Nativity AIBU

My ds is a cow in the nativity along with a lot of his friends,he’s very excited about it and I think they will be very cute.

My friend’s ds has a small speaking part but she has made a point of being really weird about the nativity. She told me she’d been online and researched all the parts and that the part her ds has is almost on the level of the King with the play. I’m fine with this but then she started making fun of my ds because he’s going to be a cow. My ds didn’t hear this but AIBU to think this is petty and weird behaviour?

Very weird, but some people are.

Mintypea5 · 04/12/2019 22:32

Nativities bring out the worst in some parents! A friend told me about how his wife stormed into the classroom and asked the teacher why their daughter wasn't playing Mary Shock

FatAndFurious7 · 04/12/2019 22:32

She's way too invested in randomly assigned characters... also if she's genuinely taking the mick then shes not your friend and has some issues

venusmay · 04/12/2019 22:35

I thought it was very weird.I don’t want her to say anything to ds.Hes so happy and I just want him to enjoy this play.I don’t understand why she needed to put him down, I’m happy that her ds has a speaking part but not happy about my child being made fun of!

Do a tinkly laugh and say to her "Oh god you've turned into one of those mother's!"
If she continues I'd say Moo every.single.time as a response to her Grin

What a prat she is!!!!

Freddiefox · 04/12/2019 22:37

She’s a twat, maybe she lives through her children, or she’s the competitive type.. whatever it is it’s her problem not yours.

BenevolentEzza · 04/12/2019 22:39

You what?

What has she researched exactly? 😂 Did she read the Bible? 🤭

FFS, I've actually read it all now.

venusmay · 04/12/2019 22:39

I was pretty shocked when she said this to me.Our dcs have known each other for a long time, why would she make fun of a small child?

venusmay · 04/12/2019 22:40

Benevolent she went online and looked at the story or script I think.I know,it’s very strange!

Hillocrew · 04/12/2019 22:41

To elevate her own self worth.
Horrible

littlepaddypaws · 04/12/2019 22:41

total fruit loop !

venusmay · 04/12/2019 22:42

It is horrible when I think of it.Just so glad that my ds didn’t hear this.

Yesmate · 04/12/2019 22:43

Drop her. She’s bat shit. Enjoy the nativity and I hope your DS has a lovely time being a cow.

BenevolentEzza · 04/12/2019 22:44

😂 She's bonkers Venus - I'd suggest slowly detaching from that particular friendship... 😳

thistimelastweek · 04/12/2019 22:44

This is a joke right?

venusmay · 04/12/2019 22:45

Yesmate - ds is really excited he’s got a cute costume to wear...I’m happy he’s so excited and think it’s so cruel for a grown up to be this mean.

OP posts:
Icecreamsoda99 · 04/12/2019 22:45

Gosh you have to feel sorry for her, how insecure she must be! But I do like pp suggestion of laughing and saying "oh you've become on of those mother's Grin

Rosere · 04/12/2019 22:46

The cow sounds brilliant. Was hoping DD was a camel so I could make the costume but she got some boring part. Your DS sounds delighted with himself, some lady with a poor attitude isn't going to deflate him.

venusmay · 04/12/2019 22:46

Thistimelastweek no it isn’t a joke.I wish it was! I’ve never seen this side of her before. Possibly being competitive I don’t know, I think I will try to avoid her in future.

Very odd! Scripts can be online if they are in a published production that schools can buy into, but we used to change the scripts hugely to make sure children had more or less lines etc or we added to them to include more children. I'd say its impossible for her to say what she said about the lines. Weird and overly competitive.
(Why do all parents think Mary & Joseph are top roles? We alsways gave them to children too shy to speak)

Yesmate · 04/12/2019 22:47

@Rosere my DS is a camel. I love the nativity!!

Thehop · 04/12/2019 22:48

Yuck. She’s turned into one of those parents.

She’s a dick.

sunshineandshowers21 · 04/12/2019 22:48

there’s a woman whose daughter is in my son’s class who was really unhappy that her daughter wasn’t mary in the nativity. she was stood talking to the teacher for ages the other day about it, and then asked the mum of the girl playing mary if she would ask her daughter to swap places so that her daughter could be mary. she then posted on facebook (my sister is friends with her and showed me) that it wasn’t fair because her daughter went to dance classes and was one of the best talkers in the class. mary barely says anything anyway! 😂 nativities really do seem to bring out the weirdness in parents.

venusmay · 04/12/2019 22:50

I know! I’ve never experienced anything like it! To actually go online and for her to look it up it’s odd and I wouldn’t have expected it from her.

I know someone whose son didn’t really want to be a sheep so she went in and asked the teacher if he could be something else. I think the teacher politely pointed out that she couldn’t actually agree to that.
