When will this odious individual just clear off

I thought he was supposed to be sorting out the middle east ?

He thinks we have forgotten his illegal war , selling our gold , creating millions of jobs and then giving them all away , his little twist on the Good Friday Agreement allowing immunity for IRA bombers, his millions of pounds and multiple homes , I could go on

I would love him to just Feck off and stay in oblivion !

unreasonable ?

During a period of economic boom, shouldn't we have been saving and paying back more of the deficit

There were at least two years (possibly three) where the economy under Blair ran a surplus. So not only did reduce the deficit, there was a surplus.

The global financial crisis was not the fault of Blair or Brown. It would have been far worse for the U.K. had the tories gotten their way with decreasing regulation yet further.

And Sutch, I think you might want to step put down the Ayn Rand and turn off the Hitchens speeches. I don’t believe any sane or decent person calls Thatcher too soft with a straight face.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/12/2019 22:20

Wasn't my post but I agree re seeing good in all previous PMs, including May.

I'm pretty centrist and have no allegiance to any party so I can look at most of them and see things they did well or positive traits. Same for the negatives.

Alsohuman · 18/12/2019 22:28

Does anyone know/remember what the deleted post by @ScreamingLadySutch said? I went out for a very nice dinner with a sane person and missed it. I’m assuming it was pretty insulting and I wish whoever reported it hadn’t, it’s always better when these things stand to condemn the poster.

AnyFucker · 18/12/2019 22:29

Thanks @MidnightCircus

Tanith · 18/12/2019 22:43

It's in the interests of certain people to shut Tony Blair up - and not for the good of the country or for Labour.

They demonise him because he's good and they're scared of what might happen if people get behind him.

BingoLittlesUncle · 18/12/2019 22:43

He's the only man that can make Labour a creditable political force as opposed to a pointless left-wing talking shop.

donquixotedelamancha · 18/12/2019 22:45

it’s always better when these things stand to condemn the poster.

In fairness, they still have ALL her OTHER posts to ENJOY. I think there is sufficient data :-)

PickAChew · 18/12/2019 22:48

I think he's got a point, tbh. I never liked him, even before he became leader but with him as front man Labour did actually get elected.

DoIhavetobejolly · 18/12/2019 22:57

On this occasion I think he is right, however I really cannot stand him.

I feel like everything he says is motivated by money and the attempt to get himself into the limelight as some sort of saviour of the people.

The irony is, he's at least partly responsible for Labours failure today, people lost faith in Labours ability to live up to their spending promises in part because of his actions.

AgeLikeWine · 18/12/2019 22:58

Until he lost his mind over Iraq, Blair was easily the best PM of my lifetime. Every single word of the speech he made today attacking Corbyn and his cronies was absolutely spot on.

The hard left will never forgive him for winning three elections while they lost, lost again and will always lose.

Happysummer2020 · 18/12/2019 23:56

He is right what he said about Corbyn though. Also, how else would you suggest he reach a treaty with the GFA? There needed to be compromises to get it over the line, however unpalatable they may have been. It resulted in a cease fire.

Alsohuman · 19/12/2019 00:26

Could you unpack that a bit because it makes no sense to me, he’s been out of power for 12 years. And his Labour delivered on their spending promises.

Pixxie7 · 19/12/2019 00:36

Glad you started this was thinking the same thing. He has had his day.

dreichXmas · 19/12/2019 00:39

The man may not be likable but it doesn't mean he is wrong.

He is right on this.

DoIhavetobejolly · 19/12/2019 02:46

@Alsohuman basically there were a lot of promises that this that and the other would be spent in the North, but it all seemed to fizzle out to nothing. I felt over the years that Labour became increasingly London centric.

While I didn't like Corbyn and I think he is largely responsible for Labour's decline, partly because his spending promises didn't seem credible, I do feel that a tiny part of that rests on Tony Blair because of his actions in the past. What I picked up from speaking to others around me was a sense of 'yeah, yeah, we've heard all that from you lot before'.

I know he's been out of power for 12 years, but people have long memories.

Alsohuman · 19/12/2019 08:20

OK, I get that @DoIhavetobejolly, being a southerner I hadn’t realised they broke promises to the north. I still don’t think Blair can be blamed for last week’s debacle though. Voters just don’t like Corbyn.

billysboy · 19/12/2019 09:06

Its very easy for him to be right after the event , benefit of hindsight and all that as it is for all of us as well

He will end up splitting the labour party

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 19/12/2019 09:14

I think Corbyn and Momentum will manage that all on their own if they try to install another leader in the same vein

Trewser · 19/12/2019 09:19

He will end up splitting the labour party

Good!

LaurieMarlow · 19/12/2019 09:20

Its very easy for him to be right after the event

Plenty of people were saying it at the time.

Blair’s not stupid, he was thinking it too. Obviously he couldn’t have said it then. Imagine how that would have impacted Corbyn’s campaign?

PurpleFlower1983 · 19/12/2019 09:20

He’s right though isn’t he.

Baguetteaboutit · 19/12/2019 09:22

He will end up splitting the labour party

Such luck. A Labour party without the off-putting momentum puppeteers would be a vote winning proposition.

EleanorTopaz · 19/12/2019 09:23

The film "Official Secrets" is an excellent reminder of how bad things were around the time of the Iraq War, and makes you wonder how the heck Teflon Tony got away with it.

Howlovely · 19/12/2019 09:32

I think it was Jonathan Pie who described Tony Blair as 'the turd that won't flush', which seemed quite a fitting description of him to me!
I've always found there's something slightly repugnant about him and his wife but I can't quite put my finger on it. They appear greedy to me.

otterturk · 19/12/2019 09:35

He won three elections. He introduced devolution, minimum wage, sure start... increases child benefit, number of nurses, teachers... nearly eradicated homelessness... cleanest beaches and rivers since industrial revolution...

Yeah just a Tory.
