To think its ridiculous that Johnson sent his Dad ...

Johnson sent his Dad and Gove to the channel4 leaders' debate on climate change instead of going himself. Channel 4 empty chaired him with an ice sculpture.

Is he worried he would show how incompetent he is? God help us trying to influence other nations if he is elected with an outright majority.

He doesn't want to be interviewed by Andrew Neil.
He hasn't released the Russian report.
He lies about the NHS
He lies about nurse numbers
He lies about the time it will take to get Brexit done.

And still he will probably win the election.

fromdownwest · 28/11/2019 22:45

@StoneofDestiny - Yet people can trust a man who is unable to accurately provide any ounce of credibility around funding his magical spending spree

Fr0g · 28/11/2019 22:45

An ice sculpture - how long did it last under tV lights?
Would love BJ and Farage to melt away, never to be seen or geard of again.

StarClaws · 28/11/2019 22:46

Partisan politics and tribalism is so ridiculous. Look, if Corbyn had done this, he'd rightly get called out for it by opposition voters. So let's not try to defend Boris for it just because you may vote for him. The man is [quite clearly very very] fallible.

user1471510720 · 28/11/2019 22:47

None of the leaders, with the worst being Caroline Lucas care about the planet, it’s rhetoric, complete and utter rhetoric. They care first and foremost about power, always power first. I learnt that long ago and it was true then and even truer now.

None of these debates achieve anything other than the media goes into meltdown.

Considermesometimes · 28/11/2019 22:48

What a non story.

curlykaren · 28/11/2019 22:55

I'd like to think we'd reached 'peak delusion' from conservative voters, but apparently not. I really hope none of you actually had Daddy pay for your education, it wasn't worth it!

@chomalunga.

  1. Who would, the others leaders got destroyed and have lost all credibility.
  2. Russian report is like impeachment, a political ploy by the opposition to cast doubt, nothing more and there is nothing there.
  3. Every party lies about NHS, it’s finished basically, they all know it but won’t admit it. Why would they?
  4. Yes every party lies about numbers, take your pick it’s a lie.
  5. I guess you know because your track result on writing is sky high.

And hopefully your right because any other leader will likely plunge us into a world of economic disaster.

cdtaylornats · 28/11/2019 23:02

Seriously, how did he think he could send his Daddy to do his job!

Probably because he sensibly doesn't see pandering to channel 4 and discussing a subject he isn't an expert in with other non-experts as his job.

Beveren · 28/11/2019 23:08

Maybe BJ couldnt go

Of course he could. In an election, they make the party leader available whenever they need to.

Why should Boris Johnson turn up for Channel 4, when Dorothy Byrne, their head of news and current affair called him a 'known liar'?

But everyone calls him a known liar. Because, absolutely incontrovertibly, that's what he is. It doesn't stop him going on any other TV or radio programme.

Actionhasmagic · 28/11/2019 23:09

Ducking outrageous

longwayoff · 28/11/2019 23:11

He's an arrogant disgrace and those of you voting for him will be able to repent at leisure. Unfortunately, so will the rest of us. And it is NEVER good to see Gove whether in his own right or representing the man he deemed unsuitable to be Prime Minister not so long ago. Charlatans, chancers and con men.

Beveren · 28/11/2019 23:12

Probably because he sensibly doesn't see pandering to channel 4 and discussing a subject he isn't an expert in with other non-experts as his job

He isn't an expert in anything (except serial shagging, lying and racism). That doesn't stop him from discussing all the other topics he isn't an expert in.

Notodontidae · 28/11/2019 23:13

And that was a party political broadcast on behalf of the Labour Party

HoldNose · 28/11/2019 23:18

Every party lies about NHS, it’s finished basically, they all know it but won’t admit it. Why would they?

State pension and environment too, it's all a matter of time.

NameChangeNugget · 28/11/2019 23:18

We’ll see who actually gives a shiny shit about this on December 12th

HoldNose · 28/11/2019 23:22

Capitalism and communism failed.

Our systems, society and planet are all slowly dying.

Bluerussian · 28/11/2019 23:29

You're not unreasonable. I didn't see the debate so can't comment on the content but, generally speaking, Stanley is streets ahead of his son, Boris.

theflushedzebra · 28/11/2019 23:32

That's the thing, NameChangeNugget - Boris looks to get in on Dec 12th - but nearly everyone -political parties and voters - are ignoring the most vital issue facing us all.

Perhaps Boris thinks - in a short-term political way - that he can ignore this for a few more years. But we can't. We have a few precious years to act for the sake of our children. I am that close to lying down in Oxford St with Exctintion Rebellion - and I'm a person that has never done that sort of thing in her life, I have a nice life with a nice house and 3 children. But also - I have 3 children. And approx 10yrs to save the planet they live on. Do people seriously believe this is a hoax? I'd be really pleased if it was.

JaniceBattersby · 28/11/2019 23:36

Part of,the job of the prime minister of the UK is to be publicly accountable and to be open to scrutiny from the media who are given access to politicians to ask the questions that the public want to know the answers to. It’s not ‘pandering to the demands of Channel 4’, it’s a basic function of the job.

Boris Johnson has already disallowed The Mirror from boarding his battle bus because he didn’t like their coverage, he’s refused to be interviewed by the foremost political journalist of our time Andrew Neil and he’s refused to appear in a major debate on climate change. The message is clear to the press - do what I say or else I won’t speak to you. It’s such a dangerous threat to the freedom of the press which is a cornerstone of our democracy.

Honestly, politics aside, I have no idea how anyone can vote for Boris Johnson. He’s Trump-lite. It’s not going to end well.

HoldNose · 28/11/2019 23:38

Do people seriously believe this is a hoax?

All we can do is leave the planet in a good state for survivors, carry on living as best we can during the decline. I believe it's too late for most of us.

What is the lifespan of a tree, they can't lock up all the CO2 for long enough.

What are people going to do with their money in the meantime, keep buying stuff and traveling?

Confused
slartibarti · 29/11/2019 08:30

...and he’s refused to appear in a major debate on climate change.

Major debate, really?? Did you watch it?
It was a pointless waste of everyone's time.

MaybeTomorrowMaybeNot · 29/11/2019 08:48

YANBU, OP. It worries me that we're moving into a post-Trumpian state of affairs where people believe that the media owe leaders fawning coverage, rather than doing their real job of scrutinizing power. We used to be proud of the fact that our political interviewers were attack dogs. Now we're supposed to accept that the PM is so important that he might deign to turn up and grace everyone with his presence so we can find out more about what kind of man we're electing, but only if he feels like it, and if the media draw negative inferences then they're DISGUSTING BIASED FAKE NEWS MEDIA.

(It shouldn't need saying but I can't stand Jeremy Corbyn either so I'm not coming from a place of party loyalty).

Oh, and I think posters who are claiming that there are no votes in climate change might be surprised. My mother adored Thatcher, still thinks that people on benefits are scum, didn't want working-class kids to be allowed into her kids' nice middle-class grammar school because they'd "ruin" it, thinks that only white middle-class women can be good mothers. But she's said that this time she's voting for the party with the best green policies because the environment is her priority. Even people who've voted entirely on self-interest all their lives eventually reach the point where they know they'll be leaving the world to their grandkids soon.

MaybeTomorrowMaybeNot · 29/11/2019 08:54

I have to admit that the fact that there are people who worship Boris Johnson and can't hear a word against him completely bemuses me. Vote for him because he's not Corbyn? OK, I understand that. But he's clearly a very, very flawed political figure. He won't even give you your Brexit if he ever decides that it's in his interests to stab you in the back.
