Are there a disproportionate amount of Scots on MN?

AIBU in thinking there is a disproportionately large amount of Scots on MN? Before I continue, there is absolutely nothing 'wrong' with this, just an observation.

I very often see on the "what are you doing today" threads posted on a Sunday that they are going to the supermarket at 9am... where England and Wales don't have extended Sunday trading hours. Or lots of "I'll be voting SNP at the general election".

Anyone else noticed this? I wonder what the percentage of active users are English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish, and others?

I was born in the Henderson Memorial Nursing Home in Wick. That's definitely showing my age now! I don't think it has existed for many years now.

Francis Crawford you've just brought back so many memories. My aunties used to take me out for the day to Edinburgh and afternoon tea at the North British was always a highlight.

I remember getting the autographs of some of the Scotland rugby team in there once after they had been playing at Murrayfield. Andy Irvine was my hero!

Hi Scots fifer here good evening all Smile

IfWishesWereFishes · 27/11/2019 19:32

Hello fellow Fifer Smile

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 27/11/2019 19:35

The only thing with going to the shop at 9am is that you cant buy alcohol until 10am so you end up lingering near the drinks aisle looking a bit shady!

I was at Tesco one Sunday & when the checkout operator scanned my wine she pulled it back & I got a wee flush of excitement thinking "oh she's going to ID me" but nope... it was 9:58am & too early to buy the damn stuff!

Looks like this will be appreciated here

Another Bellshill baby here :)

Now in Glasgow, and will be voting Labour.

Love seeing who all the fellow Scots are on here!

supercee · 27/11/2019 19:47

Squeakymumtime · 27/11/2019 19:51

MaxNormal · 27/11/2019 19:53

Another wave from South Lanarkshire.

prettybird · 27/11/2019 19:58

Glasgow here Smile Brought up in Bearsden/Milngavie so dh tells me I'm not a true Glaswegian Wink (was actually born in South Africa).

Dh was born in Rotten Row (but is a South Sider - and that where we still are I've lived/been with him for 25 years Smile) and ds was born in the Queen Mum's (I chose to go there rather than the Southern as my dad used to work in Yorkhill).

19 year old ds was shocked when he was sent to Birmingham on a training course to find that shops weren't open on a Sunday Shock

I don't think there's a disproportionate amount of us, it's just that we say where we're from so we don't get accused of telling porkies about supermarket or schools! Whereas other folk don't feel the need. I'm sure if everyone who posted said their location there would just be a normal percentage of us from north of the border.
Or something. That made a lot more sense in my head. Grin

Mrsjayy · 27/11/2019 20:11

Big I meant big

selfhelpneeded · 27/11/2019 20:15

@prettybird I'm from bearsden and after a brief stint in the west end settled back here. We're still Glaswegians Grin no one knows where bearsden is anyway.

weebarra · 27/11/2019 20:16

DH used to work with Andy Irvine!

AnneKipanki · 27/11/2019 20:18

My friend who worked in Dumfries used to think people were swearing when they said they had missed the Fechan bus 😂

SimpleAndPlanned · 27/11/2019 20:19

Guess what makes Scottish people vote SNP ... when English people act like we are aliens.

Plus is dark, cold and wet up here so we probably spend more time online!!

derxa · 27/11/2019 20:22

@Derxa it's not a very country is it 😁 It certainly isn't.
I met DH at a wedding in Glasgow. It turned out he went to school in the next town to me. And then it turned out that his parents rented a house just across the road from the farm I'm in now when he was a baby. We scattered MIL's ashes in the field opposite that house. The sheep didn't seem to mind Grin

ooooohbetty · 27/11/2019 20:23

I live in England and in my town we have 2 smaller sized major name supermarkets that both open at 6 a.m on Sundays. And both close at midnight. It's great.

Squeakymumtime · 27/11/2019 20:23

@Likethebattle I had a feeling that's where you were talking about- and I'm here too!
