To now prefer cats to dogs?

I grew up always having a dog (or two) in the house. But I recently acquired two mongrel cats. I love them. So clean, low maintenance, no shit in the garden to pick up. No incessant barking. No walks.

Instead I have:
Purring
Snuggles on my lap
Loving head butts
Silky soft fur
So symmetrical and pretty
Do their poos in the tray or outside

I'm definitely a cat convert.

YANBU! Cats for the win!!

I love mine so much. I didn’t realise it was possible to love an animal as much as I love these two. I could just watch them all day and coo over them rolling around on the carpet showing off their stripy orange tummies to anyone who will look.

One is much more affectionate than the other but even she can still be jumpy if you go to clap her and she’s not expecting it. I like that they aren’t too needy in that sense though. Unlike dogs ...

I've always lived with cats. Four years ago I got a dog. I love that dog so much. She follows me around, waits by the back door if I go out, sleeps on the bed, put paws on my shoulders and gazes lovingly into my eyes. Dogs are just on a different level. I've still got 2 cats though.

YANBU. Cats are the best ❤️

AfterSchoolWorry · 30/11/2019 23:48

Oh, I do love a tabby and white! 💘💘💘

Can’t not post a picture of this beauty.

Oh, she's on a diet! DS calls her Santa cat Grin.

ferrier · 01/12/2019 00:01

Team cat here too. I have a dog who is lovely but requires much more upkeep and is not so loving and cuddly.

Cobblersandhogwash · 01/12/2019 00:03

I like dogs.

I didn't want one though.

Was emotionally blackmailed into getting one by dh. Then two, three, four dogs. Dh does nothing for them nor do the dcs.

I feel trapped by the dogs. I like them. I just don't like they way their needs dictate my time. I didn't even want them.

I have four cats too. 🐱 They are also quite needy and affectionate. So much easier. Cleaner.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 01/12/2019 00:03

I've always been a cat person, had cats all my life, love cats.

4 months ago I bought an 8 week old puppy home, I am a complete convert! Yes they're messy and a bit smelly but he just loves us so much, when I get in from work it's like I've been gone for months not a couple of hours!! You just don't get that from a cat.

beachygirl · 01/12/2019 00:06

My new little rescue cat is just purrfect. Clean, beautiful, snuggly, quiet, comes home when he is called and never jumps on worktops. Sleeps next to me on my bed, but never wakes me up, just cuddles until I get up. He never bites or scratches, is very gentle and just pats when he plays. Follows me round the house, he is an absolute darling and I love him to bits!

To be fair my dog is actually extremely clean and barely smells, sheds or barks. He even grooms himself like a cat! (he’s a whippet) but he’s still a dog with all the extra responsibility and neediness that’s entails.

IAmNotAWitch · 01/12/2019 00:41

Dogs just NEED too much.

My cat only gives, her needs are few and easily met.

beachygirl · 01/12/2019 00:51

Here he is.

I was always a dog person, but we are not really set up to be good dog owners, our flat is small, and we have no outdoor space, plus I'm finding it increasingly difficult to walk more than a few hundred yards so couldn't manage walking a dog.

I have a lovely cat now, he's easy to care for, loves a cuddle when he feels like it, and is a daft little funny thing too. Currently I am laying in bed on my side, and he's curled up asleep on my hip/waist. He'll move down to the bottom of the bed and snuggle himself under his blanket when I turn off the lamp. Smile I'm a definite cat convert.

Beautiful cats on here. I never got why women go mad over pictures of babies but if i see a picture of a cat, or one looking out of a window, i cant help finding them adorable.

LucaFritz · 01/12/2019 03:44

YANBU I'd take my cat over a dog any day now. I used to have many dogs years ago and was a dog lover but the current trend of irresponsible dog owners and unruly dogs everywhere makes me hate them now. I love that my cat doesn't jump at me with sharp claws and dirty feet she doesn't bark when the bell goes and doesn't leave muck and hair in her wake either. She leaves one neat poo a day in the litter tray for me to clean and keeps to herself unless she wants a cuddle on the sofa on an evening, we live in perfect harmony and she even follows basic commands which even some dogs can't master

WellbeingMyArse · 01/12/2019 06:36

Cat household here too.
They are a nuisance sometimes but we love them so much.

PurpleFlower1983 · 01/12/2019 06:46

YANBU

I am another cat convert after always having a dog growing up. Love dogs too but cats are so much easier, particularly if you’re working.

Titsntats · 01/12/2019 07:11

We have both here, 4 dogs and 2 cats. The cats are definitely lower maintenance and they rule the house. They all get along well and play together but I love them all equally Grin

ThisIsAllaMooPoint · 01/12/2019 07:34

@Aroundnabout1 mine is a licker!! When madam wants her breakfast I get woken up with nose nuzzles, then paw pats on my face and when those don’t work she licks my arm. While getting her food ready she licks my ankle and feet to get me to sort it out more quickly Grin

Scotinthenorth · 01/12/2019 07:45

Cats don’t give a shit about their owners. You feed them. That’s it. Never understood anyone who has a cat. Hate them

autumnboys · 01/12/2019 07:45

YANBU. We have one cat at the moment, but have had up to three in the past. DH’s family are all dog people - it seems like a very restrictive life to me, to be a decent dog owner, almost like having his a permanent newborn to care for.

frostedviolets · 01/12/2019 07:53

No, I'm going to go against everyone else and say I MUCH prefer dogs!

I have both and yes I do love the cat but I would never get another.
She is too destructive for me to really enjoy her as a pet.

My dog on the other hand, non destructive, she virtually never barks, she doesn't really smell, she isn't 'demanding' when it comes to walks, sleeps all day in the house.
She is a wonderful pet

DippyAvocado · 01/12/2019 08:01

DH wants a dog but it would be totally unsuitable for our lifestyle - both work full-time and wouldn't have time for all the walking. Cats are perfect. They amuse themselves sleeping when you're out but every cat I've owned has been very loving and affectionate whenever I'm home. Our cat comes straught out to see either the DC or I as soon as we get in then rarely leaves our sides. She sleeps on my feet at night. She poos in our garden and buries it so nothing to clean up. They are the perfect pet IMO!
