Voting Conservative for the first time.

I have always been Labour, including 30 years as a member, but here are my reasons for voting Conservative:

  1. Its the best way to ensure we don't have a second Scottish independence referendum.
  2. Labour is now hard left and has been taken over by Momentum.
  3. Although I voted remain I want Brexit over and done with. It is the democratic result of the referendum and this logjam is more damaging than anything.
  4. Jeremy Corbyn is a danger to this country.
TheWaiting · 11/12/2019 17:48

Anyone who doesn’t want a hard Brexit or a move towards further privatisation of NHS services needs to do whatever is needed to reduce the Tory majority come Friday. Even if you’re a lifelong Tory voter. Tomorrow is last chance saloon for avoiding crashing out.

When Boris has gone and the Tories have returned to Centre Right or even right of Centre Right then normal service can resume but tomorrow could be cataclysmic unless we send a message that we as a nation don’t want what’s on offer from a party that’s lurched to the right and traded on the politics of fear and hate. Gary Neville was right. How can we expect an end to racist language in football when the speech of our PM is full of racist and misogynistic rhetoric.

BlaueLagune · 11/12/2019 17:48

I live in a very safe Tory seat so my vote doesn't count (oh to live in a marginal). Anyway I am pro-remain and definitely not pro-Boris so am voting Libdem.

The best outcome for me is a hung parliament where Labour/SNP/LIbdems and Caroline Lucas (plus any progressive MPs from NI) get together.

The second worst is a hefty Tory majority so Boris isn't beholden to the ERG. We'd still leave the EU but the worst of the Tory excesses could potentially be held in check.

The very worst is a small Tory majority as that would just be more of the same.

TheWaiting · 11/12/2019 17:53

@reginafelangee, re your no3, leaving in January would only be the beginning. It’s ridiculous for the government to be peddling the notion that Brexit will be ‘done’ in the near future. Brexit is only just beginning. There will be years and years of negotiations and hand wringing ahead. Vote Tory by all means but don’t do it because you think Brexit will be over and done with.
(I’m not disagreeing on point 2 at all as I agree with you so I’m no JC fan)

scaryteacher · 11/12/2019 17:59

Conservative because
Defence
Security
Brexit
Corbyn
McDonnell
Laydee Nugee (aka,Emily Thornberry)
Diane Abbott
Barry Gardiner
Keir Starker
Momentum
Milne

MrsFrankDrebin · 11/12/2019 17:59

Don't live in the UK anymore, so can't vote, but have been following - but those voting Labour, how on earth do you think they will 'afford' their promises without bankrupting the UK (again)? Labour promise big, borrow hard, and then when it all falls apart lose an election (after however many years). You can't take the same £10 and spend it 5 different ways, which seems to be the Labour philosophy. Isn't the UK only in 'austerity' because of the mess Labour left behind before?

But happy to be told differently (with facts, not hysteria) because from the outside, it just seems like Labour is promising the earth, but can't actually afford it.

reginafelangee · 11/12/2019 18:01

@TheWaiting thank you yes I am aware of that. I do understand how it works. My point was more about the logjam of parliament going around in endless circles and not agreeing. Sorry if I was unclear.

reginafelangee · 11/12/2019 18:03

@scaryteacher

I agree with all your list although I don't mind Keir Starmer too much.

Thestaffarealwayswrong · 11/12/2019 18:05

Conservative. As I I’m in employment

This attitude is one of the reasons I'm not voting Tory. I'm in employment but low paid - and full time btw and I'm fed up to the back teeth of being painted as a feckless lazy scrounger, by people who think that I shouldn't earn enough to live on, but also shouldn't get any help. The same type of people who have no issues whatsoever using the services of people like me. I'm also a single mum and I'm a bit sick of the blessing men get to walk away without responsibility for their families while women take the work, financial responsibility and the blame. As well as BJ's attitude towards them.
I was torn but increasing comments like that have pushed me away. I agree with some Tory policies, and think they'd be good for the country, and though a remainer I think the country voted out so that's what should happen. But ultimately I'm going to vote labour because they are the only ones who stand a chance of getting the Tories out here, and I'm scared for education, the NHS and lower income families if we carry on with conservative.

capsule · 11/12/2019 18:05

I will vote tactically to get the Tories out. I'm feeling sad at the prospect of a country led by Boris Johnson.

Bluewavescrashing · 11/12/2019 18:16

Labour because I value state education and the NHS.

I have private health insurance if that's relevant.

Batmanandrobin123 · 11/12/2019 18:32

Lib dem. I wanted to vote labour until I found out that we would have to pay thousands more in tax every year as my DH is self employed and relies on dividends for most of his income.
Labour's tax plans would destroy our finances and we are by no means rich, dh earns less than 35k a year. The claim that only wealthy households will pay more tax under labour is total BS.

dramaticpenguin · 11/12/2019 18:35

If you're voting Tory, can you explain why, other than not liking corbyn? Because not liking an alternative person seems like not a very positive choice, and I really want to understand how they keep getting votes!

Iamnotagoddess · 11/12/2019 18:36

Labour because I want anything other than the tories.

It will be wasted though without proportional representation Sad

rhubarbcrumbles · 11/12/2019 18:38

Said i would vote for whatever dd wanted and thats it..

Why? It's your vote and not your daughter's.

Noth1ngtoseehere · 11/12/2019 18:39

Want to vote Green but only way of getting rid of our Tory MP is labour so we’ll be voting labour for the first time.Shock Normally Lib Dem.

Chaotica · 11/12/2019 18:42

Labour but I would vote tactically if I thought it would get our Tory MP out.

Reasons:
NHS
Brexit 2nd referendum
Our public services (education, housing etc) need investment and the widespread poverty needs solving
The Tories' xenophobic and blatantly racist campaign scares me
Not afraid of higher tax for better public services

Whizbang · 11/12/2019 18:48

Tory, because I don’t want to see the country destroyed by incompetence

greenlobster · 11/12/2019 18:59

Labour because I agree with most of their policies. I'm sure they'd be far from perfect at running the country but I do think they'd do a better job than the tories or lib dems.

user1471448556 · 11/12/2019 19:02

I’m a Lib Dem but I’m voting Labour tomorrow. Tactical vote to stop the awful Tory candidate and because I detest Johnson.

JeffreeStar · 11/12/2019 19:06

Conservatives, I want brexit done and I don’t want a labour government. People complain about Austerity but do they realise it’s usually because labour over spend and over promise.

aquashiv · 11/12/2019 19:20

I wish people allowed others to.honestly give their answers. So few Tories are allowed to say what they think and are made to be evil monsters selfish monsters for not voting for Jezza and his unknown musty policies.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 11/12/2019 19:22

Green

Though I do not like their support of self id but so not want to spoil my paper.

I was a Labour Party member for years I do not like what they party has become.

In labour safe seat

Thorilicious · 11/12/2019 19:25

Labour. I've always voted Labour, but out of curiosity, I did the vote for policies test, and also checked out a tactical voting site, and they both came out Labour too.

Oldbutstillgotit · 11/12/2019 19:26

Voting tactically - Tory to try to get SNP out .
