Settle a disagreement: AIBU to leave this advent candle burning throughout December including when everyone is out or in bed?

Picture for context, the candle is inside the glass/metal case.

One of us is saying it's perfectly safe and that's what an advent candle is for. The other is saying a flame should never be left unattended, no matter how safe it seems.

It’s like one of those photos where you circle the dangers.
I see 7.

Skysblue · 10/12/2019 20:49

Wow, glad I don’t live next door to you guys. Totally selfish to even consider leaving a candle unattended overnight.

nannykatherine · 10/12/2019 21:06

Grenfell

Deadsouls · 10/12/2019 21:14

I wouldn't.

Deadsouls · 10/12/2019 21:14

Why would you?!!!!

Aglet · 10/12/2019 21:24

We don't do candles cos we set fire to a crimbo deco and didn't notice straight away. Also had neighbour down road who did same to one in window which they hadn't noticed till we knocked on door and told them.

Gbtch · 10/12/2019 21:39

Lovely Christmas decorating. Don’t leave candle unattended. Why would you want to?

Really? Do you need to ask! I think you know the answer.......

Emeraldshamrock · 10/12/2019 23:07

No wonder there fire services are extra busy over Christmas.
I won't leave a tea light unattended.

Pipandmum · 10/12/2019 23:11

They don't leave them lit even in church

wibdib · 10/12/2019 23:17

Given the dangers of lit candles, why would anybody bother when they could use an LED one instead? Death wish, completely crazy to even think about it burning for an hour or two, let alone a month...

Blacksheepcat · 10/12/2019 23:18

Your AIBU vote was so unclear. I said YABU as your post suggested you thought this was ok. If infact, it is your DH that thinks you should leave a burning candle unattended then he’s beyond stupid and YANBU

Eveting2019 · 10/12/2019 23:24

Is your husband always this blind when it comes to safety?

Sb74 · 10/12/2019 23:24

@spicyribs - pretty disgusted by your comment which sounds like you’re trying to be humorous.. Completely inappropriate.

CareOfPunts · 10/12/2019 23:27

Who in their right mind would leave a naked flame burning unattended day and night? Absolutely ridiculous.

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/12/2019 23:34

Not RTWT but I am sure that if a candle is left unattended and then causes a fire, your insurance wont pay out. I know that when the pub over the road burned down the insurance didnt pay because it was a scented candle left burning in the bathroom that started it.

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/12/2019 23:35

And I am sure everyone someone else has said that, so sorry for repeating if they have!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/12/2019 23:51

Is that an open fire, if so Should that stocking be there.
