Mumsnet is only place I can ask this and get straight, honest responses.

So asking for your blunt opinions on bust 32, waist 26, hips 34. Think thigh is about 19 at biggest point. Small, big, good, bad or somewhere in middle?

Just trying to work out if I need to go on my annual pre Xmas diet and for once want to go on measurements not weight! But struggle to know what good normal is with all media/insta bodies!

5ft5 if relevant. Thanks!

OP posts:
BellatrixLestat · 07/12/2019 07:21

@WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl Those numbers at 5ft5 are roughly size 6/8. I'd say size 10 absolute maximum.

The only reason I know about numbers is that I don't weigh myself. I use measurements to determine my body size as I find weight fluctuates and does not reflect true body composition. That's completely personal though. Everyone has different ways of measuring and some have none at all and that's perfectly fine!

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 07/12/2019 07:29

Agree with @JasonPollack. Some of the participants in these threads are as unhelpful as the people who started them.

I am now 2 to 2.5 stone overweight but I consider myself healthier and certainly much happier than I was for the 10 years or so I spent literally OBSESSED with my weight/calories/measurements/dress size. Being free of those intrusive negative thoughts which overshadowed every aspect of my life is a huge relief for which I am forever grateful.

I hope you can find a way out of your fucked up thinking OP.

feelingverylazytoday · 07/12/2019 07:54

Whenyoucantrunyoucrawl just to help you picture these measurements, my daughter has the same measurements, apart from being slightly smaller in the hips and 3 inches shorter. She still fits into age 11-12 clothes (she is an adult).
This is tiny, and if the OP is genuine she should think about getting some professional help re her body issues.

MerryDeath · 07/12/2019 08:13

Hmm seek help for your body image difficulties and don't try and bring other people into it

MerryDeath · 07/12/2019 08:15

you don't know if you are "ok" OP? this is a dreadful way to live your life... sorry you had a toxic mother. give her some space and seek help.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/12/2019 11:33

"Am I the only one who genuinely has no idea what these numbers would look like or what my own numbers are?"

When I was younger models' dimensions were given in magazines and they were often around 34-24-34 so OP has dimensions similar to a model and basically what is considered ideal by many people in our society. She's probably a size 8.

Those are a little bigger than my measurements and same height. I usually cut down two weeks before christmas so that i am not bloated on christmas. Do what works best for you. If ypu think you will turn into a little fatty on christmas then maybe start dieting now.

Brimful · 07/12/2019 12:08

Charming.

xJune88 · 07/12/2019 12:14

I'd say you must be tiny. Just before my wedding I was 31 27 34 and 5ft2 I looked very skinny and was a size 6.

feelingverylazytoday · 07/12/2019 12:17

This is not relevant. She ie either a healthy weight, or she isn't. Many people consider models to be too thin.
She is extremely unlikely to be a size 8 in todays sizes, though she might have been 30 or 40 years ago.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/12/2019 12:50

"This is not relevant. She ie either a healthy weight, or she isn't. Many people consider models to be too thin."

She didn't state that she was asking from a health perspective. I presumed it was from an aesthetic one. To know healthy weight, OP would just check her BMI surely.

"Many people consider models to be too thin."
Yes, I don't consider the dimensions I gave for models to be ideal, but I'd consider OP's to be around ideal, at a guess without having seen her.

Underweight models have been banned, but I agree that what looks good on the catwalk or magazine to show off clothes isn't necessarily ideal in real life, even from an aesthetic perspective.

"She is extremely unlikely to be a size 8 in todays sizes, though she might have been 30 or 40 years ago."

When I was young - 20-25 years ago, (not 40 years ago!), a size 26 waist was a 10 so likely to be an 8 now, obviously depending on the shop.

OverByYer · 07/12/2019 12:53

Trip trap

charm8ed · 07/12/2019 12:58

I used to measure 34, 23.5, 37 and I was a size 10 and a size 12 in fitted/straight skies, knickers and jeans.
Now I’m 38, 30, 40 (size 14 75% of the time , size 12 25%) but please don’t critique me!

charm8ed · 07/12/2019 12:58

Skirts not skies

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 07/12/2019 13:04

You're tiny. I've not had a 26 inch waist since I was the age of twelve.

Is this a stealth boast?

ManiacalLapwing · 07/12/2019 13:12

Those measurements sound slim and healthy, you'd be a size 6 to maybe 8 on clothing that is fitted on the waist. Your waist to hip ratio is good and low risk with regards to health. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

georgialondon · 07/12/2019 13:20

Just normal

You want validation from total strangers as to whether you should restrict your food intake as an adult woman?

Please discuss with your GP. At the very least it sounds like disordered thinking about eating. It really doesn't sound mentally well, and I'm not saying that to take a shot at you, but to urge you to go to counselling and develop a strong sense of self worth based on real measures. Please consider it. X

AloneLonelyLoner · 07/12/2019 14:31

You are asking for validation.

I remember trying on size zero jeans in Gap once and asking a sales assistant if she thought I looked fat in them. If she had slapped me across the face for being an asshole it wouldn't have been unexpected.

I was anorexic and obviously wanting validation.

You are normal. Ok. Don't diet before Xmas. If you want to, what I'd do is swap food for alcohol. It worked for me.

Or on the other hand get a hold of yourself and don't ask for validation from unsuitable sources.

You'll always look fat to you until you love yourself.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/12/2019 19:08

"I usually cut down two weeks before christmas so that i am not bloated on christmas. "

Nah. Lots of parties before Christmas, mince pies and chocolates in the office. I enjoy myself and then cut down in January. Dry January and diet to begin the year. Lots of other people do the same so it doesn't feel as much of a hardship as it would in December.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 07/12/2019 19:20

Bloody hell OP you need to find a better way to spend your time than obsessing with a tape measure. Its like teenage boys measuring their knobs.

Mrshue · 07/12/2019 19:25

I’m a 32/26/36. I’m a size 6-8!! No way does this need slimming down. Ridiculous!

dontalltalkatonce · 07/12/2019 19:30

I was 38-26-36 at 40 weeks pregnant! Gah! Yeah, you definitely need to hit the fat farm Hmm.
