As it says in the title
DH refusing to have my grandparents for xmas dinner, says he cant stand to have xmas dinner with them as they shared with us yesterday that they voted tory , we are both very left wing and have always voted labour
Not only does he not want to have xmas dinner with them he doesn't want to socialise at all with them.
What can I do ? Grandfather is very political so this topic will be brought up
Dh says he cant stand the selfish old bastards and doesn't want to know them

Regardless of how they voted, they sound intolerable.

LookingforLemons · 15/12/2019 13:55

The point has whooshed over your head, @SarahNade.

It isn’t that people can’t have right wing relatives. It’s that the OP started off by saying it was because they were Tories and then chucked in a load of other stuff to get the frothers frothing. But don’t let that stop you from abusing the Hmm face!

WeshMaGueule · 15/12/2019 13:56

Mumsnet: You can leave a relationship for any reason you like!

Also Mumsnet: You won't entertain fascists in your house, you're terrible people!

CantspellWontspell · 15/12/2019 13:58

People are entitled to their opinions however they are not entitled to demand others think well of them and/or want them around.

Your GP'S sound like boorish pricks and it would be completely reasonable for you to not want that type of energy at a celebratory dinner. I dont believe that you obligated to them just because they are family and old. If they can't make themselves reasonable company then they can have dinner alone.

@LookingforLemons Yes, most posters do add more information later as they are asked for clarity. Not sure how that is so out of the ordinary?

AllideasAndNoAction · 15/12/2019 14:02

Well I hope when these independently wealthy GPS who’ve never really needed to work croak it, you and your parents will be donating all of your inheritance to charities benefitting the disadvantaged? I mean to do anything less would be hypocritical, wouldn’t it?

lljkk · 15/12/2019 14:04

Is there a realistic chance if you keep inviting them that they will lead you a bucket of money? I'm trying to find the silver lining.

lljkk · 15/12/2019 14:04

*leave...

SarahNade · 15/12/2019 14:05

@LookingforLemons I think you're being naive to think the GPs are not racist, just because the OP didn't happen to mention every thing in their OP.

rattusrattus20 · 15/12/2019 14:13

almost all grandparents are Tory. this amounts to saying 'won't have grandparents over', which is obviously ridiculous.

Can your husband not accept that people have different views to him.It seems like such a fundamental aspect of anyone's life, can he not work with people of different views. Why would anyone want to discuss politics at Christmas anyway.

transformandriseup · 15/12/2019 14:17

I would invite them over but make it clear that no will be talking politics today

Justgorgeous · 15/12/2019 14:18

Maybe he hates you both as you voted Labour ! Hopefully he’s not as mean to be like that though.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 15/12/2019 14:21

Your grandparents and your DH all sound intolerant and vile.

Poor you.

LookingforLemons · 15/12/2019 14:24

lol, ok @SarahNade 😂😂

SarahNade · 15/12/2019 14:27

Yeah, @LookingforLemons It's unbelievable that she didn't post every single thing in her OP and make it a mini novel, to cover all bases for naive goady people like yourself. 😂😂 Convenient excuse for you as it is.

LookingforLemons · 15/12/2019 14:28

But of course an OP who refers to Tory voters as “sad bastards who won’t vote labour” couldn’t possibly be responding naturally and in the normal way after not putting what you’d consider to be the more important details than how people voted in her OP..... come on!

I’m no BoJo fan, but posts like this really aren’t going to help heal some of society’s divisions, are they?

Glad to see your other goady post was removed.

Lizzie0869 · 15/12/2019 14:32

@cakeisalwaystheanswer your post was deleted because troll hunting is against the Talk Guidelines, not because no one agreed with you. If you think the OP is a troll, you're supposed to report the thread to MNHQ.

HTH

LookingforLemons · 15/12/2019 14:34

Yes and if yours stays up, after making a personal attack like that, it’ll be a shame. Try having an adult debate without insults, you’ll get further 😘😘

AuntSpiker · 15/12/2019 14:36

Perhaps the OP is still in a bad mood because her husband only buys her supermarket flowers and not from a florist. That thread is really quite illuminating

LovePoppy · 15/12/2019 14:37

The irony that you posted that was directly after name calling and insulting is lost on nobody except you

Ah, I get it. Another bitter Corbynista, are you? Reported.
