Are there a disproportionate amount of Scots on MN?

AIBU in thinking there is a disproportionately large amount of Scots on MN? Before I continue, there is absolutely nothing 'wrong' with this, just an observation.

I very often see on the "what are you doing today" threads posted on a Sunday that they are going to the supermarket at 9am... where England and Wales don't have extended Sunday trading hours. Or lots of "I'll be voting SNP at the general election".

Anyone else noticed this? I wonder what the percentage of active users are English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish, and others?

Ah yeah that's all still there. If you were at uni the Perth Road is still basically the same; bars, shops, etc.

You should come back for a gander Grin

ThatsMeInTheSpotlight · 29/11/2019 17:34

I was actually thinking about coming this weekend because DC had today off school but the train tickets seemed very expensive! I think I'll need to book in advance. I could drive but a train adds to the day trip vibe Grin

nononever · 29/11/2019 17:37

Train tickets are really expensive! We considered getting the train to Edinburgh but it was cheaper to take the car and pay for parking.

Nyctophyllia · 29/11/2019 18:27

@Kaykay066 I'm from Nairn too

AnneKipanki · 29/11/2019 18:27

Yes , circles .

AnneKipanki · 29/11/2019 18:28

There are loads of circles in Dundee.

wafflyversatile · 29/11/2019 23:01

Dudhope circle! Is that student accommodation they've built there?

The station isn't any different below street level.

AnneKipanki · 29/11/2019 23:42

I think so Wafflyx

Talking about roundabouts… I cannot believe the pedestrian crossings are practically just off the roundabouts in Aberdeen. Some of them aren't as visible as they should be.

BluebellsareBlue · 30/11/2019 09:27

@wafflyversatile yeah that's student accommodation at the dudhope circle. The wire sculpture outside it is supposed to be a bobbin for all the kite mills that were there. @IfWishesWereFishes I hope your boiler is fixed! It's Baltic today (I'm living in monifieth now but am from Lochee/law area) so me and the hairy bairn are waiting til it warms up before our walk.

BluebellsareBlue · 30/11/2019 09:29

That of course would be JUTE Mills!! Bloody autocorrect! I'm still in my jammies contemplating putting the tree up! There will be pearls clutching all over MNright now Grin

Ds is sitting his driving test up in Aberdeen in the middle of December Shock

His cousin has failed her test 4 times, all at the same large roundabout in the centre of Aberdeen Hmm

Personally, I don't think ds is ready (he hates the roads up in Aberdeen compared to Glasgow) but he might fluke it. Hmm

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/11/2019 10:28

Good luck with the test for DS pb. He might fluke it but shouldn't be disappointed if he needs a 2nd go.

prettybird · 30/11/2019 10:38

Of course, I'll be a supportive mum and wish him luck Smile but my experience of taking him out last week doesn't make me hopeful Hmm

He's desperate to pass as he then gets to drive his grandfather's car as he's away for a few weeks. (Don't think my dad realises how much extra it will cost him Shock)

It's an automatic, which I think would be quite good for ds to drive in initially (although he's learning in a manual), so that he can concentrate on road conditions and getting experience (since all passing the test does is say you're safe to go out on your own: your "learning" hasn't finished).

wafflyversatile · 30/11/2019 10:39

Back in the day both my brothers failed their first 2 test so passed on their 3rd by going to Forfar!

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/11/2019 10:42

Absolutely, DS2 went out for a drive when he was home at the weekend as he hadn't driven for 5 or 6 weeks. He went round the estate a few times to refresh himself before he went for a longer drive.

nononever · 30/11/2019 11:01

Good luck to your son prettybird, hope he passes. It's been ages since I've driven in Glasgow, usually let my husband drive, same with Edinburgh. Aberdeen doesn't feel like a city, more like a big toon!

shortaris1 · 30/11/2019 11:20

Ah love this thread.

Born in Irvine Central, lived in Glasgow for 12 years. No where like it. I live near an offie with bars on the windaes and he let's me in to rummel aboot his fridge as I'm the only customer with a camel coat and handbag. (Or teeth for that matter)

Definitely voting SNP. The rest are clowns

IfWishesWereFishes · 30/11/2019 12:55

@BluebellsareBlue I'm from South Road area!

Boireannachlaidir · 30/11/2019 13:36

emummy · 30/11/2019 17:15

Should we message the OP to thank her for bringing us all together?!

StoorieHoose · 30/11/2019 17:28

Happy st Andrews day my fellow Scots.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 30/11/2019 18:20

I'm a lost Dundonian and went to the V&A as soon as I could. It is beautiful, inside and out. Go! Just go. Made me very proud.

The circles covered in daffs in the spring are one of my favorite things about Dundee.

Butchyrestingface · 30/11/2019 18:23

On the day of our patron saint, I have managed to take in the sights of Edinburgh, Stirling, Linlithgow, Bo’ness and er, Grangemouth. ☺️

Didn't MN used to give us this emoji for St Andrew's Day ? Grin
