To now prefer cats to dogs?

I grew up always having a dog (or two) in the house. But I recently acquired two mongrel cats. I love them. So clean, low maintenance, no shit in the garden to pick up. No incessant barking. No walks.

Instead I have:
Purring
Snuggles on my lap
Loving head butts
Silky soft fur
So symmetrical and pretty
Do their poos in the tray or outside

I'm definitely a cat convert.

YANBU, cats are far superior Grin
Nothing better than a head bump and their little paws kneading you!

Jinxed2 · 30/11/2019 23:01

Cats are awesome, I have 3. I do like dogs but they wouldn’t work as a pet for us.

MistyCloud · 30/11/2019 23:03

@Twixes

YANBU at ALL. You will get resistance on here though from the dog lovers.

Cats all the way for me. As you say, low maintenance, clean, no walkies, soft and purry and cute. Go and shit outside (or in the litter.) Cheap vet bills, cheap to feed etc. And they ARE loving and soft (my 2 are anyway!)

They are a perfect 'lazy person's' pet. Grin

Dogs are cute and all, faithful and fun to be with, but I think the novelty of a dog wears off very quickly. They are needy and whiny and they are a big commitment, and a real tie. They are also barky and smelly. You have to be really committed to want/have a dog.

YANBU!!!

MrsBobBlackadder · 30/11/2019 23:03

I always used to be a dog person. I was happy to announce this to anyone who would listen. I 'hated' cats.

Then i got two furry felines and they stole my heart 😍 cats rock. I love their don't-give-a-shit cattitude and the fact that they love m on their terms. They are ACE and I would never be without a puss again 😊

AfterSchoolWorry · 30/11/2019 23:04

Yanbu

Team cat all the way.

Dogs are fine. But smelly and needy. Don't mind them but i wouldn't want one. Especially any dog with an orangey/ brown stain around their mouth and similar weeping from the eyes, knocks me sick.

MrsBobBlackadder · 30/11/2019 23:04

*love me

bluetongue · 30/11/2019 23:04

YANBU. And I say that being a dog owner myself.

I love my dog but pretty sure I’ll be back to cats for any future pets.

HeatedDryer · 30/11/2019 23:05

I agree. Had a dog on a 2 week trial, it was awful. I mean the dog was lovely, didn't bother my 2 cats, but the dependency was too much. Cats are amazing and I'm sticking with them! 💕

Thescrewinthetuna · 30/11/2019 23:07

Cats are the best pet ever. As you say, low maintenance, cheap to feed and insure. Some are unsociable which suits some people but some are like my girl, she is such an affectionate baby it’s unreal. She comes bounding to greet whoever comes home and will snuggle up on our chests or shoulders. Absolutely adore her. Her little head bumps and sleepy purrs are the best! As I type this I’m lying across my bed and she’s curled up on my back Grin

Dogs are OK but I much prefer cats.

AfterSchoolWorry · 30/11/2019 23:08

Also so many dogs are ugly; terriers, alsations, little yappy ones particularly, toy breeds are nasty yokes.

I like maybe red setters. Collies, labs, retrievers etc.

Hate flat faced dogs. Ugly.

OrangeZog · 30/11/2019 23:13

I love my cats. 😻

Shooturlocalmethdealer · 30/11/2019 23:19

I think I'm going to being a cat converter also.
Dogs are hard work!
I will never have another dog.
I may get a cat eventually.
Very low maintenance.

MistyCloud · 30/11/2019 23:20

Yep I also do not get this 'cats are miserable/anti-sociable/don't need company' guff.

I have 2, and the younger one aged 10 is so cute and loving and soft and affectionate, and sleeps with me on the couch when I have a nap. She also comes running down the road when she sees me coming back from our little village shop - or from a walk.

The older one (12) is less fussy and affectionate, but still cute and loving sometimes.

It's a myth that cats don't need people, and don't need love. They do.

If you don't give it, they will leave you and go find some other owner (who WILL give them a lot of fuss!)

FaFoutis · 30/11/2019 23:21

YANBU
I could not have a dog again now I have children. Far too many needs to deal with. My two cats are no bother at all.

Aroundnabout1 · 30/11/2019 23:22

I love dogs from a distance but hate dog saliva on me and the thought of a puppy licking your face is grotesque (cats don't lick you), dog's stink (cat's dont smell and are self cleaning), dogs bark (cats meow is nowhere near as annoying). How do dog owners get used to having a smelly house?

YesItsMeIDontCare · 30/11/2019 23:25

No walkies?

Our last cat was my shadow, followed me to every room and was so affectionate. Never understood why people say cats are aloof. None Ive ever met have been. They are so cuddly.

CheshireChat · 30/11/2019 23:28

She's soft and cuddly and dealing with her (very basic) needs takes me maybe 5 min in a day so it doesn't matter if I'm ill or anything.

Seren85 · 30/11/2019 23:29

I grew up with dogs and always said I couldn't understand why people loved cats. I got scratched badly by my cousins kitten years ago and that was that. Then we really wanted a pet and a dog just wouldn't be a good pet for us, it'd be unfair to the dog. Decided to mention it to DH and he was practically in the car to cats protection. Turned out he'd wanted a cat for years but never mentioned it because I hated cats. Now I have a gorgeous, fluffy, sweet, cuddly ginger baby boy and I am a total cat lady.

Seren85 · 30/11/2019 23:30

@Aroundnabout1 my cat definitely licks. He seems to think I'm incapable of washing myself so must be groomed each evening after he's cleaned himself.

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/11/2019 23:31

My cats are ultra friendly lumps of cuddles, I have maine coons and I adore them. Although there is no way you could describe their paws as little, when they decide to knead you, you know alll about it.

madcatladyforever · 30/11/2019 23:32

My cat has been my constant loving companion for 18 years, I have survived many a trauma supported by her love.
I don't know what I'll do without her when she goes, well I do....I'll get another cat the same as I did the last 5 times.
Cats rock.

CheshireChat · 30/11/2019 23:32
