There's nothing wrong with not knowing, but we are up to page 21 of this and we're STILL getting the "Santa is American and therefore wrong" shite
I think that’s mainly for people not RTFT as well.
But I don’t think I’m self absorbed, or entitled, or arrogant for not knowing, I just didn’t know. The only time I had ever heard Santa was in American Christmas films, so naturally assumed it was an American term.
Same with Halloween, it was always in the movies with the big Halloween parties, and the other decorated houses, (which we’re invariably teepeed if the door wasn’t answered).
As I said though, I don’t think that makes me self absorbed or any of the other things this thread has claimed English people to be.
On a side note, I only recently learned that the original pumpkins were turnips, and that people of my generation in the north east grew up carving turnips, which I’m assuming was from Scotland.
I’m sure that southerners must have had some of their own customs, god knows what they were though lol
