DH stuck on the M5... help!

NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 17:45

It turns out DH's breakdown cover isn't worth a Mars Bar!

He's broken down on the M4/M5 junction.

They're sending out a recovery truck but he has to tell them where to tow him to which has to be a local garage.

Any recommendations??

I need to get the kids packed into the car to go and pick him up... not quite how any of wanted to spend Friday night.

I'm amazed at all the people who think the world will end if their children have to go out in the evening. They would probably find it really excited. If not, they would probably sleep. If not, they can lie in or have a nap tomorrow. If not, they can go to bed early tomorrow night...

This.

Carlamity · 29/11/2019 20:02

We're on the M5 going south. DH spotted a man with tin foil blanket on the hard shoulder a while back at Bristol so guess that was your DH! Hope the recovery turns up soon .... at least the motorway is unusually clear for a Friday night.

Haffdonga · 29/11/2019 20:04

Can you imagine the outrage on MN if somebody told us they were stuck on the side of a motorway and their spouse had told them to grow up or grow a pair? It would be seen as abuse and definitely grounds to LTB.

I'm so pleased your poor dh is getting picked a lift all the way.

ShinyRuby · 29/11/2019 20:04

Your poor dh, I hope he's safely home soon & you all have a nice w/e.

retiredand · 29/11/2019 20:06

He's covered in tin foil on the hard shoulder Grin

Sorry op, that made me laugh, trussed up like the Xmas turkey.

Why on earth did he go out in this weather without a coat?!

ActualHornist · 29/11/2019 20:07

Can you imagine if we could have one thread where we didn’t get someone coming on to say ‘can you imagine what would happen if it was a woman saying this?’

BanjoStarz · 29/11/2019 20:07

Hope he’s picked up soon OP.

I can’t believe the amount of people who would go help they’re partner out in a situation like this.

And the level of dramatisation is astonishing, it’s 80 each way, on a fairly normal winter night...do people really see that as dragging their kids hundreds of miles? I wouldn’t even have thought about it!

ActualHornist · 29/11/2019 20:08

I quite often go out without a coat if I’m driving door to door @retiredand. I never drive with a coat on so I don’t really think of it!

BanjoStarz · 29/11/2019 20:08

*wouldnt go help!

Sorry!

TalullahDingleberry · 29/11/2019 20:09

RAC will tow beyond 50 miles, you just have to pay per mile above that. I know because they towed me over 500 miles once.

Smelborp · 29/11/2019 20:12

Good news that he’ll be towed home - just hope they hurry up for him now!

LagunaBubbles · 29/11/2019 20:15

How does he feel about being rescued?
Or can he simply grow a pair

Jesus what a completely nasty and uncalled for comment. People in normal healthy relationships that happen to love each other can help each other when needed.

FixTheBone · 29/11/2019 20:18

If you're going to go all the way out to pick him up, can you tow his car back with you?

Zoflorabore · 29/11/2019 20:18

We broke down on the M25 after attending my brother’s wedding in Essex 8 years ago. We are from Liverpool and were about 10 minutes into the journey home.
It was torrential rain and we had a 4 month old baby and 8yr old ds who has ASD. It was petrifying.

Highways agency stopped and gave us ponchos and extra blankets and I had to feed baby dd on a hill at the side of the embankment. We were advised to get out of the car instantly as it’s so dangerous to remain in the car. We were rescued by the AA after a few hours and taken all the way home.

It’s one thing we’ve always been glad of having. Not worth the risk when travelling esp long distances.
We left Essex at 12 noon and got back to Liverpool at 12 midnight. Driver had to take regular breaks and there was a long delay in teaching us but we were so grateful.

I hope your DH is home soon and sorts out some decent breakdown membership.

TryingToBeBold · 29/11/2019 20:19

These things happen. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. it's a cold night, I hope he gets home soon. I'm glad he's being took home.

retiredand · 29/11/2019 20:19

@ActualHornist stick an old coat in your boot then! Or get your tinfoil on on the m6 Grin

feelingsinister · 29/11/2019 20:19

That's outrageous that they've left him there for so long, apart from it being cold and dark it's also really dangerous.

Hope he's home soon.

NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 20:19

@Carlamity how funny you saw my DH! You could've wanged a bag of KFC out the window to him!

OP posts:
NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 20:21

He's originally from the north so he often wears shorts and t-shirt in January! A coat is very rare.

Andysbestadventure · 29/11/2019 20:22

Get RAC cover for the 50miles. Then Emergency AA cover for the rest home 😁

user1497997754 · 29/11/2019 20:22

Try Weston recovery service

NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 20:23

I don't think I want to tow a car... I've never towed anything.

Anyway... he's getting towed home by the shit recovery service now.

OP posts:
user1497997754 · 29/11/2019 20:23

01934 517021 they do 24 hour recovery

NannaNoodleman · 29/11/2019 20:24

I might advise him to keep his tin foil blanket in his boot.
