Are there a disproportionate amount of Scots on MN?

AIBU in thinking there is a disproportionately large amount of Scots on MN? Before I continue, there is absolutely nothing 'wrong' with this, just an observation.

I very often see on the "what are you doing today" threads posted on a Sunday that they are going to the supermarket at 9am... where England and Wales don't have extended Sunday trading hours. Or lots of "I'll be voting SNP at the general election".

Anyone else noticed this? I wonder what the percentage of active users are English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish, and others?

I was born at Robroyston Hispital. I'm wondering if my Mum made it up though because I've never heard of anyone else who was born there 🤔

I do sometimes find myself having that very thought - there are lots of Scots on here, and it makes me happy. Without having to ask any of them 'whaur are ye fae?'

I was just in London and aghast that we could not go the shops Tesco/Asda - if we were up at 5:00 am with jetlag. What a shame. I felt so sorry for the poor parochial Londoners :)

ThatsMeInTheSpotlight · 27/11/2019 18:55

I was born in Rottenrow.

Looks suspiciously at snoop - are you my DSIS? or my DSIL? They're both in Cardonald.

I'm about 20 mins from Glasgow after school, but 40 mins in the morning.

Veronicat · 27/11/2019 18:55

@Likethebattle Ahh I think you are from where I work if it begins with M. I'm 4 miles away on a hill 🐄🐏🐎

Stellafox · 27/11/2019 18:58

Born in the Rottenrow and live in Uddingston.

I remember years ago when meeting people for the first time usually getting asked “ whit team dae ye support?”

highlandcoo · 27/11/2019 19:02

Born in Irvine Central too! Like Nicola I believe.

And had first two babies in the Simpson. It's luxury flats now and Ian Rankin's just bought a penthouse there.

weebarra · 27/11/2019 19:02

Queen Mum's here but left the Weeg to come to Embra for uni, met an East Coast lad and never left!

weebarra · 27/11/2019 19:03

All three babies in the new Simpsons - one registered in Borders, one in midlothian and one in Edinburgh city.

Considermesometimes · 27/11/2019 19:06

Yes I have noticed it, it is only a problem when it comes to elections and brexit.

This thread makes me want to put Highland Cathedral on and stamp my feet

feellikeanalien · 27/11/2019 19:12

Bcnamechanger my grandpa used to finish that off by saying "gey few and they're a' deid".

As a Scot living in the NE of England I feel it is my duty to make DD, who was not born in Scotland and has an English father, pronounce Ecclefechan properly every time we go up the M74 to visit family.

I have also taught her the Selkirk Grace which will obviously be very useful for her in later life!Grin
