How ‘thin’ is Hollywood?

Sorry couldn’t find ‘chat’ section to post in. Driven by some recent mumsnet threads where there was disagreement on what slim/thin is, I just wondered, how thin do you think celebrities are?

Do you think most of Hollywood is under weight/ BMI under 18.5?

I always wondered- are they normal and we have lost sight, or are they really thin and unhealthily restricting?

I know that’s a generalisation either way but just thought would be interesting to get thoughts!

Some odd comments on here. No one can seriously think all female celebs are tiny and between six and seven stone, like some sort of weird borrower thing.

I've met a few, and also seen a few at Heathrow when travelling and my instinct would say generally they are a healthy weight and towards the lower end of a healthy bmi but still a healthy bmi.

I think the comments on this thread show we really have lost sight of what a normal slim figure looks like. Yes there will be some very thin ones, just like there are over weight ones, but as a majority I don't think there can be any doubt most are in the healthy bmi category.

Still chuckling thought at the thought of all female celebs apart from s couple of " chubby ones" being six to seven stone and tiny,

And eh they make the dresses to fit the celebs, there are whole costume departments, not the other way about, that the celebs have to fit the clothes.

They probably have a BMI of about 17-18. My mum is tiny with a BMI of just under 18 and size wise she looks around the same size and a Hollywood actress, she wears an 6 because it’s the easiest size to get in the shops but does fit into a 4 (2 up top).

Lee Child (male writer - Jack Reacher novels but now Hollywood movies starring Tom Cruise) was in a Sunday supplement the other day - at 6’4” and 10 st he is underweight. He says he maintains it by being permanently hungry

I am not talking UK actresses, I am talking "hollywood" stars or A list
I have seen a good few as have people I know and they are TINY in real life, much smaller than they appear on screen
I am only guessing the weight but if I am 8 stone and 5 7 so they are at least a stone thinner than me

I met Sienna Miller as a teenager and weighed between 6.5-7 stone, she was much thinner than me.

Your post is exactly the same as the comments you’re calling odd bluntness- how would you know whether Hollywood actresses are a healthy weight or not?!

Workmates saw Courtney Cox walking around at a Snow Patrol gig a few months ago. Everyone said about how tiny she was and how big her head looked.

They do have to fit the clothes. There are hundreds and hundreds of costumes and samples given in by designers. These are a certain size.

If anyone is too big for the samples that designers have given, (size 10+) then new clothes would have to be bought for the actress.

It's part of their job to stay thin or they wont get cast.

And yeah they don’t have whole costume departments for their appearances on the red carpets etc

Angelina Jolie is impossibly slender in real life. I think she's beautiful, I think women look beautiful at a range of sizes.

The big stars - the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Kidman, or Cate Blanchett - will likely have clothes made for them. Others won't. But it's not just about physically fitting into dresses. The pressure on these women to stay or become thin must be enormous. It's a general rule that the more famous a woman becomes, the thinner she gets. Or put differently, the more we see of a woman, the less we do. Take Margot Robbie - she used to be just normally slim, but is now Hollywood thin.

I've got friends in film PR and TV awards and they say that everyone is much slimmer in person so yes I imagine we would find that tiny compared to the majority of people in the street.

Does that work for the men too? Huge Hackman style action men are actually small too?? 😂 funny thought

I read that, male, actors all have slightly larger heads than normal because it looks in better proportion on screen. That could be bullshit mind you

I've just done a bit of googling on Kate Middleton, angelina jolie, CC and JA. Google seems to think they are 53-57kg range, so 8-9 stone?

When I was 21 I weighed just under seven stone (5’6”). I was naturally just over seven stone - so that’s the weight I was after two weeks in hospital with septicaemia. I looked terrifying. Even after a bit of weight gain people thought I was anorexic. Clothes hung off me and nothing fitted. I can remember crying in changing rooms because trousers flapped about and I looked like a skeleton.

If I had weighed six stone I would have looked like I was dead. Can these women really weigh six stone?

I saw Celine Dion in an ad earlier, she looks shockingly thin, almost skeletal.

There is no way Kate Middleton is 9 stone

Being on film does make you look fatter - in one of Maureen Lipman's books she mentions that she often starts speeches by saying 'Yes, I DO look thinner in real life" and everyone laughs because that is what they are all thinking.
