How often do you sit in your bedroom?

Our bedroom is the last room to be tackled in long house renovation (5 years).

I've lived with baby blue walls, some weird wooden trellis glued to the walls in place of coving, a disgusting makeup stained beige carpet and railings instead of a wardrobe.

But we finished it last week! Restored the wooden floors, new bed, F&B Elephants Breath on the wall, pictures, lamps, candles - the lot. It's so ridiculously cosy.

But now DH is getting funny with me because I want to sit up there and not in the living room. I had a bath earlier then just sat on my bed chilling and looking around the room and enjoying the peace. I'd like to do this more often, take a book and a glass of wine up there, if not, it just becomes a room we sleep in.

But DH came up looking for me to see if I was ok (to be fair, he'd made dinner and I didn't realise it was ready) and thinks it's odd to sit up there alone. For context, we have a three year old so the peace is welcomed!

So how often do you just 'sit' in your bedroom?

Antisocial is the introverts heaven, don't dismiss it. It's a skill to be able to sit quietly and happily in your own company.

@exWifebeginsAgainat46 - I also used to live in a studio - or a 'panic room with a kettle ' to quite Alan Carr.

I could lean out of bed and open the fridge. But strangely, they were some of the best years of my life and I loved living there.

Most evenings. I enjoy the peace and quiet and I can watch whatever I want on tv and don’t have to be bored to death by my partner watching his sports news (infuriating) and it’s also way comfier than the sofa as I can sprawl across the king size bed. Not to mention plough my way through my secrecy sweet and biscuit stash in my bedside table 😝🍫

I love my bedroom and in the winter daytime am often in there listening to the radio, sorting out my clothes, or reading in bed, on mumsnet, or having a nap wanking. We live in a flat. I suppose if I lived in a house I wouldn't be in the bedroom as much.

nethunsinthatway · 23/11/2019 21:59

Have just moved and spent my whole day today in the bedroom. Oddly my last two homes, I’ve had huge bedrooms and haven’t enjoyed them. This one is far smaller but for some reason find it perfect for relaxing in.

Menora · 23/11/2019 22:00

I also spend loads of time in my room. I just bought a new bed so I make the most of sitting on it

dementedma · 23/11/2019 22:00

Every evening. It means I can escape the tv and sit on the bed and read.

Krisskrosskiss · 23/11/2019 22:04

I sit in my bedroom loads! I read in there witha cup of tea whilst my husband is downstairs looking after the kids lol.... my time off! Sometimes I sit up there when the kids are in bed too and my husband watches football or does work downstairs... hes never once commented on it. We also spend lots of time together as family or as a couple...I just like to sit on my own sometimes... he probably does too... I think that's totally normal..
And my bedroom isnt even nice lol yours sounds absolutely lovely no wonder you want to chill in there

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 23/11/2019 22:05

My old bedroom was so ridiculously enormous you could fit my now entire 3 bed house in it. It was a total waste of space - all I ever did was sleep in it.

My bedroom now is utterly tiny. Space for a bed and not much more. But oh god I love it. Loveliest moments of my life lying in bed, reading, or listening to the radio, and feeling so snug and safe.

flirtygirl · 23/11/2019 22:05

I've always loved my bedroom and have always spent more time in it than the lounge.

Not sure if that will change anytime soon.

Strictly1972 · 23/11/2019 22:06

Often although no chair so I just lay on the bed. Usually accompanied by the kids though! It’s used by them most days as a second lounge

DankGraveGhouls · 23/11/2019 22:07

Not our bedroom, that's for sleep and clothes lol. We have a 6 bed townhouse and I have a retreat/relaxation room and study on the top floor. I quite often go up there for a bit of headspace once the kids are down.

Xenia · 23/11/2019 22:08

I have my own self contained office so spend a lot of time in there rather than my bed room but if I didn't I might. It's nice to get some peace.

stucknoue · 23/11/2019 22:12

Rarely because I have no seat in my room and if I lie in my bed I fall asleep too early

exWifebeginsAgainat46 · 23/11/2019 22:12

@LajesticVantrashell that made me cackle and i woke the cat up.

it’s only a little hovel, but it’s mine. i’ve just come out of a 5 year relationship which ended very badly, and it’s exactly what i need at the moment.

if i’m still here at 56, i may not be so sanguine about it.

Stupiddriver1 · 23/11/2019 22:13

Every evening! I watch tv in bed and leave dh to the sofa and front room!

Ruddle91 · 23/11/2019 22:14

As an introvert my room is my "nest". I hide in here to read, chill, listen to music etc. We live in a small bungalow so we're quite "on top of each other" so bedrooms are more or a living space too.

SpiderCharlotte · 23/11/2019 22:19

Quite often. I love our bedroom.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/11/2019 22:19

Often! I do it to escape, especially on a Sunday afternoon and a lot of the time when I'm alone in the house. It's a lovely room, great view, nice light, warmer than downstairs, has a bed to lie on...

PhilomenaButterfly · 23/11/2019 22:22

All the time when I'm not busy. It used to be because my 4G was shit anywhere else in the house, now it's because I prefer it.

Velveteenfruitbowl · 23/11/2019 22:24

We spend lots of time in there. A big bed is far better than a sofa for reading/chatting/watching tv. Barely spend time in our living room together though.

WoollyMummoth · 23/11/2019 22:26

I love spending quiet time in my gothic bedroom with it’s twinkly lights. It’s my little haven of peace away from motor sport/football/ pounding music and sibling disagreements.
I spray my pillow with my favourite perfume and chill out with my books.

Getoffmylilo · 23/11/2019 22:26

Every evening for about half an hour when I get home from work and I'm out of work clothes (I'm kidding myself, it's often much longer than half an hour). It's the silence and the calm.

20viona · 23/11/2019 22:28

All the time! I love just sitting on my bed relaxing with the tv on. I'm winter if I'm downstairs after 8pm that's good going!

Thestrangestthing · 23/11/2019 22:29

All the time, on MN, watching TV. Much prefer it to sitting in the living room.
