Inspired by another thread where I was looking at all the different dishes people have.

I tend to do
Turkey and a ham
Roast potatoes and mashed potatoes
Red cabbage
Carrots (roasted)
Parsnips
Yorkshire puddings (yes I know!!)
Sprouts (bacon is usually involved).
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets

We have:

Roast turkey crown
Homemade sausage meat stuffing
Pigs and blankets
Sprouts doused in bacon and butter
Roast potatoes
Homemade Yorkshire puds
Honey glazed carrots
Honey glazed parsnips
Gravy

Christmas pudding with cream when we eventually feel like it.

I used to have mash, spinach, peas and all sorts when I was growing up but there's always way too much food. Nothing gets wasted and I always make up loads of bubble and squeak patties/have just enough for turkey sandwiches after.

Littlemissdaredevil · 15/12/2019 09:49

Turkey crown and a ham
Roast potatoes
Red cabbage - sometimes
Carrots
Parsnips
Broccoli
Cauliflower Cheese
Sprouts
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Gravy

Sponge Christmas cake for dessert and normally banoffie pie. No one apart from me likes Christmas Cake (fruitcake) or Christmas pudding!

Fried cassava
Smoked dhal

heroineinahalfshell · 15/12/2019 09:58

Starter - baked figs on a slice of toasted ciabatta with cream cheese and walnuts

Main -
Turkey
Ham
Veggie quiche (MIL & SIL are both veggies - i experimented with mushroom wellingtons last year which they liked, but then there were no leftovers for boxing day).
Roast potatoes
Yorkshire pud (bought, plus GF ones for FIL)
Parsnips, carrots, brussels sprouts, red cabbage
Gravy and cranberry sauce

Pudding - christmas pudding. I'm not a huge fan but there'd be a mutiny if we didn't have it.

I should add that there are only 5 of us (3 meat eaters and 2 veggies), so it's quite a feast and there are leftovers for days!

thatguiltyfeeling · 15/12/2019 10:00

First year doing it and we are really poor so we're doing:
Three bird roast
Parsnips
Stuffing from a packet
Carrot and swede mash
Cauliflower cheese
Roast potatoes
Brussel sprouts
Broccoli
Peas
Yorkshire puddings

Majority of that we have in the cupboards so I'm just buying the mash, sprouts, and meat. We'll also be getting a Yule log for pudding.
Some of these meals sound delicious but also like an awful lot of effort!!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/12/2019 10:30

HoHoHoik · 15/12/2019 10:34

I do as much as I can the day before. I prepare the turkey and wrap it up in foil on the roasting tin then into the fridge so it can be out straight into the oven. I make the yorkshire puddings and then freeze them still in the tin so they only need 5mins in the oven next day to defrost and crisp back up. I chop the vegetables the night before and store in water on the hob or in a bag in the freezer.

mamaduckbone · 15/12/2019 10:38

Fresh fruit
Loadsa seafood on the Barbie.
Beach...

BringPizza · 15/12/2019 11:16

Going to MILs so it will be a massively oversized and dried out turkey with boiled up veg and 'all the trimmings' cooked 'well done'. We normally take wine, a roast joint (beef this year) and a pud to help out.

AllideasAndNoAction · 15/12/2019 11:28

The non-negotiables are:

Turkey
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing
Sprouts (sometimes with bacon and/or chestnuts)
Carrots
Roast parsnips
Roast potatoes
Gravy
Cranberry sauce.

I will also usually serve another veg. It might be petit pois, it might be mashed swede, it might be braised red cabbage.

Yorkshire puddings are for beef and have no place on a Christmas turkey dinner.

Nobody needs mash and roast potatoes.

Jumpi · 15/12/2019 11:42

Not only is it my first time cooking but we have guests who not only don’t eat meat but won’t have it near them. They eat fish and cheese though.

So I’m doing:

  • Salmon with herby crust
  • Stuffing log made with mushrooms, chestnuts and cranberries
  • roast potatoes but don’t know how to make these interesting without fat
  • Cauliflower cheese
  • roasted parsnips
  • sprouts
  • carrot and suede mash
  • gravy made with wine, chestnuts, cranberries and veg stock

Does this sound really boring?

Jumpi · 15/12/2019 11:42
