Dropping out of Masters so embarrassed and lost

Realised my dissertation is simply not good enough. It absolute won't pass, it would be ok for undergrad but not this. DP is exasperated says I'm being too hard on myself and negative, that's not it though it really is not relevant and only realised what the problem is today and can't fix it in a couple of days.

I'm so depressed about this, and my family will be a bit contemptuous. I've dropped out of a postgrad degree before but really thought I could do it this time - and I have done well in my assignments so there's that. I will have a certificate.

My family all take for granted I can just do this level of academic work, I grew up being told how bright I am and im clearly bloody not!! I feel like that is (unintentionally) a set up for feeling like a failure when I can't deliver? Which I honestly can't.

I have an adhd diagnosis but not even really sure I have it, I have several medical conditions which can possibly interfere with concentration and stamina, and mean I could not try the adhd medication anyway.

The thing is it doesn't even matter what the reason is for failing, the reasons why become meaningless, just that oh look KnuckFows has failed again smirk smirk.

At a loss, not sure what direction to go in now without this degree. More fool me for thinking id get it.

How did you get on? Did you submit in the end?

Please don't give up. Ask your supervisor is s/he will look through a draft and advise. Read through what you have written and edit our any repetition; make sure the referencing is completed; read through some of primary source material and see if there are any more points you could discuss; make sure you have described your approach(es) and method of analysis. Make an action plan with your supervisor which seems feasible to both of you.

It is natural to have crises of confidence at this stage. If you were not good enough for the Masters, you would not have got onto the course.

Email your supervisor & let her know the situation, she might offer a further extension, but if not hand in what you've done. You scored well on your other assignments, this might be enough to skim you in a pass.
You'll loose nothing by handing it in & you might gain a qualification. Good luck!

I hope you manage to sort. Sorry if it's been said but I assume if you drop out you'll get a postgraduate diploma, not a certificate? This is usually enough for a lot of the professional postgraduate qualifications, I did the same, although as you may be able to tell by my name I've decided to re-enrol to do my dissertation so I can get the full masters as I always regretted not doing so. A PG Dip is worth more than a PG cert, hopefully you'll be able to sort one way or another though.

I hired a reader for my MA dissertation via peopleperhour. She was a PhD student in my subject & was fantastic. She didn't do any of the donkey work or writing but would tell me if there were any holes, problems with the flow, spelling/grammar errors etc. Most importantly (to me) she reassured me that I knew my stuff & that I was doing fine. If you advertise as a rush job you might find someone willing to help. It'd be such a shame not handing it in. You've done all that work & have all that knowledge, it's just a case of getting it down on paper effectively.
