Settle a disagreement: AIBU to leave this advent candle burning throughout December including when everyone is out or in bed?

Picture for context, the candle is inside the glass/metal case.

One of us is saying it's perfectly safe and that's what an advent candle is for. The other is saying a flame should never be left unattended, no matter how safe it seems.

I’m so happy to see so many people supporting op in not leaving it burning. DH must be a complete airhead to have danced through life unaware of the risks, not just to your home and family but also to neighbours and firefighters. Bloody idiot.

CSIblonde · 11/12/2019 17:26

So, so risky OP. It goes against all safety advice. House shared with a Firefighter back in my 20's: 90% of the house fires he went to were down to candles left burning.

redwoodmazza · 11/12/2019 18:34

What's the worst that can happen?
Oh yes - your house could burn down.
DON'T DO IT!!!

Tellmetruth4 · 11/12/2019 18:45

I’ve had a candle glass break before. Not worth the risk.

Wow, you really have to ask? You have no common sense whatsoever, let others close to you make the adult decisions!

VestaTilley · 12/12/2019 06:05

Are you crazy?? If you leave it unattended you could burn down your house.

We have an advent candle- we light it in the evenings when we're present and blow it out at bedtime- it usually takes 2 hours to burn down to the next day on the candle- so you stop each day at that point.

How does he fight actual fires if candles terrify him @brightonroc ?

thekaiserswife · 12/12/2019 06:28

Of course not, don't be stupid.

I imagine that it is the thought of the consequences of candles rather than the actual flame. Obviously.

Some people are either lazy fuckers who can't be arsed to RTFT, or so inflated with their own self-righteous self-importance that they must get their point of view over and don't care that there are further updates from the OP.

RTFT!
