breathe when I go to sleep.
