AIBU about Angel Delight?

I think layering different flavours of Angel Delight would be nice. DH thinks the flavours should be kept separated, to maintain their integrity.

I'm referring to banana, chocolate and butterscotch. Not strawberry. Even I wouldn't go that far.

Don't @ me if you don't like Angel Delight. We couldn't be friends.

Big fan of layering chocolate and butterscotch.

You are right to exclude the strawberry ones

GriseldaChop · 23/11/2019 22:19

Sunday pudding used to be broken up digestives in the bottom and angel delight then crushed up flake on top. It was yum!

Fluffysunshinepants · 23/11/2019 22:21

I'll just leave this here!

I think chocolate and banana or banana and butterscotch. Chocolate and butterscotch but without the banana. And with chopped bananas in the banana layer and chocolate chips in the other layer. Yes.

CoffeeAndChocolate10 · 23/11/2019 22:29

Totally outing myself to anybody who knows me but paleontology pudding is the layered angel delight way to go. Crushed chocolate biscuits in the bottom, then a layer of chocolate angel delight, then one of butterscotch, then melted chocolate on the top. In a clear sided container. Hide mini eggs or dinosaur sweets in the layers to be discovered by the palentologist.

babycatcher411 · 23/11/2019 22:31

All I can say is I wish someone had told my mother the Angel Delight Etiquette.
We had for years butterscotch, strawberry and chocolate, layered, in that order. I mean, butterscotch and chocolate, fine, strawberry and chocolate also fine, but come on, all 3??!

Zampa · 23/11/2019 22:37

There are some fine dessert ideas on this thread. I'm trying them all.

Banana angel delight is vomit inducing. It’s like amoxicillin medicine.

Butterscotch on the other hand is delicious. And vanilla. Layered together with chocolate and some ladies fingers biscuits soaked in coffee liqueur !

peachgreen · 23/11/2019 22:44

Butterscotch and chocolate, fine.
Strawberry, chocolate and vanilla, fine.
Butterscotch on its own, in a massive bowl with two spoons - heaven.

policeandthieves · 23/11/2019 22:44

I've remembered the strawberry syrup in a tin pudding - strawberry sweetheart - I think it came in orange as well. Does anyone know if you can still get it.
Last seen ( by me ) approx 1980

peachgreen · 23/11/2019 22:44

Banana should never, ever be seen.

BalanchineBallet · 23/11/2019 22:48

Thank you @peachgreen

It’s heinous.

Tiredmumno1 · 23/11/2019 22:49

Fluffy, could you just leave that on my table instead, cheers

One of the happiest days of my life was when I got a free sample of Angel Delight ice cream mix in the post.

Yeah. Angel Delight ice cream. It was all you'd expect and MORE.

Badabingbadabum · 23/11/2019 22:53

I have never considered layering it. We used to have it in the fancy glass bowls with hundreds and thousands.

Is there a knack to making AD now? I used to make it with a hand whisk and slightly less milk, sometimes an added spoonful of cocoa (I know, well sophisticated)but the last couple of times it simply would not thicken. Dd1 thought it was some kind of wonderful drink!

StrongerThanIThought76 · 23/11/2019 23:05

You lot are animals!

CheeseFace · 23/11/2019 23:12

Butterscotch with s crushed ginger biscuit base for me please. Topped with cream and grated chocolate for fancyness. No fake banana flavour within 50 yards thankyouverymuch.

On a similar convenience-pudding theme, why did Heinz stop making those great tinned syrup sponge puddings? It's a travesty.

BreconBeBuggered · 23/11/2019 23:13

I was never a butterscotch fan. I have a faint memory of trying the peach flavour whilst I was using a peach-fragranced shampoo, and to me the Angel Delight tasted kind of soapy. No, it was chocolate all the way for the Brecon kids, and no fancy layering or triflification - it was strictly a midweek treat.
MIL always bought banana flavour, which tells you everything you need to know about her approach to food.

Librocubicularist · 23/11/2019 23:20

@JuniperSling I was just thinking about getting some peach. That's really disappointing.

We've had chocolate blancmange tonight. Thought we could create a triffle with swiss roll (vanilla and chocolate), banana and squirty cream. But could go one further and add a layer of banana angel delight. Mmm.

Librocubicularist · 23/11/2019 23:24

Almost forgot the blue banana jelly sitting in the cupboard.

PooWillyBumBum · 23/11/2019 23:29

I would have any of those two flavours but not all three. Banana and butterscotch with some crushed digestives and sliced banana for a far fetched take on banoffee pie.

I can’t eat dairy and butterscotch angel delight makes me ache if I catch sight of it in the shop.

wotsittoyou · 23/11/2019 23:38

Stop it with your nonsense! One flavour only, full sugar version made with whole milk, topped with dream topping and sprinkles.

GreenTulips · 23/11/2019 23:42

Bast*rds stopped making raspberry flavour .... how very dare they!

Defenbaker · 23/11/2019 23:42

YANBU, it sounds delicious. I'm craving Angel Delight now... food of the gods!

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 23/11/2019 23:47

My mum used to make a pudding that was a layer of Rice Krispie treat, then a layer of whipped double cream and finally a layer of angel delight. They used to do choc orange and choc mint angel delight but alas no longer, which she usually used, though sometimes it was peach or strawberry. It was amazing. Even today it is still my pinnacle of puddings even though I haven't eaten it in about 25 years.
