DH stuck on the M5... help!

NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 17:45

It turns out DH's breakdown cover isn't worth a Mars Bar!

He's broken down on the M4/M5 junction.

They're sending out a recovery truck but he has to tell them where to tow him to which has to be a local garage.

Any recommendations??

I need to get the kids packed into the car to go and pick him up... not quite how any of wanted to spend Friday night.

I suggested staying in a hotel but he wasn't keen.

I haven't heard from him for about 20 minutes... so I don't know what he's doing!

is he really expecting you to drag two young kids out??

BustedDreams · 29/11/2019 18:19

NRFT you can join AA from roadside.

CrepuscularCritter · 29/11/2019 18:20

If he's near the interchange, he's presumably not far from Bristol Parkway station. That connects to the West Midlands and the South West with lots of other options changing at Bristol Temple Meads. Could he get closer to home to save you a big drive with the children?

Spitsandspots · 29/11/2019 18:20

Tell him you are less keen on sticking the kids in the car for 160 miles than him staying in a hotel.

Milanimilani · 29/11/2019 18:20

As a Dad, he needs to understand that isn’t keen is not good enough. You should not have to drag the children out.

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2019 18:21

How far away from home is he? Could he walk or get a cab to the station or something?

EleanorReally · 29/11/2019 18:22

try another breakdown

MoonahStone · 29/11/2019 18:26

I thought you'd already had a Friday night glass of wine so can't go out and pick him up Wink

MillieMoodle · 29/11/2019 18:26

If you've got a nationwide flexplus current account then you will have automatic break down cover - any chance you've got one?!

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 29/11/2019 18:26

Just get him as close to home as his breakdown cover will get him and then you can pick him up from there. So a 60 mile trip instead of a 160 mile trip.

Doesn't he have a mate who can go and pick him up?

Teateaandmoretea · 29/11/2019 18:28

Personally I'd just go, it seems unlikely that if it can't be fixed at the roadside it will be fixed tomorrow. The kids will sleep in the car. Yes I wouldn't want to collect him but I wouldn't want to waste my day tomorrow collecting him either. Only thing I thought is can he get a hire car? I bet the idiot has left his license at home too hasn't he? 🙄

Teateaandmoretea · 29/11/2019 18:29

Doesn't he have a mate who can go and pick him up?

Why is it less bad to send a mate to get him? I'd see myself as a (very unwilling) first line responder here sadly. Not least because he'd come and get me

LuckySeventhWave · 29/11/2019 18:30

He just needs to google a local garage and even if it’s shut the car gets dropped there.

Your husband needs to then get a taxi to a local hotel or make his way home by train.

Pretty sure the tow truck bloke would drop him off at a train station, bus station or taxi rank anyway if he asked.

He’s a grown up. Let him sort it out himself, you have the kids to look after.

Span1elsRock · 29/11/2019 18:30

Can he get a train closer to home? He won't be far from Bristol Parkway.

NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 18:30

We do have a nationwide account... I think it's normal flexaccount though

OP posts:
NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 29/11/2019 18:30

Less bad to ask a mate because

a) that wouldn't involve kids being taken out into the cold and
b) that's what mates do for each other

Autumnfresh · 29/11/2019 18:31

They won't leave him on the motorway - no matter what membership he's got.

NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 18:31

Urgh... flex direct, flex account and a credit card ... bugger

OP posts:
Teateaandmoretea · 29/11/2019 18:31

that's what mates do for each other

I think it's more what partners do for each other in my circles.

NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 18:34

Didn't even think of hiring a car!! I'm sure he keeps his licence in his wallet.

OP posts:
NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 18:35

The recovery service are dropping him at Gordano services.

The plonker hasn't got a coat or anything!!

He's going to call the RAC from there and he's hoping they'll be able to fix the car. If not he'll see if he can pay for an 80 mile tow.

OP posts:
NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 29/11/2019 18:36

Really Teateaandmoretea? In the circles you mix in they wouldn't pick up a mate who had broken down on the motorway? Blimey.
