I adore this.
Terry Wogan and Aled Jones singing Silver Bells.
So many versions of Silver Bells so it's well known. I just love this version. Don't judge me!

There's a lovely version by Hayley Westonra but I can't seem to link.

Discovered this one this year: The Fall - We Wish You A Protein Christmas.

It is GENIUS! Grin

A winters tale - David Essex.

It never seems to get as much airplay as the others but I love it. He was my teenage crush ❤️

50 grand for Christmas. It goes against my anti materialistic stance on Christmas but its intentions and so naff its great nature make it a must!

MrsMonkeyBear · 17/12/2019 09:55

I have loads of heavy metal covers of classic Christmas songs.

But my favourite original songs are

"I want an Alien for Christmas" Fountains of Wayne
"I won't be Home for Christmas" Blink 182
"This Time of Year" - Mighty Mighty Bosstones
"December is for Cynics" The Matches.

It may seem I very anti Christmas but I find it hard to get into the spirit due to being a chef and I have been cooking Turkey for a whole month.

PegHughes · 17/12/2019 09:58

I don't seem to ever hear and I love it.

I'd forgotten about that one. I used to adore David Essex.

Also (and I know they're not popular on MN) I like Coldplay's cover of 2000 Miles. Shock

LucyLocketss · 17/12/2019 10:12

Kate Bush 'December will be magic again'

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/12/2019 10:12

Thea Gilmore - 'That'll Be Christmas'.

Also, not really a song as such, as he speaks over the backing music, but Frank Kelly's 'Christmas Countdown'!

Saint Etienne, ‘I Was Born on Christmas Day’.

Less obscure, but I still really like ‘Don’t Let the Bells End’ by The Darkness. The whole battle for the Christmas Number One with Gary Jules has overshadowed it; plus The Darkness became unfashionable in the following years. But if you look back, it was a genuinely massive Christmas hit of the type you rarely get these days.

Also, you’ll think I’ve lost the plot, but Whigfield’s version of ‘Last Christmas’ is surprisingly good.

MintToBee · 17/12/2019 10:24

This!

December will be Magic Again by Kate Bush

I’m desperate to find the bongos version again. I have it on a Christmas CD that is buried somewhere under piles of junk Blush but have been unable to download it.
