Would you be sad if the Queen died?

I've just been reading the thread about Prince Phillip going into hospital and a poster said they wouldn't be sad if the Queen passed, as she doesn't actually know who we are.

I'm not a royalist by any means and I don't know how I'd feel if the news broke that she died.

How would you feel?

I reckon we'd get a day off work for her funeral and then another one for the coronation, I'd be pretty happy with that.

VanyaHargreeves · 20/12/2019 22:22

A bit.

I'll be more interested in the spectacle

I think National Events Of Dignified But Extraordinary Spectacle is something the British are peerless at.

For example look at the absolute state of Mandela's funeral.

It was the farewell to a national hero and it was a cheap classless shambles

beautifulstranger101 · 20/12/2019 22:22

Not really, no. I mean, I wouldn't be happy or anything like that but I'm not going to be crying about it or anything. I dont know her personally and frankly, I dont really agree with one person having so much wealth when so many in this country are struggling.

Sad? Sort of - end of a life, end of an era and all that
But would I feel grief? Absolutely not.

Jodie77 · 20/12/2019 22:23

I would feel sad that an old lady had died. Same as if I read about any other old lady in the paper. I don't think it's a good thing when anybody dies. When people celebrated thatchers death I found that very distasteful. No matter who the individual is, what they stand for, I would not revel in their death. I would forget about it a few moments after and get on with my life. It wouldn't come back to me in quiet moments like the things that really upset me though

vinoandbrie · 20/12/2019 22:23

Very sad, it will be the end of an era. The Queen has been a constant all my life, and even all my mum’s life.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 20/12/2019 22:23

I wouldn't be sad as such, as I disagree with the principle of Monarchy. I hope I live long enough to see a Republic.
However, I'd imagine it would be a truly world event so the coverage would be interesting (as well as incessant.)

malmi · 20/12/2019 22:23

I think a lot of people who don't think they will be affected, will be. Not because they secretly love the Queen but because she has been a "constant" in a world where everything else has been changing. Something like that anyway

VanyaHargreeves · 20/12/2019 22:24

Oh and also the death of The Queen will mean :

State Funeral - Day Off
Coronation Of Charles - Day Off
Investiture Of William and Kate as Prince and Princess Of Wales - Day Off?

Jenpop234 · 20/12/2019 22:24

Yes. I'd be sad as she's a fantastic lady who's served the people well during her time as monarch.

WeArnottamused · 20/12/2019 22:24

No, I don’t know her?!

Livelovebehappy · 20/12/2019 22:25

I would be sad, just the same as I’m sad for anyone who dies, because you’re not just sad for that person, but the loss to their loved ones; empathy I guess. I wouldn’t be sad enough to shed a tear, but she’s the only monarch I’ve lived through so it’s the end of an era.

TeamLannister · 20/12/2019 22:25

No

Milsplus3 · 20/12/2019 22:25

No, our country is full of homeless people and poor, underfed families while she sits on the Bank of England and could turn it around but doesn’t. Maybe far fetched but the point is she doesn’t care about us so why should we.

adhdme2019 · 20/12/2019 22:25

I’d be really sad. Makes me sad even thinking about it.

I remember when my grandparents were really old thinking that one day they’d die and just being unable to imagine that day and I feel the same about her.

Stravapalava · 20/12/2019 22:25

I don't think I'd be sad, as such, but I'd recognise it as a momentous, once in a lifetime occasion. (Until Charles dies too!)

Winterdaysarehere · 20/12/2019 22:26

Xmas TV would be more rubbish than usual...

TheFairyCaravan · 20/12/2019 22:26

A bit.

I'll be more interested in if DH and DS1, both armed forces, will have to do security/deputy for the funeral.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/12/2019 22:26

If i had to put my hand on the Holy Bible.
No not one iota.
No one can argue that she’s had her life and a bloody good prosperous one, too.

BeardedMum · 20/12/2019 22:28

No but I dread the outpouring of grief.

It would be the end of an amazing era in history.

She's currently the longest reigning monarch ever.

I will be very sad even though I don't believe in having a monarchy. I think her as a person is someone I admire for her seemingly unending commitment to duty.

JoyceJames · 20/12/2019 22:31

No. It's irrelevant to my life.

Microdot · 20/12/2019 22:31

I don't get paid for days off so that wouldn't be any good to me
