This one ->

www.itv.com/news/2019-11-27/jeremy-corbyn-says-uncensored-documents-show-nhs-is-part-of-toxic-post-brexit-trade-talks-with-us/

I had already decided to vote for the conservatives, mainly because I couldn't bring myself to vote for any of the others who seem hell bent on gleefully ripping up womens rights. I've always voted so abstaining/spoiling wasn't an option.

But after reading/watching the above I think I am going to switch to voting labour. We are a disabled family, and could never afford to pay for healthcare (and I doubt insurance would touch us with a barge pole).

I don't like Momentum/Corbyn really but I'd rather complain and fight for my right to a single sex ward than not be able to use one at all

Re: brexit I voted remain in the last referendum but to be honest just have fatigue about the whole thing, so I'm not basing my vote on any of that. (Though seems a second vote isn't that terrible an idea).

Just posting because I can't see anything on here about this yet and I've gone from feeling quietly confident that Conservatives would win to feeling nervous about it now. Anyone else?

This thread epitomises everything that’s brought us to this nadir in British politics. Name calling, refusal to listen to anyone else’s point of view, complete unwillingness to concede an inch, constant accusations of lying and demonisation of the other side. I despair, I really do. If this is what we’re like, frankly we deserve everything we get.

HarrietTheFly · 27/11/2019 20:28

I really don't know who to vote for. They all seem shit. I want to vote for the least shit one but I don't know who that is.

emilybrontescorsett · 27/11/2019 20:35

I think the Tories will have an outright win.
I can categorically say that as a working person, I've always been financially worse off under a Tory government.
That's without any consideration about public services.
The Nhs does need reforming.
We can't keep funding it and people can't expect to receive everything free.
I would make reforms and slim down what the nhs pays for.

Deathgrip · 27/11/2019 20:37

Which is a strong negotiating position for the UK to be in. So, I see it the other way round - we're not selling the NHS to the US, it's about the US selling to the NHS.

And what happens the next time a US pharmaceutical company increases the price of a medication (for which we can’t access a generic due to changes we agree in order to nab the deal) by 5000%?

We will not be in a strong negotiating position whatsoever. The US can and will play hardball.

As for Reddit, Laura Kuenssberg’s first grasping criticism of Corbyn is that the documents have been available on Reddit at that link for a month, which does suggest they match the documents given to the press. The quotes also match the quotes being used by the press who have copies. But of course it’s impossible to verify 100% at this stage that they’re the same documents.

I’m afraid I have to disagree on that US documents, I don’t think it’s as benign as you do. Clearly they won’t be explicit about their intentions in such a document.

@HateIsNotGood
The USA pharma companies can already offer to sell drugs to the NHS.
The NHS can already buy the drugs it wants.

The difference is currently there is price capping that the NHS has chosen and it can choose cheaper alternatives if it wishes.

The change in trading agreements is to give the NHS less choice not more.

Our family owes our lives to the nhs. Post cancer , lifelong disability & ongoing illness mean getting health insurance would be impossible
A conservative government would render us bankrupt and homeless with their Blackdoor privatisation plans
After a life time of working why should our home have to be sold to pay just to survive
Being ill is hard enough but the added stress they are proposing is terrifying

Deathgrip · 27/11/2019 20:43

Precisely. As Dispatches highlighted

curlykaren · 27/11/2019 20:43

So is it just labour voters that are thick as shit cultists? Or are these 160 economists and academics equally deluded?

dreichthanksgiving · 27/11/2019 20:44

I agree with @emilybrontescorsett the NHS does need reforming, sliming down and perhaps some charges for non attendance with cancellation.

Higher drug costs won't help at all.

dreichthanksgiving · 27/11/2019 20:45

Without cancellation.

Deathgrip · 27/11/2019 20:46

Sorry, accidentally posted.

The NHS used to prescribe American drug Humira at a cost of £450m per year. Because of our ability to prescribe generics, we’ve switched to one, saving £150 million per year.

Humira is an expensive example, but this is replicated across so many drugs. Losing that ability would cost a fortune (£27bn by Dispatches estimation)

curlykaren · 27/11/2019 20:46

And this conservative commentator, who spends his time cataloguing Boris Johnson's lies, has clearly been indoctrinated into the Corbyn cult.

dreichthanksgiving · 27/11/2019 20:48

Ironically living in the USA I hear Donald Trump talk quite a lot about reducing drug costs for USA citizens.

It has occurred to me that getting another huge market to pay more might be one way he could persuade USA pharmaceutical companies to do this.

WrenNatsworthy · 27/11/2019 20:48

My husband works in the public sector. I had rare cancer earlier this year which has a 50% chance of spreading.
The NHS is my only hope.

If I wake up to a Conservative Government on 13th December, I'm likely to die sooner, and with less dignity. I have an 11 year old.
I joined The Labour Party last week and am going out on the campaign trail soon.

colouringinpro · 27/11/2019 20:56

Already, my severely ill ds is not receiving the NHS help he needs. I am terrified of what will come with another Tory government. Sad

curlykaren · 27/11/2019 20:58

@WrenNatsworthy 💟 please take care of yourself.

pourmeanotherglass · 27/11/2019 21:00

I work for the NHS. I know NO-ONE in my department that would vote conservative. Im not a huge Corbyn fan ( I'm a Labour party member but voted for Yvette Cooper as leader) but I'd rather him than Tory lies and underfunding. In my constituency its between Tory and Labour so I wouldn't risk voting Lib Dem or Green.

anxiousbean · 27/11/2019 21:02

My son is reliant on an expensive medication currently paid for by the NHS (the one in the Dispatches programme). Without it - he is in constant pain and can hardly get out of bed. He is 16.

I am terrified of this US-UK trade deal - I don't think the UK will be able to resist the US demands on drug pricing and healthcare market access and politically our government will have to go through with it as they have made such a song and dance about how easy trade deals are going to be post-Brexit. The current incarnation of the Conservative party (Dominic Raab, Priti Patel etc) are ideologically committed to private healthcare and free market economics.

I am not a Corbyn fan but in this case I am definitely more terrified of a Conservative majority government so am praying that people vote for anybody else.

SciFiRules · 27/11/2019 21:05

I can't belive that someone up post stated that the "US want to sell to the NHS and that is a good thing". The US can sell to the NHS already! The US want to sell to the NHS on US terms, fixing prices high and baring other pattern makers from supply. How can this be seen as a good idea?

HateIsNotGood · 27/11/2019 21:06

Yes, I see why some might be concerned about more expensive medicines and I do generally repect C4 Despatches. However, the words 'could', 'may' and 'fear' were also included in the linked article and not 'done', 'dusted' and 'deal'.

Therefore, these are just negotiating 'positions'.

It is somewhat unfortunate that Labour feels that it is fine to unnecessarily fan the fears of the many sick and vulnerable who rely on the NHS to keep alive, just to try and score some pre-GE political points.

dreichthanksgiving · 27/11/2019 21:09

I agree @HateIsNotGood that they are negotiating positions and not done deals.
The relative power difference between ourselves and the USA should be of concern when considering any trade deal.
When Trump says America first he means it.

JKScot4 · 27/11/2019 21:19

@17million
Are you on glue?
The BBC openly favour the Tories! They even edited out the audience laughing at Johnson to applause.

Deathgrip · 27/11/2019 21:23

However, the words 'could', 'may' and 'fear' were also included in the linked article and not 'done', 'dusted' and 'deal'

Well of course not - because we are still in the EU and therefore could not make such a deal. Why do you think Johnson was so insistent on being out by the end of October?

SteelRiver · 27/11/2019 21:27

Disability and how it affects our lives really should affect the choices we make. It's all encompassing to me. I wouldn't blame you for changing your vote in this instance.

langdale2016 · 27/11/2019 21:41

I was a conservative voter but I am now am going to vote Labour because I really believe in the NHS and the fact that university fees for students should be abolished.
