To think it’s utterly disgraceful that Corbyn hasn’t resigned

The man is the reason the Labour Party didn’t stand a chance in the GE

Yet today he doesn’t even have the good grace or integrity to step aside

Is their anyone at all who supports him in that decision?

bakingdemon made this point hours ago, but it seems to have been overlooked - if Corbyn resigns immediately, who will be acting leader until a successor is elected? It would normally be the deputy leader, but Labour doesn't have a deputy leader, because Watson resigned.

When Milibeand resigned, Harman became interim leader because she had been his deputy.

People suggesting a caretaker leader could be 'appointed' - really? You think the fractured parliamentary party is going to harmoniously agree on a caretaker such as, ooh, I don't know, the shadow chancellor or shadow home secretary, or perhaps a random backbencher?

In the circumstances, surely Corbyn has to remain till the new leader is elected. Though I agree the election process should start soon, not be deferred for months.

LucaFritz · 14/12/2019 01:46

Even his own party has 0 faith in him i was shocked when watching the results that one MP said of all the door to door canvassing he did something like 11,000 he spoke to said they wouldn't vote for him because of Corbyn not because they didn't agree with his manifesto or policies! So just how much damage Corbyn has done to the Labour party is unknown but i bet a lot more than 11,000 share those views

CharlottesPleb · 14/12/2019 01:58

Corbyn is nothing more than a momentum sock puppet and while they are in charge it makes no difference whose face they wear.

Completely seriously, almost any low level New Labour politician from the 90s, arseholes though they were, could have walked this election and ended up with a majority. They would had to shut up when appropriate and apply basic arithmetic when deciding what to promise, but is that so hard?

user1473878824 · 14/12/2019 02:26

I’m, mainly, a Tory voter. Corbyn has been nothing but detrimental to both parties. He has created a cult that has nothing to do with Labour. You need a strong opposition or whoever is in power gets to do whatever the fuck they want, election or not. He has had no policies, PMQs were a joke. The antisemitism he refused to apologise for at any point. Aaaaargh! I’m angry despite “winning” because labour lost this because of Corbyn.

Rosspoldarkssaddle · 14/12/2019 02:48

For me, it was Emily and diane that turned me off labour, and all that fence sitting. I seriously wondered whether the tail was wagging the dog throughout the last 4 years.

There is a process. The man will go when his replacement is found. If they are to have any chance in the future, this person must rearrange that bench asap.

NachoFries · 14/12/2019 03:52

I am confused by the whole voting system.

So Tories have 365 seats and Labour have only 203 and Lib Dems only have 11.

However, Tories got 13,966,565 Whereas Labour got 10,295,607. Over 10 million voters is a lot and there’s 3,670,958 between Tories and Labour do how do Tories have 43.6% and Labour has 32.2 share of the votes?

Oh and Lib Dems have 11.6% share of the votes with just 3,696,423? How does it all work?

Clearly over 10 million voted Labour so regardless of Corbyn’s flaws, there were a lot of people who still voted Labour. And if those who had voted Lib Dems had actually voted Labour then Labour would have won the General Election. But that can’t be right can it? Because Lib Dems only have 11 seats and Labour have 203 so that would still be less than 365. So I’m confused by the whole thing.

slipperywhensparticus · 14/12/2019 04:15

Our voting system is strange really

but I dont think jeremy should flounce i think they should find and elect another leader and move on

TheBlueStocking · 14/12/2019 05:45

@LucaFritzw

It's absolutely unfeasible that someone was told 11,000 times that they weren't voting because of Corbyn. Simple maths and logistics should make that obvious.

Say half the people whose doors he knocked on answered, which is unlikely, and then fifty percent of those said they wanted Labour, but not Corbyn, which is unlikely? How many doors did he knock on to get that much data?

TheBlueStocking · 14/12/2019 05:47

It's rubbish like that going around that makes it perfectly obvious we are mired in fake news.

Not111 · 14/12/2019 05:56

The amount of abuse he’s endured with such amazing good grace and never resorted to insults back.

You’re all fucking nut jobs

This made me howl 😂

His ‘amazing good grace’ seemingly doesn’t rub off on his supporters.

TheBlueStocking · 14/12/2019 07:01

Let's hope Boris' fridge dwelling, adulterous, mendacity doesn't rub off onto his supporters.

Trewser · 14/12/2019 07:07

Janice Turner has a fantastic article in the Times today. Absolutely spot on.

Trewser · 14/12/2019 07:09

Ian levy the new Tory mp for Blyth valley is a nhs worker in mental health. Hardly a man who I would say lacked morals and honesty. He won the seat after campaigning on local issues on mainly rail and roads to the valley

He looked like a top bloke and I'm looking forward to seeing him in parliament.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 14/12/2019 07:28

I voted conservatives but I’m not happy with at least two of their major policies.

I want a good, strong opposition to keep them on the straight and narrow, but instead it seems the loser Corbyn is still hanging on.

The Game of Blame has begun and it seems Momentum think it’s everybody but them.

Bluntness100 · 14/12/2019 07:33

Nacho, it is done on seats, covering geographic areas, because MPs then cover that constituinency, the total percentages stack up differently because of how many people live in those constinuencies.

NonnoMum · 14/12/2019 08:05

Mr Levy does not appear on any part of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.

Read the nursing times. Once again, voters have been duped.

Trewser · 14/12/2019 08:12

He's worked for years in a caring role. I'm sure he's done lots of actual nursing.

Jillyhilly · 14/12/2019 08:44

The Game of Blame has begun and it seems Momentum think it’s everybody but them.

I guess if you’re 100% attached to your ideas and people reject those ideas,
then the only explanation is that there’s something wrong with the people.

This will take years, won’t it. A complete mind shift is needed - a genuine curiosity about why this has happened and why so many people want Brexit. Genuine empathy and not assuming that white working class people are ignorant racist “gammon”.

That’s a long old journey. Boris will probably be in until 2029 or thereabouts!

CakeandCustard28 · 14/12/2019 08:45

Not really going to do any harm staying for a week or two. It’s not like they’re going to declare another general election tomorrow.

Cloudyyy · 14/12/2019 08:59

He doesn’t ever seem to reflect on how damaging he is to the Labour Party. He is a very deviscive character and he, along with the Momentum militants and the London luvvies, have completely forgotten about the Labour Heartlands. They live in a little, radically left echo-chamber and are vitriolic to anyone who thinks differently to them. Corbyn himself is unrelentingly pious, sure of himself and out of it touch with traditional Labour voters around the country. A lot of people felt they couldn’t vote for an anti-Semitic far-left militant. He needs to step down and walk away. Watching QT last night, Stephen Kinnock did a fantastic job (on a VERY difficult day) of apologising for the ridiculous state of Labour and instilling some new energy in them regrouping and emerging as a strong political force again. That’s what we need now, Jeremy Corbyn needs to retreat.

TheBlueStocking · 14/12/2019 09:15

My local areas voted Labour, several of them in the surrounding counties. We're nowhere near London.

Ten million people voted for change. You can't isolate the dissatisfaction to London luvvies, as you so sneeringly put it.

Trewser · 14/12/2019 09:19

I don't know anything about Stephen Kinnock (apart from his parents) but last night he was saying all the right things. Particularly about patriotism. He would make a good leader, no?

Cloudyyy · 14/12/2019 09:23

@TheBlueStocking Perhaps where you are but anyone looking at these results can see for themselves that that is not the picture around the country. This election has been an undeniable catastrophe for Labour. We need to be opening our eyes and heart, listening to what people are saying and stop insisting that everyone who didn’t vote for Corbyn is wrong. The is the worst result for Labour since 1935. He needs to go.

TheBlueStocking · 14/12/2019 09:27

Sure, and that's what he's said he'll do, even though it's a tragedy. But there's absolutely no point in him stepping down without an appropriate replacement.

Cloudyyy · 14/12/2019 09:29

@Trewser Yes he has a lot of support from the Welsh steel workers he has helped for years. He is also brilliant public speaker and comes across as a sincere and intelligent man. He was one of the rebels who voted for Johnson’s Brexit deal so I don’t know if he would be put forward by his colleagues for leader, although I’m a fan of his personally.
