Would you be sad if the Queen died?

I've just been reading the thread about Prince Phillip going into hospital and a poster said they wouldn't be sad if the Queen passed, as she doesn't actually know who we are.

I'm not a royalist by any means and I don't know how I'd feel if the news broke that she died.

How would you feel?

The 'no, I don't know her' gang will be the same people who will wail in the streets when Attenborough goes too.

What a weird thing to think. I don't wail in the street for anyone I don't know. I'm can be sad for families of deceased people especially if the circumstances of the death are tragic but I can't feel too sad when an old privileged person who has had a good life dies.

DickDewy · 21/12/2019 19:51

I think one of the first thoughts I'd have is, 'will we get a day off work?' Grin

AdoptedBumpkin · 21/12/2019 19:53

I will be sad. Not in a personal way, but for her family and the royalists.

feelingsinister · 21/12/2019 21:11

There's a lot of people talking about how she's been working hard and doing the job for so long etc

What does she actually do? She doesn't have to cook, clean, drive, sort out bills and all that.

Her role seems to consist of ceremonial events, state dinners and in the past, foreign trips.

I'm not really seeing the hard work or the sacrifice here.

DickDewy · 21/12/2019 21:14

I can't stand all the 'they work hard' bollocks.

They really don't.

LakieLady · 21/12/2019 21:22

Despite being a republican, I would feel a little sad.

Primarily because it would mean her twat of a son would be king, and I have zero respect for him. Despite not agreeing with the monarchy, Betty has done a fine job for a long, long time.

I think the monarchy should end with her death. She'll be an impossible act to follow.

Hushabyelullaby · 21/12/2019 21:22

I will be sad for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. No matter who you are losing your mum/nan/great nan is not easy - whether they are royal doesn’t matter.

patsycrime · 21/12/2019 21:45

No

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/12/2019 21:54

Not upset but she has worked hard over her lifetime and it's not a role I would like to fulfill myself .

I does piss me off that she refuses to wear a riding hat . Ok , her choice but she is a role model to many .
I'm sure she is an expert and experienced equestrian and her beautiful Fell ponies are bombproof . But horses can 'fail' ( remember one of Charles' favourite ponies died , I think when he was on it , just before he married Diana . ) . I have known a horse who died and fell from a heart attack , onto it;s rider .

Bu she must protect herself from Hat Hair Hmm

InsertFunnyUsername · 21/12/2019 22:02

No. But then I also dont agree with how hard she must work, thankless job etc. Food banks, poverty, crime and our government, all things she dont really get that involved in. Or it seems she doesn't, because how could you sit around all that privilege whilst parts of Britain go to the pits. Someone will always say but that's not her job, well what do we have her for?!

Deadjinglebellringer · 21/12/2019 22:10

I would be sad, I am not British and not interested in royalty but my mum is exactly the same age and I have this daft idea that the longer she lives the longer my mum has.

Motherontheedge1 · 21/12/2019 22:36

Charles was always going to be king. Although the way he behaved shows he isn’t an honourable person it annoys me that there has been a campaign to make Camilla more acceptable treating the British public as if they’re to stupid to see what’s going on. So basically bad and dishonourable behaviour has been rewarded. We were also told that just because they were married it didn’t mean she was going to be queen. Really? I object to being treated as if I were stupid.

HairyToity · 21/12/2019 22:37

No. She's had a good innings.

PinkiOcelot · 21/12/2019 22:40

I wouldn’t be. Why would I?
She’s old. She’s lived a very privileged life. Nothing to mourn.

FannyCann · 21/12/2019 23:04

I shall be extremely sad. She's devoted her life to her duty and is an example to us all. We won't see her like again. (Which also applies to many others of her generation).

MustardScreams · 21/12/2019 23:06

Devoted to us all. That’s sycophant speak.

It’s so weird people are so in love with the RF. They’re above everyone, and yes the donate to charity and whatnot, but they’re a pointless rich family with far too much influence. Stop being taken in by glittery gems.

Snuffkindle · 21/12/2019 23:07

I think it'll be a weird feeling. Most of us have had her as queen for all or most of our lives. I do think she has been a good monarch and that constant is a good thing. I will feel sad/nostalgic. After she goes I think they should be disbanded though. What's the point? Wiiliam.and Harry have married commoners, so their kids are only half royal now. I think it's time we stopped paying for them all.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 21/12/2019 23:09

Nope

Old women die every day. Few of them will have had such a long and pleasant life as the Queen.

MaggieMcSplash · 21/12/2019 23:14

Yes. I like the Queen.

SuperMeerkat · 21/12/2019 23:23

Aww, i’d be sad. I don’t know her personally and i’m not a royalist but she’s served our country well for more than 60 years. She should definitely get a good send off when her time comes.

Iamthewombat · 22/12/2019 00:32

The subservience on this thread! How can you suck up to this rich, posh, spoiled old woman? The most demanding thing she has ever done is shake hands and say, “have you come far?”.

As for ‘she has been a constant in my life’: so what? Will you be distraught when Angela Lansbury dies? She’s in her nineties. How about Honor Blackman? How about Oxo cubes? Super noodles? They have all been constants in your lives, too. Get a grip!

As others have noted, any sadness associated with her death will be caused by the tidal wave of obsequious press coverage. However, there is a silver lining.

I enjoy a good ‘hate watch’, and one of my favourite arse lickers is Ingrid Seward, ‘editor in chief’ (!!! as if there were more than one editor and the publication was Vogue or something) of Majesty magazine (online only, available to subscribers, all 50 of whom you just know are 70+ and collect royal china).

Ol’ Ingrid hasn’t been on telly much lately: the cheaper news programmes wheel her out for royal weddings or royal births etc. She has clearly never met any of the royal lizard family, but she never allows that to stand in her way when telling us what QE2 probably thinks about something (eg Meghan and Harry christening their kid without a 21 gun salute).

The demise of Queenie will open the door for Ingrid to appear on Channel 5 news etc. to tell us what the queen was thinking on her deathbed and what Camilla might wear for the funeral. I’ll really enjoy that.

teentree · 22/12/2019 00:48

she’s served our country well for more than 60 years.

What has she done to 'serve' the country?

I mean she has been the queen for a long time due to circumstances and nothing more, but what has she done to serve us?

feelingsinister · 22/12/2019 09:42

@teentree I agree. People keep throwing out these statements but they mean nothing.

Please tell us what she does for us because I don't have a bloody clue. Seems like fuck all to me.

This is why I like the Queen.

beautifulstranger101 · 22/12/2019 13:47

*I can't stand all the 'they work hard' bollocks.

They really don't*

Thats a bit unfair. They do wave at people lot. And shake hands with people.
That must be hard work- your arm must hurt after a while. Grin
