Are the conservatives really this popular?

LabourHere · 02/12/2019 20:57

Listening to statistician on BBC who reckons the conservatives are head in all polls and will win a majority on election day.

I know only two people voting conservative (mil and dm). Who are all the other conservative voters??

Are the conservatives really going to win the election so easily?

If so...I'm very very sad Sad Wine

No I have not asked you the question it’s an interesting question to ask Corbyn supporters you don’t have to answer it others too are free to answer (as it’s an open forum)

And that is what you accused me of doing - which I found amusing

XingMing · 04/12/2019 16:41

Well, OP, have you got an answer? I've been keeping a rough count of the posts here for the Conservatives and Labour, and even allowing for the slight MN left-wing bias, it seems to favour a Tory win on 12 December.

Alsohuman · 04/12/2019 16:44

Let’s just cancel the election then @XingMing.

EntropyRising · 04/12/2019 16:48

The 163 economists could be better described as academics, or better still, left wing academics. I'd be surprised if any were employed in such a capacity that it matters if they're wide off the mark.

It's hardly surprising that the ones busy imprinting a favourable version of Marxism on today's youth support Corbyn, is it?

ArseDarkly · 04/12/2019 16:49

We can do a lot more austerity and close the deficit instantly if you like

'We'? Bit of a giveaway there eh Cendrillon?

How will you close the deficit if with another round of austerity when you haven't achieved it in 9 years? How Tories get their reputation as being trustworthy on the economy is one of the great mysteries.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/12/2019 16:51

Interesting that the questions as to whether posters will keep supporting Corbyn if they lose remain unanswered; I'd have thought it a reasonable question on such a thread, but it seems not to be welcome

Which is natural I guess, since Labour appear to be facing yet another defeat, but it remains a fact that many floating voters genuinely want a more moderate Labour party to vote for - and we're clearly not going to get it while Corbyn, McDonnell et al remain in charge

XingMing · 04/12/2019 16:55

Well, we could, AlsoHuman, but all the vote counters and returning officers would miss out on their bonus shift!

CendrillonSings · 04/12/2019 16:55

Going up against the extreme economic illiterates in Labour helps no end! Grin

mummmy2017 · 04/12/2019 16:58

We have a friend who never votes, ever, never has.
He just said he asked for a postal vote and voted Tory.

Xenia · 04/12/2019 16:59

My prediction is Corby won't win later this month and then the Labour party probably will want a younger leader and probably a woman (as they have never managed a woman as yet and the Tories have had two female PMs). Whether that will be from the right or left of the Labour party remains to be seen - it will depend on whether Labour ever want to have power again I suppose so I hope they choose another very left wing leader and we get in effect 10 More Years form next month. Hope so.

XingMing · 04/12/2019 16:59

Puzzled is about right. I see no marked enthusiasm for any party, except the LDs and the Greens perhaps, but there are awful lot of lifelong Labour voters who have turned their noses up at the current leadership and their idiocies. Which is not the same as saying I am keen on the current version of the Tories.

EntropyRising · 04/12/2019 17:02

Correct! They've said as much, I think the assumption is Rebecca Long Bailey, I personally like Jess Phillips much more provided she can stay off the subject of Brexit. Of course I'm not a party member so it's not for me to say.

Spamantha · 04/12/2019 17:04

I see BoJo is still merrily shitting on the bereaved families of the victims of the latest terrorist attack.
How... likeable
Like when he said 'fuck the families' of the 7/7 bombings.

That's our BoJo ROFL

Alsohuman · 04/12/2019 17:04

If I’m completely honest I think whichever way things go next week, the economy’s going to be well and truly fucked. It is worth noting that one of those economists - an American - has changed his mind about Labour’s spending since 2016.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/12/2019 17:34

I'm not sure that's a very healthy state of affairs though? No government gets everything right so we need a healthy opposition to help keep things in check, and frittering away their support doesn't exactly make that easier

There seems to be an impression among some on MN that if you're not behind Labour's every utterance then you're a rabid Tory, and IME it just isn't so. There are so many who simply want a decent choice, and right now we've not got one

crispysausagerolls · 04/12/2019 17:44

I’m amazed that more hasn’t been made or Corbyn saying terrorists should not necessarily have to serve their entire prison term...a day after people died in a terrorist attack where the attacker had not served his full prison term...

LexMitior · 04/12/2019 18:00

The only thing you can do is look at the party that on balance best represents your values and vote for them.

It will be a better thing for the country if there is a majority, because it will stop all this havering by politicians. I work with politicians and once they do have a majority, then you can get to work and deliver. The results are another matter...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/12/2019 18:24

TBH I'd have thought that a matter for the Shadow Home Secretary rather than Corbyn himself, but I've not seen much from her so far

Perhaps she's occupied making arrangements for her son's defence against the charges brought?

How many ‘average’ families do you know that spend £6,000 a year on rail season tickets?

Yet another indication that Labour are utterly out of touch with who the ‘average’ voter is.

crispysausagerolls · 04/12/2019 19:21

@Puzzledandpissedoff

What the actual fuck! Thanks for the link!!

Breathlessness · 04/12/2019 19:26

‘How many ‘average’ families do you know that spend £6,000 a year on rail season tickets’

That’s a South East thing. Those commuting into London aren’t all hedge fund managers.

Alsohuman · 04/12/2019 19:29

I know a plumber who spends the best part of £6k on their season ticket, as Breathlessness says, lots of people with ordinary jobs commute into London. And that number will increase with ridiculous London house prices.

Camomila · 04/12/2019 19:36

Lots and lots of people do Brighton to London everyday! It is usually just about worth it - DH is on just over 33k in London, the same job is around 22-24k in Brighton.

ReadtheSmallPrint · 04/12/2019 19:42

That’s a South East thing.

Exactly

This sums up Labour’s current problem.

Alsohuman · 04/12/2019 19:46

The plumber travels from Grantham, that was in the Midlands last time I looked. People commute from Doncaster, that’s in Yorkshire.
