I think it is.

A United Ireland is NOT inevitable. The people of Ireland have no interest in taking on NI. And the people of NI will backtrack quickly when they see the price of their groceries, tax and loss of their NHS.

Er, didn't you see the Exit polls?

It's bye-bye NHS. It will be sold to Trump in a trade deal.

EL8888 · 12/12/2019 23:41

I think both will be the aim. Scotland will be easier. Ireland will be a hell of a lot harder 😔

BearFoxBear · 12/12/2019 23:44

Shocker, another uneducated comment about Scotland costing England money. Biscuit You win little Englander bingo.

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 12/12/2019 23:44

"Looks like Boris' position will be so strong that he won't have to do anything he doesn't want to do - and he won't give wee jimmy Krankiee look-likey another referendum any time soon, then again, Scotland do cost us Londoners a lot...maybe he'll have a referendum in England to see if we want Scotland."

Yawn.

Gingerkittykat · 12/12/2019 23:44

I really hope so. Boris is the best thing that ever happened to the independence movement.

HollaHolla · 12/12/2019 23:46

I suspect it’s almost inevitable now. I was a no go independence, and remain in the EU. I feel that the Westminster government represents me, my friends, family, and interests, less and less.
If there was a guarantee of an independent Scotland in the EU, I don’t think I’d hesitate to support it.

NI, fancy joining us in a super-celt state? (Trying to lighten the gloom...)

EL8888 · 12/12/2019 23:47

@KenDodd FFS really?! Quite indicative and very inappropriate

HollaHolla · 12/12/2019 23:47

In Scotland, this feels like the 80s under Thatcherism. I was born in the mid-70s, and remember that my parents seemed to feel the sort of despair we have now.

The north/south divide was so marked. Industry, manufacturing, etc, all stripped out of Scotland. It made a whole generation bitter and went a long way towards the poor Scotland/England relationship, from my view.

PlomBear · 12/12/2019 23:49

Is there much of a Welsh independence movement? Cornwall might as well go independent too!

MrsFoxPlus4Again · 12/12/2019 23:50

@HollaHolla my papa feels the same, he thinks it’ll be exactly like thatcher.

Phlewf · 12/12/2019 23:53

I definitely can think make it a UK wide vote on independence for Scotland. I think it would be quite telling.

HollaHolla · 12/12/2019 23:54

@MrsFoxPlus4Again I really hope against hope that we’re very very wrong.

Right about now, the volatile volcano/earthquakes/landslips of the ‘Scotland of the South’ is looking more and more attractive.

Celebelly · 12/12/2019 23:55

Hope so.
I was a yes last time.
I'm a hell yes now.

IWorkAtTheCheesecakeFactory · 12/12/2019 23:56

NI, fancy joining us in a super-celt state? (Trying to lighten the gloom...)

Yes! Grin

Ciwirocks · 12/12/2019 23:57

Can the north West break off as well? 😩

Mishfit0819 · 12/12/2019 23:58

@Toomuchtrouble4me firstly, cut the sexist crap. It doesn't matter what politicians look like, which BoJo demonstrates on a daily basis (Well when the BBC don't edit him that is). Secondly, we don't cost you anything. Any research further than the sun/daily express etc would clearly show you this. Why else are they hanging onto us? Thirdly, I'd love for England to vote to be independent /break up the unions. I'm sure most of Scotland, Wales & NI would be too right now.

DippyAvocado · 12/12/2019 23:59

With the whole of Scotland almost entirely represented by the SNP, that's a clear mandate for another referendum. Leaves those of us stuck in England subject to a Tory government pretty much forever.....

HollaHolla · 13/12/2019 00:00

@Ciwirocks - all sensible, like minded folks welcome. My idyllic super-state will be welcoming to all, and we’ll even accept rehabilitated Tories. 🤣

WatchingTheMoon · 13/12/2019 00:01

If the SNP result is good, it will be nigh on impossible to deny a second referendum.

I'm all for it. Scotland and England are just too far apart politically.

CountFosco · 13/12/2019 00:01

he won't give wee jimmy Krankiee look-likey another referendum any time soon

Sure you couldn't throw about some more personal insults?

How could he possibly refuse a democratically elected party that have dominated Scottish politics for years what they want? I am no fan of Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP but it is clear that they have a mandate for another IndyRef. Exit poll is predicting even Orkney and Shetland are going to SNP, that has been Liberal since 1950.

jellycatspyjamas · 13/12/2019 00:01

I think it’s inevitable that Scotland will be independent now, I’ve never been in favour but if the exit polls are correct I can’t see how the union can survive such a fundamental ideological split between Scotland and the rest of the uk.

needsomehelptoday · 13/12/2019 00:03

Sadly I think the union is over now. NI will be in a precarious position too.
I voted no to scottish independence and am a remainer. I am a Lib Dem voter, although I have issues with some of their policies.

I really wouldn't blame people for voting for scottish independence if another referendum is called.

Worried about the future.

RasberryRoyale · 13/12/2019 00:07

Boris has already said he won’t allow another independence referendum. A Tory Government is terrifying but what’s worse? An independent Scotland under the SNP.

AlohaMolly · 13/12/2019 00:08

@PlomBear I live in North Wales and there’s been an increasing push on the idea of an independent wales sentiment, from what I’ve seen. Someone better informed will probably come along in a minute to put me right, but I vaguely recall something about working to keep wales in the EU in Plaid Cymru’s manifesto??
