AIBU to send my daughter as a colourful angel?

Nativity is on Tuesday and my daughter would like to wear a rainbow coloured floaty dress, blue wings, white cardigan and white tights.
Plus pipe cleaner halo headband.

Do I have to persuade her to wear a white sheet and try and make something?

@whyamidoingthis it’s offensive to people with religion to say ‘lgbt angel’. Rainbow angel fair enough. ‘LGBT angel’ is a big no

NabooThatsWho · 15/12/2019 18:42

it’s offensive to people with religion to say ‘lgbt angel’.

How the hell is it offensive?! 😂

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 15/12/2019 18:43

Confused lesbian "with religion" (is that like "with smallpox"?) here...? Confused

laudete · 15/12/2019 18:51

It's nursery school. Tbh, the most likely scenario is a few children will have accidents and end up wearing spare clothes regardless of whatever costumes were sent in. That may or may not include your own child. I wouldn't stress over the costume; your photo and description are fine, based on the minimal parameters issued. Enjoy the Nativity show!

@Hulagirla - it’s offensive to people with religion to say ‘lgbt angel’. Rainbow angel fair enough. ‘LGBT angel’ is a big no

Why? Do you object to angels having any sexuality or is it just LGBT? Is it acceptable to have a heterosexual angel?

I seem to recall God claimed man was made in his likeness. If so, LGBT is just another part of his likeness and many faceted being.

Thank you all
Merry Christmas 🎄

Well of course she's going to be the odd one out.

OhChristmasTreee · 15/12/2019 19:39

Ah, these “alternative” parents who like to pretend that their kids are just as “alternative” as they are

whatiswrongwithmee · 15/12/2019 19:51

Well this escalated

Hulagirla · 15/12/2019 19:53

Angels are NOT LGBT. No holy book says that being gay is ok.

Hulagirla · 15/12/2019 19:55

I’m not saying it’s not ok to be gay. I’m saying it’s offensive to say ‘lgbt angel’ when it goes against the things those religions believe. Have a bit of respect for people’s beliefs

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 15/12/2019 19:55

Well they aren't human, which does make it hard to have human relationships.

Oh and they're not real.

Happysummer2020 · 15/12/2019 19:55

Surley that tells you what a load of nonsense these 'holy books' are then doesn't it? Do you ever apply critical thinking?

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 15/12/2019 19:58

I'd possibly agree more that if you're gonna say it's offensive it's in the other direction - as in so many gay people have been killed because of religion that it is offensive to them to link them with a religious symbol.

But I'm not gonna feel bad for the poor oppressed mainstream religions.

OP, I'm sorry your thread had been hijacked by such batshittery.

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 15/12/2019 20:00

All angels are male in holy books, therefore either assexual (included under the wider lgb banner), gay (with each other), or they have interspecies relationships.......

Tough choice.

Momomomohammed · 15/12/2019 20:01

Surley that tells you what a load of nonsense these 'holy books' are then doesn't it? Do you ever apply critical thinking?
Who do you think you are? It’s not right to link a religious being with something that goes wholly against religion. I don’t care what your religion is or if you even have one but don’t be rude about something that you don’t understand

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 15/12/2019 20:04

My religion believes in gay rainbow fairies. Prove it doesn't.

Momomomohammed · 15/12/2019 20:07

@BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF
Maybe it does but it doesn’t believe in Isa/Jesus and the nativity is about his birth so the gay angels are inappropriate

Silvercatowner · 15/12/2019 20:07

No holy book says that being gay is ok

The bible says a lot of weird shit.

Streamingbannersofdawn · 15/12/2019 20:10

It's pre school...let her wear what she wants. I am doing a pre school nativity tomorrow and the children are told to come as their favourite character. I get a lot of shepherds in tea towels...last year I had a skeleton...we just go with it.

Anyone attempting to script and direct a group of children under five has overloaded themselves in my opinion.

PhoenixReincarnated · 15/12/2019 20:29

A rainbow angel sounds lovely 😇🌈

whyamidoingthis · 15/12/2019 20:33

@Hulagirla - Angels are NOT LGBT. No holy book says that being gay is ok.

How do you know? I'm pretty sure no holy book says they're heterosexual either. As far as I'm aware they are all pretty silent on the subject of angel sexuality.

Wrt the holy books position on sexuality, those holy books are generally pretty crap in their attitude towards women but most people accept that they were a product of their time and we are more evolved now and we recognise women as being equal to men. Surely we can say the same about sexuality?

Re holy books, I'm fairly sure none of them specify that the angels danced around newly-pregnant Mary to the tune of Tchikovskys "dance of the sugar plum fairy" either.

No but at least there’s not specific bible passages condemning it.
