Inspired by another thread where I was looking at all the different dishes people have.

I tend to do
Turkey and a ham
Roast potatoes and mashed potatoes
Red cabbage
Carrots (roasted)
Parsnips
Yorkshire puddings (yes I know!!)
Sprouts (bacon is usually involved).
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets

6 people here.
No ‘sit down’ starter, just some nibbles like ‘posh’ crisps/cheese straws with Champagne an hour or so before dinner.
Roast turkey and gammon.
Roast potatoes and parsnips.
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing (I do a dish of American style type)
Sprouts
Carrots
Gravy

That’s it.

Pudding is always some time later.

JurassicShay · 15/12/2019 08:12

I like getting the Indian or Chinese starters from Iceland to nibble on as a starter. Samosa’s and things like that. Usually we have roast lamb and chicken as our DD only likes white meat. Roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, roasted root vegetables including parsnips, mange tout, sweet corn for our DD, gravy and small sausages. We have chocolate log or a character cake from M&S for pudding.

cultmaskid · 15/12/2019 08:31

To those saying no to starters because "it's already a lot" and "how much food do you need".
Starter works the way that you have a starter and then you have smaller mainGrin
It's about variety not a quantity.

I love starting with something very light like prawns and mixed leaves with dressing or a nice broth. It gives stomach a heads up about what's comingGrin

XmasRibbons · 15/12/2019 08:57

Usually have croissants or bacon baps for breakfast and then the painstaking cooking begins soon after.

Mashed Swede
Carrots
Brussels sprouts
Cabbage
Parsnips
Cauliflower cheese
Sausage stuffing & maybe standard
Pigs in blankets
Yorkshire Puddings
Gravy
Cranberry sauce

bohemia14 · 15/12/2019 08:57

Just 2 of us so just a slightly fancier roast dinner

Turkey crown
Gravy
Roast potatoes - might even just use Aunt Bessies
Mash because I love it - maybe M&S

Leeks and peas cooked in butter and white wine
Carrots - just for the colour on the plate!
Cocktail sausages

I'll also cook a ham as Irish tradition but probably save for Boxing Day

Xmas pudding and cream

catlady3 · 15/12/2019 09:03

There's only two of us so I make a massive beef Wellington and some gravy. Have that on Christmas day (with maybe a starter of smoked salmon or pate on brioche) and put it in a sandwich on boxing day! It's amazing 😊

PTW1234 · 15/12/2019 09:06

Turkey crown (covered in bacon)
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing balls
Parsnips
Roast carrots

My DD is doing:
Beef and lamb with accompanying gravy and sauces.
Carrot & swede mashed.
Peas.
Sprouts,
Broccoli, cauli.
Parsnips,
Roast potatoes,
Yorkshire puddings,
Pigs in blankets,

She has heated servers so we plate up ourselves and return. That way if you don't want mint to touch your beef etc, it doesn't have to.

She's picking a cake for me and my youngest DD to make and we are taking a yule log.

She'll ask people want they want buying in, but that's enough for me, so I don't know if she's getting a cheese board etc.
