To ask you for the best way to lose a stone

Really need to face up and lose the extra weight, also menopausal so may be harder? Anyway, was wondering whether it is best to join a slimming club or go it alone. Any advice gratefully received!

Someone will be along soon to say ‘eat less, move more’

I work best with a structure so am on WW. Almost lost a stone since the end of Sept. which is slow but I have had a lot is social events and also I refuse to eat fat free yoghurts!!

Anything you do will work if you're motivated enough.its keeping it off is hard.

I've lost a lot using myfinesspal, ie straightforward calorie counting, but am now stuck and struggling after 3 years - need a restart, might try a club this time. Others have lost more with slimming clubs but over a shorter time which might be harder to keep off. Very motivating though.

I think if you have to cook or eat with others, try a club.

I've dropped a stone-ish by leaving everything the same except at tea time, when I eat only what will fit in a cereal bowl instead of a big dinner plate. Seems to work. This was a load of steroid weight from having a flare of my Crohn's, so quite hard to shift when you're still weak after a flare up.

noodlenosefraggle · 02/12/2019 07:08

No idea, but Slimming World, while great if you have lots of weight to lose isn't that great for a stone in my experience. I had 3 stone to lose when I went, lost 2 stone quite easily then was stuck on the last stone. My group was full of people who had a last stone to do it but just couldn't do it.

Oysterbabe · 02/12/2019 07:09

Intermittent fasting is the only thing that I can stick to. Horses for courses I think.

Hellofromtheotherside2020 · 02/12/2019 07:14

This isn't the best way to lose a stone, but it's what I do when I want to get motivated.

I spend 5 days eating 800 calories each day, then the final two days I eat 1200. I then go on to do intermittent fasting until I reach my goal (my fasting days are usually 500 calories).

As I said though, not the best way to lose weight - the Intermittent fasting isn't bad (actually has proven health benefits), but I can never quite get into the zone unless I've had that first week being so regimented. I usually lose around 5-6lbs that first week.

My fitness pal is amazing

TARSCOUT · 02/12/2019 07:27

Oh my gosh, this thread just might be the one for me. Even through menopause, been to SW and have crohn's! So I have 5 stones to loose which after the menopause is darn near impossible! Who is with me on the 16:8? That's the only thing I have left to trySmile

Charley34 · 02/12/2019 07:53

I've lost 5 stone on slimfast and calorie counting exercise bike daily, 4 more to go !

CardsforKittens · 02/12/2019 07:56

I don’t lose weight unless I exercise. Recently I’ve also found I do best on a lower carb diet: no bread, rice, potatoes or pasta, but plenty of vegetables, cheese, meat etc. Feels like shit the first week but after that I’m never hungry. Until it’s someone’s birthday and I eat a piece of cake and I have to start from the beginning again. Wouldn’t work for everyone. I don’t lose weight fast, about a pound a week. Better for me than putting weight on though.

Sundaygirlz · 02/12/2019 07:57

Have a look for Team RH on Facebook/online. They have an app where it calculates your calories to make sure you're in a caloric deficit. You have to weigh and log all your food on My Fitness Pal which links across to the app to meet certain targets and make sure you get your steps in which you can say how many you can do. People's transformations are amazing!! I was following last year and lost a stone pretty quickly, just signed back up to lose the baby weight!

PurpleDaisies · 02/12/2019 07:58

For me, exercise and eat more vegetables and lean protein with measured carbs. A stone isn’t that much. Are you close to a normal bmi?

Devereux1 · 02/12/2019 08:02

'Fast' at 800 calories one or two days a week.
Leave 10+ hours with no food each night, ie eat earlier supper or have no breakfast.
Exercise - go to classes or Youtube them in your living room.
Smaller plates, smaller portions.
Don't eat junk.
Don't eat fat-free anything, they load up on sugar to compensate, which is worse.

Do this and it is literally impossible not to lose weight.

myidentitymycrisis · 02/12/2019 08:09

@Charley34
Well done! That is fantastic

myidentitymycrisis · 02/12/2019 08:10

I go low carb and exercise

peachypetite · 02/12/2019 08:11

Cut out dairy

Runningonempty84 · 02/12/2019 08:12

Start running, stop drinking alcohol.
Eat healthy "normal" foods - no biscuits and sugary crap, just proper, nutritious, meals until you're full.
Sounds simplistic, but it works.

MsTSwift · 02/12/2019 08:12

Fast 800 lost stone and a half since Oct 8th

MsTSwift · 02/12/2019 08:13

Skip breakfast
No snacks except carrot or ryvita
Normal healthy meals on little plates
Exercise hate running I do turbo
Weights dropped off

StillRunningWithScissors · 02/12/2019 08:13

16:8 is what is working for DH and myself.

Feels easy to stick to once you get used to it, and if you have an off day, it's only a day.

Basically we just skip breakfast, eat lunch and dinner. Don't eat after dinner.

I've found I'm a lot less likely to snack now too.

Bluntness100 · 02/12/2019 08:14

Everyone is different and what works for them differs.

Personally I low carb, and find it the best for me.

KristinaM · 02/12/2019 08:16

I’ve lost 1.5 stone on LCHF and IF. Which was hard to shift as I was a healthy BMI to start with, but at the top end.

I’m happier just to do it alone, I wouldn’t enjoy classes or a programme.

puds11 · 02/12/2019 08:16

Lost 2.5 stone with my fitness pal and moderate exercise. I don’t really drink but do eat chocolate Blush It’s taken me 3 months so far, aiming to have lost the rest by Xmas.

Charley34 · 02/12/2019 08:17

Thank you myidentitymycrisis x

BoobsInHiding · 02/12/2019 08:22

Do you drink tea and coffee with sugar ? Cut out the sugar

Dont eat after 8pm

Eat breakfast lunch and dinner. If you like snacks or treats rather than having them mid morn or mid aft have them after a meal so that by the next meal you actually feel hungry

I did this and lost 3 stone and I was pretty much eating the same as before I lost weight just cutting any unecessary calories from sugar and evening snacking

Tobermory · 02/12/2019 08:24

The Norovirus 🤢

I was sick on and off for 12 hours and I’ve not eaten anything since. I feel terrible. I ache, have a temperature and no appetite.

But... on the plus side I reckon I might have lost a pound or two?! 👍
