If so, how long do you think you will last before your eyelids droop and you nod off?

I reckon I can last until about 3ish.

I'll watch the exit poll and stay up if it isn't too depressing a prediction...

BaolFan · 12/12/2019 21:29

Just had dinner and currently finishing second glass of wine. Will switch to coffee next - otherwise the wine will have me asleep by 22:30! I've got kettle chips and ice cream to see me through for snacks.

Clock watching for 22:00 because I want to know what the exit poll says...

Summergarden · 12/12/2019 21:29

Yes I always end up watching until about 1.00pm to get an idea of which way it will go. Plus it’s kind of fun watching to see whether Newcastle South or wherever it is can race to get their results in first as they are renowned for doing!

This is the first election in ages that I’ve not had a baby that wakes in the night, as then I’d always sleepily check on my phone during feeds.

I’m a person who hates surprises at the best of times and finds change hard to deal with a lot of the time, so I find the whole run up to elections a bit stressful and Election Day/night is the peak of it. Once I know the results and can digest it whichever way I’ll feel better. Especially as I found it really difficult to decide who to vote for this year.

Summergarden · 12/12/2019 21:30

Oops, meant 1.00am!

ilovetinsel · 12/12/2019 21:33

Yes I'll have R4 on all night & will fall in and out of a hopeful sleep. Like every election... 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹😴😴😴

I’m also getting major food and drink envy reading the replies on this thread.

Rhubarb and ginger gin....pizza and bacon sarnies.... will have to see what I can find in the cupboard and if it comes to the worst I maybe could open the tub of Roses Christmas chocs 😉

Some trivia on bellwether seats (taken from the i) -

Since 1997:
Nuneaton

Since 1983:
Amber Valley
Corby
Norwich North
Reading West

Since 1979:
Worcester

Since February 1974:
Loughborough
Northampton North
Watford

Since 1964:
Dartford

For the last 55 years, whichever party has claimed the seat of Dartford, in Kent, has also gone on to form a government. This year Conservative candidate Gareth Johnson is seeking to defend a majority of 13,186

TeacupDrama · 12/12/2019 21:35

the really early declarations are pretty safe seats so unless a major upset don't really give much of an indication, also quick results depends on getting all ballot boxes to the counting place fast
in Newcastle Sunderland where they often declare first all boxes might be in as early as 10.15-10.20

in Argyll & Bute where I am is huge; ( it goes from Helensburgh in the South to Campbelltown the islands of Bute, Mull Islay, Coll, Tiree and Iona and right up past Oban and out past the top of Loch lomond to Rannoch Moor ) . the boxes are taken by land; sea and air to Lochgilphead it is a huge huge area over 10,000 square miles some polling stations will be several hours drive away result not expected until around 5am

Sweetooth92 · 12/12/2019 21:38

More than likely. We usually leave it on all night and doze from 2am ish and wake regularly to check it-however this time I’m 37 weeks pregnant and the pre baby insomnia is in full force so I may as well watch more than usual!

RedandYellowSunrise · 12/12/2019 21:46

Waves I knew you mumsnetters would be waiting for me when I finally got home. Wine poured, pizza in, chocolates ready, pillow and duvet decamped to sofa. Yes I will be around most of the night, will doze a bit but can never sleep on election night, so looking forward to sharing it with you all.
Husband will go to bed and kids will be up earlier than usual to find out what Friday 13th brings...

Belindabelle · 12/12/2019 21:51

Just poured a rum and ginger beer. Fire is on, candles are lit, kids in bed and I am in my pj’s. I am here for the long haul. Watching Sky News. Feeling nervous/sick. This feels like a seminal moment in history. Whatever the outcome things will never be the same again.

Yep, definitely. Sometimes I try and sleep till about 1 but I've taken pills to keep me awake tonight so I'm wide awake!

Sometimes I even skip the exit poll as it's a bit of a spoiler!! LOVE election nights.

OwlinaTree · 12/12/2019 21:56
