.... then there’s no reason he shouldn’t also be able to self-ID as a Native American, a quadriplegic, a child or even a badger, if that’s how “he” feels in “him”self?

Or am I missing something?

The world is going mad and a vast amount of this is a ridiculous case jumping on the band wagon. Whatever happened to just getting on with stuff. You can't change your chromosomes.

I wanted to be a cat when I was a child. Thank goodness my parents didn't immediately take me off for fur and tail growing injections.

GoFiguire · 03/12/2019 16:00

I self ID as a thin person but I still can’t fit into a bloody size 10. Clothing manufacturer fckers.

kristallen · 03/12/2019 16:00

@thenightsky Stefonknee is the "little girl name" and "She now lives with an adopted family, who she says are “totally comfortable with me being a little girl.”

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

The world has gone mad. Saw in the weekend papers schools want o give LGBT lessons from 4 years old, my grandchildren dont know the "basic" facts of life, never mind bombarding them with, you can change sex, or its OK to be gay (it is of course,) but a 4 year old doesnt need to be confused by this extra information. One of my DD who is in retil, had to do a course, and was told if someone wants to identify as a toaster, you have to respect their wishes. A few few people are of course suffering from body dismorphia, beleiving they are in the wrong body, ugly, or fat when they are not. When I read man gives birth, if you have a womb, ovaries etc, you can identify as a man all you want doesnt make it the case.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 03/12/2019 16:05

There is a woman in Norway who says she’s a cat. I laughed when I first read this...

Didn’t laugh when I read this one though...

Stefonknee is the "little girl name" and "She now lives with an adopted family, who she says are “totally comfortable with me being a little girl.”

Also know that Stefonkee likes to sit on Stefonkee's "father's" "lap" and then other things happen between the two of them.

This is all available on line from Stefoknee themself, should you have the remotest urge to learn about the sexual activity they partake in, in that scenario.

NearlyGranny · 03/12/2019 16:11

I:m waiting for the first self-identifying transwomen tennis players to attempt to play in the women's tournament at Wimbledon.

If Wimbledon falls, all is over.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 03/12/2019 16:11

I believe the ‘parents’ also have a little girl. How social services aren’t camping on their front lawn I don’t know.

justmyview · 03/12/2019 16:12

@thrnightsky @Kristallen

Apologies for the Daily Mail link, but this is something else. I've heard everything now

donquixotedelamancha · 03/12/2019 16:21

When you tick the form it is not about a ‘racial stereotype’ it is literally asking what race you are.

You can't be 'literally' a race. Humans don't have races (some species do). Ethnicity is a cultural phenomenon.

That, unfortunately, doesn't make racism any less harmful- but it's entirely based on stereotypes, it's not real.

thereplycamefromanchorage · 03/12/2019 16:24

Yanbu. Oppressors (men) self identifying as the oppressed (women) and then claiming women who object to this are oppressing them. I have no issue with how either sex presents, what name they take, the clothes they wear. But nobody becomes a woman by magically saying they are one.

Prevegen4U · 03/12/2019 16:33

With self-IDing hypochondriacs who ID as suffering from an illness or as being disabled should be treated as such.

Prevegen4U · 03/12/2019 16:33

After all, they really believe it and it affects their lives.

Oakenbeach · 03/12/2019 16:41

How has this madness consumed so much of our politics?... the LDs and Greens being the worst culprits. I wonder who much their support has been impacted by this.

Stressedout10 · 03/12/2019 16:44

Just a thought but if someone has body dismorphia (sp) which is a mental health disorder perhaps instead of humouring them we should be giving them the psychiatric treatment that they clearly need

Stooshie8 · 03/12/2019 16:46

No one would really id as a woman in today's world, given the choice they would id as a man.
Or I would.

GoKartMozart · 03/12/2019 16:47

For the Christmas period I have decided to identify as a sloth.

WeePinklet · 03/12/2019 16:48

I think you must be me, OP, because that's exactly what I've been thinking for s while.

Am thinking of self-identifying as a rich person with tens of thousands in my bank account. Presumably it would be discriminatory if the bank were to refuse to allow me to withdraw it Crown Grin

pugparty · 03/12/2019 16:53

I've never known anywhere so obsessed with trans people in the whole of my life.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 03/12/2019 16:57

Must be something to do with the taking away if woman’s rights or something eh?

Thing is, there’s only really something to be gained if you identify into a group who are less privileged than yourself. For eg, a white man identifies as a black man, only everybody can see he’s a white man so he won’t suffer the racism a visibly black man would. The only time his identification as black will make any difference is if he’s going for a position which has been reserved for a POC.

Conversely, me for eg. I have a very obvious disability which prevents me from doing lots of things that people who don’t have that disability can do easily. There’s no point whatsoever of me identifying as not having that disability because I’ll still have it, it’ll still be obvious and I still won’t be able to do all those things people who don’t have that disability can do.

So, a man who identifies as a woman will still be a man. People will know he’s still a man because hardly any men truly pass as women, not even the ones who’ve had all the surgery and hormones, so he’ll still be treated like a man. Not only that but he’ll still have the socialisation and expectations of a person who was born and raised mail, and who has all of the advantages afforded to him that brings. The only real difference will come when he wants to access spaces and positions reserved for women. Conversely, a woman who identifies as a man is still a woman. Granted transmen pass better than transwomen if they’ve had surgery and hormones but in most cases people can still tell. I for example could transition, but I’m 5 feet 2 and proportionate for a woman of my size, and given that most women are smaller than most men, people will still be in most cases able to tell. In the world of men she’ll still have the socialisation and expectations of a person born and raised female, and will be subjected to the disadvantages that brings, and when she tries to access positions currently reserved for or favoured for men she’ll lose out, because sexism.

Interestingly the GRA has an exception whereby a women who transition to be a man will not be eligible to inherit certain land and titles, because of sexism.

So, in short, self identification is a way to have your larger slice of the pie, then eat some other less privileged person’s slice as well, because for the less privileged person it doesn’t work.

Cocolapew · 03/12/2019 17:08

We're not obsessed with trans people.
We are concerned about men stamping all over women's rights and spaces.

KenDodd · 03/12/2019 17:15

@Booboostwo

Self-ID, in the jurisdictions in which it applies, is a legal process in which one makes a truthful declaration and is subject to legal governance like other similar declarations. There are legal sanctions for making a false declaration.

Has anyone ever been prosecuted for making what was deemed to be a false declaration? Genuine question.
