Mumsnet is only place I can ask this and get straight, honest responses.

So asking for your blunt opinions on bust 32, waist 26, hips 34. Think thigh is about 19 at biggest point. Small, big, good, bad or somewhere in middle?

Just trying to work out if I need to go on my annual pre Xmas diet and for once want to go on measurements not weight! But struggle to know what good normal is with all media/insta bodies!

5ft5 if relevant. Thanks!

OP this is not a healthy approach to body image. Your validation shouldn’t live or die at the hands of anonymous mumsnet commenters. Please be kinder to yourself and don’t place so much stock in the opinions or strangers.

bakedbeanzontoast · 06/12/2019 17:51

If you are not stealth boasting you need to seek help.

I tell you this as someone who has had for the last ten years and still has an ED.

Happygirl79 · 06/12/2019 17:51

You are a person
Not a shop mannequin
Be happy to be yourself

PhoneLock · 06/12/2019 17:56

I am sure I remember having a 24 inch belt when I was in Brownies in the 80s. I must have been, what 8

Steady! I'm somewhat older than that and have been wearing a 24" belt today to stop my 26" trousers falling down.

I'm not underweight.

ohprettybaby · 06/12/2019 18:02

In the 'olden days' (Smile) the perfect size used to be 32, 24, 36.

At 5'5" you are very slim. Your hips are a fair bit smaller and waist is bigger. That's just down to shape. You sound like you have quite a boyish figure which looks great in most clothes.

dayswithaY · 06/12/2019 18:14

A wonderful woman that I used to know just died, very suddenly. Life is for living, please just go out, be happy, stop looking for faults. I have had an eating disorder, I'm better now, life is so much better now that I don't measure my body or want to.

Octopus37 · 06/12/2019 18:23

Your measurements sound fab, for comparison mine are 35-30-40 and I'm in the middle of a healthy BMI, trying to lose just a bit of weight v slowly and sensibly, have struggled with all this stuff in the past. As days says, life is for living. Wear clothes that you feel good in, do your hair and make up how you like them, do what you can to feel good cause if you feel negative about your body, you cannot just shrug it off overnight, it is a gradual process. Good luck

GlamGiraffe · 06/12/2019 18:24

You're the same size as me (although no idea about the legs), (I had to be measured as my son is making some peculiar garment for me as part of his textile design course), I am very thin.
I would never consider a diet, I eat whatever I want when I'm hungry .
I am thin and know it. If you are not aware of this that is worrying. I am happy in myself, I dont care how I go out dressed, if I'm wearing make up (or if I have grotty hair😫) as I'm happy being me. Size is irrelevant. I am happy in my skin.

Mamabear88 · 06/12/2019 18:26

You sound very slim to me, even at 5'5". Definitely don't need to be dieting!! Instagram is so unhealthy and not real and if anything i'd say you need to take a break from that.

MarshaBradyo · 06/12/2019 18:28

I don’t know what that means other than the waist size which is what, an 8?

Sounds fine to me

BMI probably better way to gauge if you’re underweight or over

Wishimaywishimight · 06/12/2019 18:28

Surely you can't fail to notice that when you go shopping you are buying one of the smallest sizes - 6 or 8 presumably? So I find it really hard to believe you genuinely believe yourself to be big and are instead fishing for compliments.

BertrandRussell · 06/12/2019 18:30

You either have a disphoria or you are fishing for compliments. Acknowledge which and act accordingly.

yy558 · 06/12/2019 18:44

Your Christmas Dinner shouldnt be dictated about measurements.

Those measurements mean nothing - More toned!/ muscle will look better than untoned in the same measurements.

Go eat a mince pie

SweetAsSpice · 06/12/2019 18:46

Yawn

Flymetothetoon · 06/12/2019 21:15

Herbalteahippie · 06/12/2019 21:18

You’re the same as me! X

Bluntness100 · 06/12/2019 21:24

Very odd thread.

So you're a size six, five foot five and want to know if you should diet? And your mother is apparently smaller than you and thinks you're big, so she's what max a size four and likely a two?

Hmm
Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 06/12/2019 21:25
Biscuit
Nacreous · 06/12/2019 21:43

When I was really unwell with stomach problems and couldn't eat, I was barely off underweight, and my measurements were 36-26-36, 5' 3" tall.

I would really try to take a step back from this and look at what you can do to change the way you feel about your body.

MitziK · 06/12/2019 22:04

You 'don't feel tiny'?

Not feeling 'tiny', whatever the fuck that is, doesn't mean shit. I feel very small every day because I'm dwarfed by 85% of the kids at school. I felt like a great lumpen beast around my mother because she was seven inches shorter than me, though. And her child sized hands and size 3 feet did nothing to make me feel any better. I'm exactly the same height as you.

It didn't matter whether I was underweight and smaller in size than you, the same size as you or, as I am now, significantly larger than you. I was small around taller (and nicer) people, huge around a mean and shorter one.

This is about your mother critiquing you for not being her height or size, not your perfectly healthy and slim size being wrong. She makes you feel like crap.

MajesticWhine · 06/12/2019 22:21

I have never measured my thigh in my life.
Honest response? Have some fun, eat some cheese and and stop this nonsense.

Orchidflower1 · 07/12/2019 06:22

I love it when @BertrandRussell hits the nail on the head!!

You either have a disphoria or you are fishing for compliments. Acknowledge which and act accordingly

THIS IS CORRECT ^^^^
And YES IM SHOUTING!!!!!

PhilCornwall1 · 07/12/2019 06:50

Just read the thread title and imagined the OP saying her measurements like the bloke from the national lottery!

What a weird thread, especially as half the "influencers" on social media who post pictures, spend about 6 hours preparing themselves for one bloody picture!

BellatrixLestat · 07/12/2019 07:05

Sounds like your mother has triggered body dysmorphia. You need to get some help before you develop an eating disorder.

WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl · 07/12/2019 07:13

Am I the only one who genuinely has no idea what these numbers would look like or what my own numbers are?
