To think its ridiculous that Johnson sent his Dad ...

Johnson sent his Dad and Gove to the channel4 leaders' debate on climate change instead of going himself. Channel 4 empty chaired him with an ice sculpture.

Is he worried he would show how incompetent he is? God help us trying to influence other nations if he is elected with an outright majority.

Gove in not environment minister, it's Theresa Villiers. So no, not a good choice.

And yes to be fair , I missed that Stanley was an audience member. But him offering to take Boris Johnson's place shows lack of judgement runs in the family.

Why should Boris Johnson turn up for Channel 4, when Dorothy Byrne, their head of news and current affair called him a 'known liar'?

"Responding to the remarks, made by Ms Byrne as she delivered the annual MacTaggart lecture, a Number 10 source said: "It's disappointing to see the head of a supposedly impartial news organisation decide to use deliberately inflammatory language to make a strong political statement."

head of news and current affairs

RandomAmanda · 28/11/2019 20:47

'Ugh I don't wanna go to work today. Muuuuum! Ring work for me and tell them I'm sick.'

Loopytiles · 28/11/2019 20:47

Well he IS a “known liar”.

Truth trumps impartiality.

HappyHammy · 28/11/2019 20:47

Card. sorry cant link on my phone but it's on The Express and The Telegraph news site

Theworldisfullofgs · 28/11/2019 20:49

Clavinova All the more reason to turn up and prove them wrong (which would be difficult - hospital funding).

AutumnCrow
Stanley was invited to be an audience memmer [sic]

No need for the Channel 4 editor to tweet "sorry" then.

And no, I'm not a bot - I just 'googled' - easily done.

LapisJewel · 28/11/2019 20:50

What will we say to our Grandkids, if Johnson is elected, and we've bequeathed a barely habitable planet.

This is the Climate Election.

Alsohuman · 28/11/2019 20:52

Why should Boris Johnson turn up for Channel 4, when Dorothy Byrne, their head of news and current affair called him a 'known liar'?

Because it was a leaders’ debate - clue’s in the name - and he’s leader of the fucking Conservatives. Hope this running away from scrutiny costs him a lot of votes. Who does he think he is? Arrogant tosser.

Outsomnia · 28/11/2019 20:54

Doesn't really matter.... Anyone can see,

Tories will win so get with the next five year program. Ugh. sorry now, but the electoral system FPTP is anti democratic, full stop.

Nothing can be done at this time, but going forward I think things must change to reflect something other than a two party State.

Does anyone agree with me?

Clavinova · 28/11/2019 20:55

Hope this running away from scrutiny costs him a lot of votes.

Personally, I think climate change emergency is less of a vote winner than some people think/hope.

frumpety · 28/11/2019 20:56

Probably because noone in their right mind would go on the absolute biased joke news show of channel 4 news and set themseves up.

But Boris Johnson is intelligent right ? with lots of equally intelligent and clever advisers , so with a few hours notice, he should be able to fend off the worst the media can throw at him on this subject.

Downton57 · 28/11/2019 20:57

He is utterly unfit to be PM. I am staggered that so many people support him. He is a known liar. There's no arguing with that.

Kyvia · 28/11/2019 20:57

Personally, I think climate change emergency is less of a vote winner than some people think/hope.

Probably. It’s not a vote decider for me, because I think we’re pretty much fucker either way. But the behaviour of Johnson however..... that is a vote loser.

slartibarti · 28/11/2019 21:06

Hope this running away from scrutiny costs him a lot of votes.
I don't think it'll lose him any votes.

nobodyimportant · 28/11/2019 21:06

He is a "known liar" though so why should that not be mentioned?

frumpety · 28/11/2019 21:10

If you dare not appear on a news programme in your own country for fear of being asked some tricky questions , what hope does the country have in getting a fantastic FTA with you in charge ?

frumpety · 28/11/2019 21:16

Everyone knew that he wouldn't be up for a job where he actually had to work and put the hours in. He isn't exactly renowned for his work ethic. He is renowned for doing as little as he can get away with and telling great big fibs. Facing the music isn't in his skill mix either. Great after dinner speaker by all accounts, right now, he probably wishes he had stuck to that Grin

PerkingFaintly · 28/11/2019 21:17

Even if Johnson senior was there to be in the audience... In what possible universe can it be OK for either of them to suggest him standing in for his son, the Prime Minister?

It wasn't ribbon cutting, it was a serious debate about a major issue, to which leaders of other parties turned up.

What goes in the Johnson family, that any of them thought this remotely clever? Is Stanley going to be popping up in Boris's stead at trade negotiations, because he'd come along for the sightseeing anyway and Boris is "unavailable" with a sore tummy from all those cream scones?

WTAF?

tttigress · 28/11/2019 21:21

You are voting for a party not a person, it is a good idea to see different members of the teat

everythingisginandroses · 28/11/2019 21:22

Alexander J. is a massive arse.

Alsohuman · 28/11/2019 21:22

Some of you have very low standards. Politicians are public servants, they’re supposed to be accountable. We pay their fat salaries.

slartibarti · 28/11/2019 21:26

Ch 4 and advertisers will be pissed off. Love him or hate him, BJ draws the crowds and viewing figures will be down if he's not there.

theEnglishInpatient · 28/11/2019 21:29

do you even know who his dad is (and was)? It's not exactly a random choice as you are trying to make it up.

His mum would have been an odder choice - even if she actually is quite a sharp and educated woman.
