Inspired by another thread where I was looking at all the different dishes people have.

I tend to do
Turkey and a ham
Roast potatoes and mashed potatoes
Red cabbage
Carrots (roasted)
Parsnips
Yorkshire puddings (yes I know!!)
Sprouts (bacon is usually involved).
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets

Aibu to ask what’s on your menu

Since when are Yorkshires controversial

BenevolentEzza · 14/12/2019 22:52

All the trimmings without the turkey (we're having beef and gammon)

Help me though please! I need a foolproof, easy to make/heat up delicious h/m gravy recipe or shop bought gravy recommendation that doesn't use meat juices (if h/m recipe) but if shop bought can contain still meat products (but no red wine in it...)

Sorry it's so specific - is there a lazy bit delicious pouch or packet mix that is yummy and fits the brief?

Readthisearlier · 14/12/2019 22:53

Some strange people believe that Yorkshires should only be eaten with beef.

Yorkshires can and should be eaten with absolutely anything Grin

SilverySurfer · 14/12/2019 22:57

A turkey would be ridiculous as there's only me so I'm having:

A bottle of champagne
A free range capon chicken
Yorkshire pudding
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Home made pigs in blankets
Home made stuffing
Cranberry sauce
Sprouts
carrots
red cabbage
Peas
Gravy
Home made profiteroles filled with Amaretto cream and raspberry and dipped in caramel
Cheese and port

I then collapse like a beached whale and watch TV

Boxing Day

Cold chicken and ham
salads
Bubble and Squeak

MrsBungle · 14/12/2019 22:59

Natsku · 14/12/2019 23:02

Beetroot salad is only supposed to be once!

Jinglebellissimo · 14/12/2019 23:02

1st Christmas dinner (Christmas Eve)
Schnitzel and potato salad

Prawn salad or similar as a starter

Slow roasted goose (sometimes duck)
Roasties
Roasted carrots
Roasted parsnips
Fried brussel sprouts
Red cabbage
Baby broccoli
Cranberry sauce
Gravy
Pigs in blankets

Mini homemade christmas cookies for munching. We are not big on sweet so we don't usually do full on dessert.

Cheeseboard in the evening with fruit, nuts, crackers. I make awesome cheeseboardsGrin

Natsku · 14/12/2019 23:03

@Jinglebellissimo Yup, Finnish. First time cooking it all myself this year as we usually go to FIL's, hopefully I'll get it all right.

AllergicToAMop · 14/12/2019 23:03

Forgot yorkshires!

justcly · 14/12/2019 23:05

No starters, because ffs how much food do people need. I have two vegans and eight omnivores.

Turkey (or mushroom pithivier)
Sprouts
Carrots
Parsnips
Roast potatoes
Cranberry sauce
Stuffing (vegan)
Pigs in blankets
Some weird vegan prune thing that is supposed to make up for not being able to have pigs in blankets
Gravy (two kinds, vegan and non-vegan)

Christmas pud and custard or
Vegan chocolate log with coconut cream.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 14/12/2019 23:05

@Jinglebellissimo that's the christmas spirit Xmas Smile

FiveNightsAtMummys · 14/12/2019 23:05

Gammon
Turkey
Roast potatoes
Mash potatoes
Pigs in blankets
Sausage meat stuffing
Carrots
Peas
Sweetcorn
Sprouts
Roast parsnips
Yorkshire puddings
Gravy
I also have branston pickle and red cabbage on mine.

I CANNOT WAIT

Babybel90 · 14/12/2019 23:06

First we have blinis with smoked salmon and cream cheese + cava

Then for the main:
Turkey
Sprouts (only for me though)
Roast potatoes
Carrots
Parsnips
Pigs in blankets
Homemade stuffing (Paxo is banned for ahem... reasons I won’t go into)
Gravy
Cranberry sauce
Bread sauce
Red wine

I used to make it all from scratch but it’s just as nice and much easier to buy it all preprepared from M&S

HerRoyalFattyness · 14/12/2019 23:09

Turkey
Pigs in blankets
Sprouts
Carrots and neeps
Cauliflower (just Cauliflower, not Cauliflower cheese...)
Mashed potatoes
Roast potatoes
Stuffing
Gravy

Then pudding... I've been eyeing up a melt in the middle one from Iceland...

MangoStone · 14/12/2019 23:12

Turkey
Stuffing
Roast pots, carrots and parsnips
Yorkshires
Sprouts
Broccoli
Mashed swede
Pigs but no blankets
Bread sauce
Gravy

DH does the roast and I do the pudding which will most likely be a chocolate log. I am making cranberry liqueur for one of DH's presents this year so no doubt we'll have a kir royale type of thing beforehand and then some wine.

Jinglebellissimo · 14/12/2019 23:16

@Babybel90 last year I bought literally everything out of m&s... truth is - it wasn’t good. Carrots oddly sweet, potatoes not crispy enough, sprouts were inedible.

Honestly I do usually get ore-done red cabbage and am not adverse to aunt Bessies parsnips either - but last years m&s lot was dreadful and was so disappointed

SenecaFalls · 14/12/2019 23:16

I'm in the US and most people don't do turkey for Christmas dinner because we have just had it for Thanksgiving. We are still working on it, but it's probably going to be:
chilled boiled shrimp with cocktail sauce
honey baked ham
rice and gravy
corn pudding
roasted asparagus
green salad with vinaigrette dressing
biscuits (southern style American ones made with lard, the only time of year that I use lard)
Fig jam for the biscuits
Coconut cake
Key lime pie

neversleepagain · 14/12/2019 23:16

We have beef or a good quality corn fed chicken.
Roast potatoes
Brussel sprouts
Honey roasted carrots and parsnips
Peas (dc love them with any roast)
Pigs in blankets
Yorkshire puddings
Gravy

UserPop · 14/12/2019 23:27

When I cook Christmas dinner I do
Turkey (always cooked with bacon on top)
Pigs in blankets
Roasties
Mash
Broccoli
Carrots
Cabbage
Parsnips
Stuffings
And of course, gravy and yorkshire puddings!

I think we're having cheesecake for dessert this year.

Calic0 · 14/12/2019 23:28

Our Christmas dinner is a bit off-piste! This year:
Confit duck legs
Duck leg and black pudding bonbons
Mashed potato
Braised red cabbage
Brussels baked in mustard cream

We always have duck legs and mash but the sides vary a bit year in year. Just the two of us so we can please ourselves and it’s become a bit of a tradition.
