How often do you sit in your bedroom?

Our bedroom is the last room to be tackled in long house renovation (5 years).

I've lived with baby blue walls, some weird wooden trellis glued to the walls in place of coving, a disgusting makeup stained beige carpet and railings instead of a wardrobe.

But we finished it last week! Restored the wooden floors, new bed, F&B Elephants Breath on the wall, pictures, lamps, candles - the lot. It's so ridiculously cosy.

But now DH is getting funny with me because I want to sit up there and not in the living room. I had a bath earlier then just sat on my bed chilling and looking around the room and enjoying the peace. I'd like to do this more often, take a book and a glass of wine up there, if not, it just becomes a room we sleep in.

But DH came up looking for me to see if I was ok (to be fair, he'd made dinner and I didn't realise it was ready) and thinks it's odd to sit up there alone. For context, we have a three year old so the peace is welcomed!

So how often do you just 'sit' in your bedroom?

I’m sat in my bedroom now. Mainly because I’ve just got out the shower and am waiting for my 3 year old in the room next door to fall asleep so it’s easier than going downstairs to come back up every 5 minutes!

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 23/11/2019 19:56

If I had a room like that I'd sit in it too!

Spacerader · 23/11/2019 19:58

I love escaping to my room, dp will from time to time just lay on the bed reading and take so time alone.

Being alone in your bedroom feeeks far more relaxing than being on the sofa sometimes

navteexo · 23/11/2019 19:58

I sit in there after dinner and after my son has gone to sleep. I like the peace lol

middlemuddle · 23/11/2019 19:58

As much as I can really, I feel comfier in bed. I've got a tv in my room too so just prefer it overall as I have a bad back and find my sofa uncomfortable.

Freddiefox · 23/11/2019 19:59

Did the elephant last breath come out well? Was it quite brown?

Biggie123 · 23/11/2019 19:59

I hardly ever do and it seems like a waste as we took the biggest bedroom over the kids. I don’t think my DH would have it any other way Though.
I think it’s great you want to spend fine there
I often find my bedroom more relaxing than the living room

EskewedBeef · 23/11/2019 19:59

Only when I'm about to go to sleep and when I've just woken up, I'll sit up in bed for a few minutes.

WineandPretzels · 23/11/2019 19:59

I often retreat to my bedroom for peace and quiet. It's my complete chill out zone.

DramaAlpaca · 23/11/2019 20:02

I've never thought about it before, but never. I leave my bedroom in the morning & rarely go back in there until it's time to go to bed. I have a nice bedroom, but only use it to sleep in.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 23/11/2019 20:02

Dh and I both have times when we are in there alone. Dh watches the football up there when it's on, and I often go up for a read or just to chill and stare out of the window at the trees outside. It has a different feeling to the lounge.

LajesticVantrashell · 23/11/2019 20:03

@Freddiefox - yes! It's a large room in a period house so gets lots of light and is actually grey-er than I expected it to be.

spacepyramid · 23/11/2019 20:03

Never, it's pretty much a store room with a bed. I used to as I had a sofa and bookshelves in there but it's now the only room the house we have room to store stuff.

Havaina · 23/11/2019 20:07

I don’t really sit but I love a lie down in my bedroom when I get the chance. So does DH.

Everyone needs a bit of alone time sometimes, don’t let him make you feel guilty.

Surely he should let you know dinner is ready, unless you have it a fixed time every day?

GaraMedouar · 23/11/2019 20:11

No - would never just sit up there, but I do play my violin up in my bedroom as often as possible.

notso · 23/11/2019 20:12

Not really. It feels a bit teenagery when I have a whole house to relax in.
I don't appreciate hotel rooms either.

ClemDanFango · 23/11/2019 20:15

He sounds a bit jel 😆

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/11/2019 20:16

I spend loads of time in my bedroom. It’s beautiful and I love it. I live alone so I don’t have anyone demanding my presence downstairs. The cat comes up and she loves it too. 😹

MrsMonkeyBear · 23/11/2019 20:19

We live in a bungalow so escaping to the bedroom is often the only peace I get from 2 kids, husband and cat.

I quite often just say to DH that I'm off to lie down for an hour to escape the kids for a bit.

Reallynowdear · 23/11/2019 20:21

My bedroom is place of peace, I love it.

I have lovely smelling candles burning, watch youtube, read etc.

Perhaps in the summer it may alter a little but in the winter it's cosy and probably the most used room in the house.

FlatterNow · 23/11/2019 20:23

We have just put a rocking chair in our bedroom (we inherited it and the bedroom is only place it would fit). I love sitting up there! But I accept that if DH is in the living room it seems antisocial - I am now planning a bookcase and rug, though.

PennyGold · 23/11/2019 20:25

I love spending time in my bedroom! We have a no TV policy so it's so peaceful to be away from electronics and read a book.
My husband tends to stay downstairs and I have a gin or a glass of wine!
Enjoy your bedroom and the peace!

LBOCS2 · 23/11/2019 20:26

I love sitting in my bedroom. Obviously when I'm 'drying', post-shower (AKA lounging on my bed in a towel) but I also just chill out there while our DDs are playing in their bedroom. It's peaceful.

lovelyannie · 23/11/2019 20:27

Only for an hour of TV before bed and then maybe an hour of TV in bed before getting up at the weekends. Never more than that.

We have a spare room we use as a 'walk in wardrobe' hence we spend even less time in bedroom after showering etc

Not often enough.
