Bare bum in dressing room , AIBU.

I take DS to swimming. I got the times wrong turned up for the wrong lesson. I decide to go back to the changing room to wait. I find it hard to breath in the pool area, 30 minutes is ok, an hour and I can feel my asthma begin to act up.

There is a dad there getting his daughters dressed (fine) he was in the pool and he's down to his underwear.

Another dad arrives with his son, him and my DS are in the same lesson.

Anyways dad of daughters decides to get dressed... he drops his pants and is stark naked in front of his daughters. He is also by the door so if another parent was coming in their child would have walked into his penis! And it wasn't less than a minute because he was drying himself as well 🤢...

There are cubicles. He could have used a towel as well.

Why would and adult choose to get naked in a dressing room at a swim lesson for children with strangers around.

AIBU to find it bizarre?

His bum was also hairy and unattractive 🤢.

Oookay. Just seen your update.
You were in the men's as the ladies set off your asthma?
(Correct me if I'm wrong,)
Biscuit If so, WTF did you expect lol?!
If I was a bloke I'd totally expect to be able to whop everything out without some lady coming in and taking offence at my bod or telling me to put it away lol

I was in the men's because that's where I normally go... Just have a read of previous replies for the reason.

I didn't stay by the pool because the humidity sets off my asthma, NOT the ladies changing room... that would be a rather peculiar asthma...I'm sure I'd be dead by now!

So if you normally go in the men's, why would you freak out enough to start a thread on MN?
You can't go in the men's and then complain when they get undressed FFS lol

melj1213 · 27/11/2019 02:50

YABU

If you go into the men's changing room then you run the risk of seeing mens anatomy, just as anyone going into the women's changing room runs the risk of seeing women's anatomy.

A man using the changing room to dry and dress after swimming is doing nothing wrong by being naked. He has no obligation to hide in a corner shrouded by a towel purely because there are children in the vicinity. It is the responsibility of the parents to keep their child near them and not have them look at naked strangers in changing rooms.

I use a gym that holds children's swimming lessons and our changing rooms are open plan with benches and only 2 small cubicles. I use the gym, swim, shower then go to work. I'm usually getting out if the pool at the same time the children are starting to come in for their lessons. I dont parade through the changing room naked but during the course of me getting dried/dressed then there is a possibility children will see my naked body purely due to the layout of the space and the sheer number of children milling around. That is not my problem.

I am using the gym as my membership allows and as I'm usually going to work I want to make sure I'm properly dried before I get dressed (theres nothing worse than an 8hr shift when you're slightly damp and it makes your clothes uncomfortable and clammy). If your child happens to be watching me get dried/dressed then you should be directing your child that its rude to watch strangers rather than berating me for using the changing room as intended.

whywhywhy6 · 27/11/2019 02:52

This is utterly bizarre. You’re hanging around a male change room for 30 minutes and you’re surprised there are males getting changed? I’m pretty sure you’re the odd one here.

melj1213 · 27/11/2019 02:54

Apologies if I've missed your answer but why couldn't you go and sit in the ladies changing room during the lesson?

I appreciate that you use the male changing room to help your child get ready for the lesson, but since it is a male space why would you spend the lesson time just sitting in there when you know men will potentially be coming into the room and getting naked? Why not sit in the ladies until the end of the lesson when you go back to help your child in the mens

Namechangerextraordinaire1 · 27/11/2019 03:01

You seem to jeep chabging your mind about what you were offended aviut but to answer your most recent "issue", yes, it is perfectly fine to get naked in front of other people's children if you are in a changing room such as a swimming changing room. I'm assuming he wasn't leisurely strolling around, waggling his willyin the children's faces?

He was getting changed. In the changing rooms. Where other men and children (and inexplicably, a woman and child) were also getting changed (or sitting, passing the time, in your case).

Yabu, people do get chabged in changing rooms and there's nothing wrong with stripping off if you're getting changed from swimming! I don't because I'm far too self conscious, but that doesn't mean it's not perfectly acceptable behaviour. I wish I wasn't so self conscious, it would make a nice change from trying to do acrobatics under a towel!

mathanxiety · 27/11/2019 03:18

So you are concerned that other people's children are seeing penises.

In the Men's Changing Room.

Where you decided to hang out for half an hour.

Meanwhile, in Women's Changing Rooms up and down the country, other people's children are being treated to the sight of the (possibly even hairy, gadzooks) derrieres of dozens of women. And all the rest of what makes us women.

How old is your DS? If over 7 he should be using the sex-appropriate changing room, on his own.

If this man wasn't sure his DDs were going to be all right on their own in the changing room while he got dried and halfway decent in the cubicle, I can see his reasoning.

PilatesHippo · 27/11/2019 03:27

I am quite self conscious and dislike getting naked in the women’s single sec changing room. However, even if I try to use a towel, there are some points when I temporarily am partially naked. I would be incredibly cross if a man hang out in the women’s and immediately report him.

You are being Very Unreasonable

Teachermaths · 27/11/2019 03:39

😂 I can imagine the headlines "Penis spotted in men's changing room".

OP you are either gloriously deluded or very stupid!

TeiTetua · 27/11/2019 04:12

Pinkboa, YABVVU, and not entirely honest, either. You started this thread off by just saying it was a "changing room" and only later admitted that you were trespassing in the men's. And then you have the nerve to complain about the way a man's body looks! Was the poor bloke offended by what you did? He had every right to be, and to complain to the management.

Just imagine how this would sound if the genders were reversed. "Oh, I was just hanging around in the ladies' because of my asthma..."

OccasionalNachos · 27/11/2019 04:35

Missing the point of the thread ( but YABU indeed, OP) but I’m sad at the amount of women who feel too self-conscious to get changed in a single-sex changing room without dillying about under a towel. I don’t “flaunt” Hmm in gym changing rooms but simply towel off & then put pants on - it takes seconds, and no one cares and no one is staring thinking “fuck, she could do with losing half a stone.” It’s a changing room, with people getting changed. Everyone’s there for that (except OP) - why are we so prudish?

CJsGoldfish · 27/11/2019 04:42

Did you read up thread where I accepted all this
But you haven't, have you? Sure, you say you have, but can't seem to stop with the sarcasm.
So, it's safe to say if it was my husband it's ok for a man to go completely naked in front of children that aren't his. Fab!
Yes, it is safe to say.
I have also got my gear off in the women's change room in front of other peoples children. I only say this because you said you doubted any women would.

Did you care at all OP whether YOU made any males uncomfortable when you invaded their space?

Prevegen4U · 27/11/2019 04:43

Keep out of the men's changing rooms. Maybe he didn't like you in there and decided to shock you.

Years ago in the States, when they first were allowing female reporters into the male athlete locker rooms to interview the men, in protest some male sport stars dropped their towels and walked in front of her so their penis's were in her face.

Oldfail · 27/11/2019 04:52

OP is the issue that you had gone for a childrens lesson where the parents stay in their clothes as they dont enter the water with the child.

Therefore you were confused as to why the dad had come in and dropped his kacks if he also wasnt going into the pool?

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 27/11/2019 04:56

It's a changing room! People get naked that's the point. Really don't see the issue here. It's not like he's walking round Asda with his knob out.

spanglydangly · 27/11/2019 04:57

Previous men have worn a towel because some batshit crazy woman is in their changing room, this guy thought fuck it, I'm getting changed and she can get a look of my arse!

Did you ever wonder why all the other mothers with sons weren't in the male changing room......

Hmm, now if this were a man telling this story, I'm sure the motive might be questioned.

JoannaObrien · 27/11/2019 05:24

I went to the south of France for a holiday a couple of years ago and was sitting on the beach when this old fat man started to strip off and was standing there completely naked on the beach, he then proceeded to put on a pair of speedos ... not a pretty sight! My husband sat there with his mouth open and kept nudging me as if to say look at him ... you couldn't really miss him lol

2tired2function · 27/11/2019 05:26

@pinkboa I take my infant daughter to swim lessons all the time and I... wait for it... shock horror... have to get naked to change back into dry clothes. As do all the other mothers! I How the F am I supposed to get changed if I don't do it in the changing rooms?

SuperMeerkat · 27/11/2019 05:26

I just think it’s weird in general when people walk around naked in public changing rooms. I’ll walk from the bathroom to our bedroom at home but wouldn’t dream of doing the same in front of DS or the step-kids. They’d all be mortified and think i’d lost my marbles.

PlumsGalore · 27/11/2019 05:27

This is hilarious. All I say is good job you didn’t go into the men’s at the leisure centre on a Sunday morning 😂😂😂😂

I know you’ve got the etiquette now, but you keep your little boy in the ladies until he’s about 7 and can safely go into the men’s himself, and alone, and get himself dressed where he meets you outside the changing room door.

myself2020 · 27/11/2019 05:32

You went into the men’s changing rooms????? i’m surprised they didn’t kick you out for being weird/wildly inappropriate/a sexual predator! jeez!

JoannaObrien · 27/11/2019 05:32

@SuperMeerkat

I used to work with a naturist years ago and he told me his children once brought their friends home without warning him and him and his wife were in the garden naked doing some gardening. He said the children's friends started to laugh but his children were mortified and at school the next day all the children in his son's class could talk about was his Dad's willy ha ha.

Walkaround · 27/11/2019 05:37

So, weird woman sitting in men's changing rooms takes offence at a man getting changed because she can see his bare bottom. He ensures he is turned away from the bloody annoying woman perving at him so as not to show her his penis and is naked for less than 60 seconds. She is worried that children in the changing room might have to see a bottom and that children not yet in the changing room might be thrust into the room before their parents realise there is a naked man in the men's changing rooms (not exactly an abnormal place to see naked men). It has also never crossed her mind that the women's changing room is so crowded because that is where all other women are, regardless of the sex of their 2-year olds. Hmm.
