Tax credits have just put nearly 10k in my bank

Just checked my bank, as I do most days at 12am incase payments have Gone in from my free lance job.
I don’t earn very much so I like to keep an eye.

I have just checked and nearly had a heart attack to see there was 8k in there. Last time I checked I had £113

I quickly scrolled to see where it had come from and it says bank giro - which is usually tax credits/ child benefit, but I get paid on a Friday.
And usually only £63 per week.

I have one child, have not changed circumstances all year. Haven’t contacted them for anything recently either.

WHAT DO I DO?

Totally agree with @sall74

I was reading earlier about some “struggling and starving on UC” woman who had won a massive amount of money on online bingo. So “struggling” she could drop £100 on playing bingo online 😂

Spacebowlisback · 03/12/2019 10:58

Oh fingers crossed OP!

AnotherEmma · 03/12/2019 11:00

For Whattodo and others who struggle with over/under payments due to changes in earnings and other circumstances, you might find that UC works better for you than tax credits. UC gets a bad press but it can be better for some people, both in terms of getting slightly more and in terms of payments being more closely linked to monthly income. It's worth using an online benefit calculator or contacting/visiting Citizens Advice to check whether you'd be better off on UC.

Someonesayroadtrip · 03/12/2019 11:00

🤞 OP

@queenofoversharing

And for @sall74 at al - I had been living on the minimum benefits as a carer for a disabled child for years. It's not money for free! Fucking miserable twats.”

It IS money for free!

Rudolphsjinglebells · 03/12/2019 11:00

Really hope it's yours aswell!

Whatisthisfuckery · 03/12/2019 11:01

I had this a few years ago. DWP had put nearly 3k in my bank. I didn’t touch it and rang them. Seems they’d been under paying my ESA for years and were correcting the under payment. I made double triple sure and waited for the letter before I touched a penny.

changeforprivacy · 03/12/2019 11:02

Placemarking!

Slumberly · 03/12/2019 11:15

I don't understand why you're not ringing them to ask. This is like those pregnancy test threads where the OP inexplicably refuses to actually pee on the stick.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 03/12/2019 11:16

Fingers crossed it wasn't in error. Early Christmas present.

ChickenofDoom · 03/12/2019 11:16

NettleTea · 03/12/2019 11:22

ohdannyboy · 03/12/2019 11:22

has your post been - there should be a notification to back up the payment - may be arrears

chocolateisavegetable · 03/12/2019 11:26

Good luck OP!

Mrsemcgregor · 03/12/2019 11:26

Kittygirl working benefits are the government making up the fact that the minimum wage (and actually quite far above it) doesn’t cover the cost of soaring housing and child care costs. Imagine if no one did the lower paid jobs. No health care assistants, no bin men, no shop workers, no teaching assistants.

The backbone of this country don’t earn enough through their work to pay for the essentials of rent and childcare. My husband and myself don’t.

The alternative is an underclass of essential workers who have to live in work houses and never have children. Sounds lovely.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 03/12/2019 11:27

Several years ago I put in a claim for disability benefits, after my marriage broke up. We spent that Christmas in temporary accommodation, but were offered a council flat for just after the new year. Right before Christmas I got two four figure payments from the DWP, backdating payments to the beginning of my claim. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, as it meant I could get everything I needed for my new home, without getting into debt.

TheWildOnesNeverDie · 03/12/2019 11:27

No post today (except an electric bill)

Iv had to take my husband to a physio appointment which is why I haven’t called yet, for those of you snarking.
Am now ringing !
