DH stuck on the M5... help!

It turns out DH's breakdown cover isn't worth a Mars Bar!

He's broken down on the M4/M5 junction.

They're sending out a recovery truck but he has to tell them where to tow him to which has to be a local garage.

Any recommendations??

I need to get the kids packed into the car to go and pick him up... not quite how any of wanted to spend Friday night.

It was daisychain01 that was nearly a write off, cannycat20.

Are you trying to put the scud on me? ConfusedHmmGrin

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 29/11/2019 21:57

Oh please tell us, OP, what did he say when you told him that Mumsnetters were driving past him? I think that’s hilarious and shows just how far and wide Mumsnetters are. Grin

NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 22:06

Grin I'll tell him when he gets in... I'll see if he'll sign bits of tin foil for eBay.

Hot bath when he gets in op x

Span1elsRock · 29/11/2019 22:17

We're just a bit north in Gloucestershire OP and it's bloody freezing here tonight, poor sod having to wait all that time. Glad he's homeward bound.

NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 22:26

I've put a blanket on the Rayburn and I've whipped up some mulled wine.

I feel like Nigella!

@T0tallyFuckedUpFamily - eeeeek again! but for different reasons!

I wouldn't wish a breakdown (especially not on that bit of the M5) on anyone....

Sorry @daisychain01 - eeeeeeekkkkk!! Sorry it happened, glad it wasn't worse.

Skyejuly · 29/11/2019 22:33

Ah the poor bloke I hope hes home soon!

NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 22:35

Car's at the mechanics and he's being dropped in our village soon... just one country lane to navigate but he's got his tin foil for high visibility!!

Aww glad he's en route. Mine used to do a 150 mile round trip commute and had a little survival kit in the boot with sleeping bag etc. Used to make me chuckle until the gearbox gave up (that annoyance is for another thread) one night on the motorway in a snowstorm.

Fortunately recovery was decent, though he had to walk the last half a mile as the truck couldn't get up the street in the snow. I'd like to say I learned from how prepared he was, but my boot still mostly consists of empty tins of de-icer and ripped bags for life Blush

Skyejuly · 29/11/2019 22:39

Haha! Hope it's not too long!

GabsAlot · 29/11/2019 22:41

Poor dh i saw a poor sod on a tv show stuck for 8 hours yes 8 in the bloody snow-even the Highways agencies said he shold get compensation-thats not on

Hope he enjoyed the mulled wine ands youve just reminded me to put a coat in the car

nonevernotever · 29/11/2019 22:41

Aww glad to hear he's nearly home. Though like the flashback /fetish idea too...

Thismummyruns · 29/11/2019 22:48

@NannaNoodleman

Just seen this thread and my first thought was what fun I would have with Xmas present ideas this Christmas...

Hope he's back safe & sound!

Scbchl · 29/11/2019 23:05

Goodness sake what alot of theatrics about "dragging the kids out".

OP I'd go get my dh too if I was in your situation, what a lot of nonsense being posted. People saying you are rescuing him and to grow a pair. Ridiculous comments. Its 80 miles each way, not the end of the earth..the kids will sleep and I'm sure her Dh will do the drive back.

SirVixofVixHall · 29/11/2019 23:10

Your poor DH ! It is so cold. I am glad he is almost home.

coolwalking · 30/11/2019 00:01

Enjoyed reading this thread! Glad all is well OP and ignore the strange comments.

BestOption · 30/11/2019 00:44

I do hope he’s home. Y now, warm & slightly worse for wear after the 🍷

My boot contains all kinds of useful stuff - people laugh because there’s never any room in the boot for shopping etc but they’ll be laughing the other side of their faces in an emergency when I can keep warm, eat, drink, do a puzzle and have a wee!

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 30/11/2019 03:03

What a thread! Better than eastenders and we’ll all be putting extra coats and tin foil in our cars now. Bravo Nanna and hubby!

eaglejulesk · 30/11/2019 03:57

So pleased to hear it all ended well - something for you both to laugh about now! I can't believe all the unhelpful, and unpleasant, responses however. Why do some people bother to get married if that's how they feel about their DHs?

Oblomov19 · 30/11/2019 04:57

Hope he's home safely now. Some of the earlier comments were nasty and 'unhelpful'!

SantasLittleHelper2019 · 30/11/2019 05:16

I too would have gone if necessary - can’t believe people would have not done so.

For me that is what marriage is about - having each other’s backs and making the hard times easier and looking after each other.

Love this image of you making mulled warm and warming a blanket for him. I am sure he will be so happy to be home with you tonight as you sound lovely.

Derbee · 30/11/2019 05:38

Can’t believe people are so up in arms about whether they’d pack the kids in the car and drive 160 miles.

Bizarre that people find it so charming for an adult to be so inept.

Choose shitty breakdown cover
Go out in winter without a coat
Phone your wife to sort out your situation from afar
Suggest your wife and kids drive 160 miles, rather than at least taking your 50 mile row closer to home.

My DP is an organised, fully competent adult with the intellectual and financial means to sort things like this out. I don’t think it’s funny or charming to be so useless.

At least it’s all worked out, by the sounds of it.

Legomadx2 · 30/11/2019 06:02

Haven't RTFT but how on earth did a grown man head out for a day's meetings hundreds of miles away from home in late November without a coat?

daisychain01 · 30/11/2019 06:34

Haven't RTFT but how on earth did a grown man head out for a day's meetings hundreds of miles away from home in late November without a coat?

It's an interesting question @Legomadx2 and I think it's true nowadays that there's a tendency not to think ahead or dress for anything other than the immediate, eg people on long walks up a mountainside wearing summer kit and no other protection against the elements. Overcoats appear to be a thing of the past!

Hope @NannaNoodleman DH is safely home from his M5 'adventure'
