Would you be sad if the Queen died?

I've just been reading the thread about Prince Phillip going into hospital and a poster said they wouldn't be sad if the Queen passed, as she doesn't actually know who we are.

I'm not a royalist by any means and I don't know how I'd feel if the news broke that she died.

How would you feel?

I'd not be sad. I don't know her. She's had a privileged life and is old- not much to be sad about.

dementedma · 21/12/2019 16:37

I will be sad in an end of an era kind of way. I admire her dignity.
I work with the Armed Forces and it will be a v busy time for the folks on ceremonial duty.

NoSauce · 21/12/2019 16:37

I will actually. I’m no royalist but I do have a soft spot for the queen.

Nah.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 21/12/2019 16:42

I'd be sad I think. I'm not a raging royalist, I'd rather have them than not on balance, but I wouldn't organise a street party for a jubilee or anything.

But she's all I've ever known as a head of state and singing "god save the king" is going to be bloody weird.

Also I like having a female head of state. I like that (technically) the armed forces are all sworn to her, not to the government, I like that she's this tiny little old lady who just keeps going on and on and on. The Duracell Monarch.

Yes, I think I'll be very sad when she goes.

Lizzie0869 · 21/12/2019 16:44

Definitely posted too soon. I was meaning to say that I suspect that the Queen could well fade quickly once Prince Philip has passed away.

I will be sad, as like a lot of you have said, she's always been there. But she'll have had a 'good innings', as the saying goes.

ManonBlackbeak · 21/12/2019 16:46

I didn't think I would be, she's had a very long life after all. But there was a thread on here the other week about a social media rumour that she'd died and I was shocked at how upset I felt. Even if it was for a split second.

IpanemaGallina · 21/12/2019 16:47

Yes I’d be sad but she’s lived a good life and her public service has been faultless.

fairydustandpixies · 21/12/2019 16:50

Had this conversation with my mum today. We'd both be so sad. HM has done a bloody good job for far longer than most of us will ever work doing an impossible role.

Fishcakey · 21/12/2019 16:51

I would feel sad. She seems nice and she hasn't put a foot wrong. It won't affect me but it's always sad when someone dies.

Riddleofthesands · 21/12/2019 16:52

Yes, end of an era, I am a republican but I completely admire and respect the current Queen.

sue51 · 21/12/2019 16:56

It would be the end of an era but it wouldn't sadden me. She has had long life, enjoyed good health, a happy marriage and has never known hunger. Most people, whatever their status, would be happy to look back on that.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 21/12/2019 17:04

I mean who isnt going to miss a woman making a speech about austerity sitting in front of a gold piano, she's just like us common folk Hmm

Hesperatum · 21/12/2019 17:12

Yes. I would be sad

mindproject · 21/12/2019 17:15

Do the lizard people die? I'd be surprised, but not sad.

heath48 · 21/12/2019 17:18

Yes I will be sad, only because I remember the Coronation,so she has been around as long as I remember.

I like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as well,as for the rest,I couldn’t give a kipper about them.

funmummy48 · 21/12/2019 17:23

I wouldn't be bothered.

derxa · 21/12/2019 17:25

I’d be sad in a nostalgic and end of an era way. Yes she's from a generation who valued duty. I admire her for her never complain never explain attitude.

sqirrelfriends · 21/12/2019 17:30

Not really, as much as any person I don't know who died in non tragic circumstances. She had a good and privileged life, reached an old age. What's there to feel sad about?

It actually annoys me when people go on and on about notable people and celebrities dying like it's some huge tragedy. People die, it's sad to the people who knew them but what it to you?

I do however feel sad when kids die, that's horribly unfair.

carlywurly · 21/12/2019 17:34

I'll be sadder about David Attenborough, if I'm totally honest

everythingisginandroses · 21/12/2019 17:46

No.

whymewhyme · 21/12/2019 17:48

I would be sad

Devendra · 21/12/2019 17:50

Really wouldn't care one bit.

maddiemookins16mum · 21/12/2019 17:51

I’d be sad for her children and Grandchildren. Queen or not, she’s a Mum and Granny and it’s bloody hard losing someone you love.
