It’s ‘best of a bad bunch’ in my case but there are three threads petrified of BJ/Tories so wondered if any MN Tories would like to gather here!

@EffervescentElephant they're not paying me as much, I'll have to get them to shake their magic money tree a bit more for me. Possibly because I'm not very good at it!

housemdwaswrong · 25/11/2019 22:41

Just read 4 pages out of interest. I won't be voting Tory, even if I did it would make zero difference here.

Of the 4 pages I've read (yes, I know, just 4, it just struck me), no-one has mentioned Johnson's truth issues. Does it not worry you that the man has serious, proven issues with the truth? Regardless of policies, allegiances, remain/ leave etc, does it not worry you that he lies consistently, and never appears to understand the finer points of anything? If I were recruiting and his cv landed on my desk, twice fired for dishonesty, it would be binned. I'd be concerned that he'll do as he wants and lie his way through it all.

Either that doesn't worry you, or you think there's enough counterbalance to check it?

And yes, no politician is totally honest more's the pity, but he does seem streets ahead in this.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 22:44

@GroupCaptainChablis drunk or angry? Not sure if by drunk are you referring to my dyslexia? But I'm not angry if that's what you meant, just midly amused 😊

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 25/11/2019 22:45

Wondering what happens at a Tory get together? Do you burn £50 notes in front of homeless people? Is being a former IRA member guaranteed entry? Or state that the people died in Grenville because they were stupid.

MarySidney · 25/11/2019 22:46

You do realise that every single one of you saying how you can't possibly vote for Labour whilst Corbyn is leader that he probably won't be leader for much longer?

That's what I'm afraid of. That if Labour win, we'll wake up one morning and find McDonnell in No.10. The Left have form for this - it's how Ken became leader of the GLC. (The prospect of McDonnell in No.11 is bad enough.)

BMW6 · 25/11/2019 22:52

Is being a former IRA member guaranteed entry?

To the Tory party? Seriously???

Ummmmmm Hmm

I am lost for words....................

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 25/11/2019 22:53

The Left have form for this

The past two Tory prime ministers got in like this.

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 25/11/2019 22:57

To the Tory party? Seriously???

Maria Gatland. Mp for Croydon. Tory. Former IRA member.

GroupCaptainChablis · 25/11/2019 22:57

woolie34

Apologies, I am slightly squiffy as I have been out on a retirement do. I apologise unreservedly for my misinterpretation of your post. I should probably go to bed... Thank you for your good natured response, much appreciated!

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 23:02

No worries 😊

itwaseverthus · 25/11/2019 23:02

Gartland defected from the IRA in 1972 whereas the Corbyn endorsing Gerry Adams still seems very active in Republican activities.

2Rebecca · 25/11/2019 23:08

Interesting the thread asks posters thinking of voting Conservative to post and people with very anti-Tory views can't stay away. I'll be voting conservative for the first time this election. I don't want Scottish independence and won't vote for a party who don't know what a woman is. I wouldn't bother going on a thread for Labour voters. I'm happy for them to chat without having insults hurled at them.

BMW6 · 25/11/2019 23:09

Well blow me down, had never heard of Maria Gatland before, have Googled and appears she was indeed in the IRA for a short period in early 1970's.

So the Conservative party reinstated her after her suspension, but as they were privy to her statements regarding her earlier involvement and I am not, I am content that she is not a threat to national security.

Conservatives seem to be a much broader church than I had realised!
Isn't that rather a good thing?

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 25/11/2019 23:09

defected from the IRA in 1972 whereas the Corbyn endorsing Gerry Adams still seems very active in Republican activities

More Daily Mail rhetoric.

Dusty01 · 25/11/2019 23:10

The thought of JC, McDonnell and Abbott in charge of the country is incomprehensible.

Is it more incomprehensible than Boris Johnson, Michael Gove, Jacob Rees Mogg and Matt Hancock? Oh and let's not forget the un-elected Dominic Cummings who is surely always likely to tag along.

housemdwaswrong · 25/11/2019 23:19

@2Rebecca

But that was always going to happen wasn't it?

I looked and posted, because the rhetoric and slagging off between party supporters is at a historic high it seems. There's nowhere to ask genuine questions of people without it getting turned into a spat.

I've read most of the thread since posting, wondering if it would shed some light on shine things I don't understand about the tory support. Im not amazingly political, but threads like this help. I've googled Scotland and Tories and independence and stuff, and now have a better understanding of the logic behind voting Tory in Scotland, even though I disagree on principle. It's nice to have somewhere to find these things out without the slagging people off aspect that has pervaded the parties too.

Wineandcheese88 · 25/11/2019 23:29

For anyone worried that immigration is too high one thing they will love is that if labour and JC get into power no one will want to live here so no more immigration. UKIP, BNP, Brexit Party will be happy!

TulipsTulipsTulips · 25/11/2019 23:34

Hooray, I’m voting conservative. Is this a friendly chat or has it gone south?

GroupCaptainChablis · 25/11/2019 23:40

So the Queen and Prince Charles shaking hands with Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness is OK then? But not when Corbyn does it? Righto. Google it. The photos are there for all to see. The Queen and Prince Charles, friends of the IRA!

And quite frankly if you believe a word that Johnson, Gove, Rees-Mogg, Hancock and Raab have to say then I have some magic beans to sell you.

I refer you to my earlier post. You Tory voters might think you are doing well now but tomorrow might deliver a massive and unexpected change to you and yours from a serious health issue or an accident. The Tory party that you think looks out for you and has a safety net for you, who have paid in for years, has gone. There is no safety net anymore. You're on your own. Once your private health care policy and your mortgage insurance policy has expired, you'll be at the mercy of DWP. and it's privately contractored assessors.

Be careful what you wish for.

MarySidney · 25/11/2019 23:45

The past two Tory prime ministers got in like this.

Not like this they didn't:
the GLC election of May 1981 led to Labour gaining power, with McIntosh installed as Head of the GLC; within 24 hours he was deposed by members of his own party, and replaced by Livingstone. Wikipedia

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 25/11/2019 23:46

“Hooray, I’m voting conservative. Is this a friendly chat or has it gone south?”

I’m afraid you’re too late Tulip, this thread jumped the shark following a momentum tsunami and some crazy gaslighting about 10 pages ago.
🤦🏻‍♀️🤡

itwaseverthus · 25/11/2019 23:46

Are you always this pessimistic and depressing GroupCaptainChablis? Grin I'm not voting Conservative because I believe they are fantastic and lovely and always going to be there for me. I am voting for Brexit, yet again. I wouldn't vote Labour on account of the terrifying antisemitism, among other reasons so Conservative it is.

MeowTseTung · 25/11/2019 23:51

I'm politically homeless but will probably plump for the Tories.

What concerns me more than anything about Labour - even more than their manifesto - is the idea of a front bench consisting of the Honourable Member for Islington South, the Honourable Member for Islington North, the Honourable Member for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, the Honourable Member for Hayes and Harlington and the Honourable Member for Holborn and St Pancras.

That little ensemble doesn't strike me as having the interests of anywhere outside the capital very high on their agenda...

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 25/11/2019 23:52

A particular highlight for me was, the comment about setting fire to us, as we (tory voters) are all gathered in one place here.

Tory voters are the nasty ones, obvs... Hmm
