AIBU to send my daughter as a colourful angel?

Nativity is on Tuesday and my daughter would like to wear a rainbow coloured floaty dress, blue wings, white cardigan and white tights.
Plus pipe cleaner halo headband.

Do I have to persuade her to wear a white sheet and try and make something?

Love the idea of a rainbow angel, go for it.

The concept of angels isn't natural to many, especially nowadays with religion so lowly regarded.. Why must angels always be white? A rainbow dress with white accessories would be a lovely change. Unless there has been a dress code issued can't see anything wrong.

*The rainbow is a sign from God that he’ll never flood the entire earth again.

A rainbow is an optical illusion caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets. The white light waves consists of rays of different colours that are dispersed at different angles through the water droplets.

Lack of scientific understanding led to various interpretations in order to try understand them.

It's a Nativity, not a Reith Lecture, why

I think that contriving a link from the Old Testament to the New to let a little kid wear something she likes is just fine.

It's not Broadway or the Science Museum.

whyamidoingthis · 17/12/2019 11:37

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria - I have no idea what a Reight lecture is but I assume it was meant to be patronising?

I read the point re the rainbow and God as a statement that the rainbow was a religious symbol, and therefore inappropriate as a symbol for LGBT. I disagree with that premise so gave a physical description of a rainbow. A natural phenomenon can be used as a symbol by anyone, not just religion.

It is obviously possible that I misunderstood the poster's intent and they meant it the way you read it. If so, I apologise to the that poster.

Very angle like😁

whyamidoingthis · 17/12/2019 12:41

Gaah. Angel, not angle.

I think it's fine to use up whatever costume you have and not make or buying something special. I hate schools being prescriptive about costumes. Who do they think they are, Gordon Shakespeare? Crown Grin

When DD2 was a King in the Nativity she wore DD1's angel dress, minus wings and with a home-made crown.

Look very cute, OP. Fairy outfit perfectly reasonable for a angel!

My first question when I was 5 and allocated the role of angel was "Can't I be a fairy instead?" Halo

BigFatLiar · 17/12/2019 12:50

They look fine. As long as they had a good time what it matter what she wore.

See you could have relaxed and saved yourself the worry. Just enjoy them while you can these times don't last.

A rainbow fairy costume would ruin the aesthetics of the whole thing

Oh noes, not the aesthetics! Because that’s what everyone goes to pre-school nativities-cum-carol-concerts for...the aesthetics.

Glad it all went well OP and your mildly colourful angel enjoyed herself.

BlackCatSleeping · 17/12/2019 18:26

I bet a lot of the angels will be in Elsa dresses or princess dresses.

bakingdiva · 17/12/2019 19:21

My dds pre-school nativity is basically them standing on stage singing Christmas songs. They have been asked to come as one of the characters from the nativity, but nursery have specifically said that no one should have to go out and buy a costume for it.

The parents have been asked what costumes their child will be in.....at last count there were 7 donkeys, 1 king (my dd), 5 shepherds and at least 2 Josephs Xmas Grin

I think it's safe to say, at this age parents aren't exactly expecting the RSC!!

BlackCatSleeping · 17/12/2019 19:59

Sorry, missed the photo. She looks utterly adorable!

My son (5yo) literally dresses as A dinosaur for every non-uniform, dress up or event day at school. He's only wearing a christmas jumper for the Christmas show because we got one with a dinosaur on lol otherwise there would be a christmas dinosaur
