How often do you sit in your bedroom?

Our bedroom is the last room to be tackled in long house renovation (5 years).

I've lived with baby blue walls, some weird wooden trellis glued to the walls in place of coving, a disgusting makeup stained beige carpet and railings instead of a wardrobe.

But we finished it last week! Restored the wooden floors, new bed, F&B Elephants Breath on the wall, pictures, lamps, candles - the lot. It's so ridiculously cosy.

But now DH is getting funny with me because I want to sit up there and not in the living room. I had a bath earlier then just sat on my bed chilling and looking around the room and enjoying the peace. I'd like to do this more often, take a book and a glass of wine up there, if not, it just becomes a room we sleep in.

But DH came up looking for me to see if I was ok (to be fair, he'd made dinner and I didn't realise it was ready) and thinks it's odd to sit up there alone. For context, we have a three year old so the peace is welcomed!

So how often do you just 'sit' in your bedroom?

I love my bedroom since it’s the one room in our family house that doesn’t remind me of exH at all. I moved to a different room in the house after he moved out (it previously wasn’t a bedroom) and it has since then felt like “my room” whereas all the other rooms are exactly how they were when he moved out. Sometimes on week days I don’t even go in the living room. By the time I’m done with stuff I just curl up in my bed with the iPad for half an hour

FizzyIce · 23/11/2019 22:31

Rarely, much prefer the sofa.
We watch tv in bed some nights but not often

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 23/11/2019 22:33

Quite often. I don’t know if it’s because we live in a flat so there’s no going upstairs involved 🤷‍♀️ Often in the evening me and the two teen ds’s are each in our own rooms chilling / reading / watching tv. (I don’t have a husband to moan about it though.)

Bluntness100 · 23/11/2019 22:33

Never. I also think it's quite anti social. Our daughter has never done it either.

We have a second living room though, my daughter will use it to study or play play station, my husband to play play station or watch tv if it clashes with something I really want to watch (rarely). I never sit in there either, although it's a lovely peaceful room. Generally we all sit together in the lounge.

None of us sit in a bedroom on our own ever, I can't really imagine it. I also didn't do it as a child. So it's quite alien to me.

Cobblersandhogwash · 23/11/2019 22:34

I snuggle down in my bedroom for a sneaky read or nap quite often on a weekend afternoon. And it really isn't half as nice as yours sounds!

Enjoy it!!

MonChatEstMagnifique · 23/11/2019 22:35

I use our bedroom quite a lot. It's a big room, we have a really comfortable superking size bed, big tv on the wall and it's always warmer than the rest of the house, so it's perfect for me. We have really nice lamps and it looks really lovely in the evening with them on. It's also the perfect escape when OH is watching sport.

My OH and kids will often come in to chat to me and end up staying for ages as its just a really comfortable room to be in. Enjoy it I say.

happytobemrsg · 23/11/2019 22:36

My room is newly renovated too! Compared to the rest of the house which, even at its tidiest, is cluttered with bits & toys, it’s so calm & peaceful. We have a walk in wardrobe so everything is put away. There are beautiful views as well. I spent the last two evenings there because the lounge was out of bounds due to fitting a new fireplace. It was lovely! I felt much more relaxed compared to when I’m spending the whole evening watching tv. I think I’ll do it more

Scbchl · 23/11/2019 22:36

We are in it most evenings in winter after dinners all cleaned away.

Kids go to their rooms too and come in and out ours, come watch TV or chat etc. Our living rooms always freezing cold in winter. On a Friday night my dh is out and me and the kids have a movie night in my bedroom and often just all crash out.

Summer we tend to not be up here as much.

GaaaaarlicBread · 23/11/2019 22:42

I am always in our bedroom . Get the candles lit , bedside Lamp on, TV on or maybe a book and some music playing . I bloody love it !! Yours sounds lovely too. Spend as much time as you want there ! We have been renovating too this last year , and our bedroom was the last to be finished and I now spend most my time up here if DH is doing something on his computer or cooking . It’s just so cosy ! X

WalkAwaySugarbear · 23/11/2019 22:44

I love weekend mornings in bed, with a coffee and TV/ on my phone. The kids are playing downstairs. If DH is working nights I love going to bed early with a wine or a brew and vegging out in bed.

nethunsinthatway · 23/11/2019 22:48

@sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea exactly the same here! My huge bedrooms left me feeling a bit cold... now I have a smaller room I far prefer to be in it.

Beautiful3 · 23/11/2019 22:50

Never. Only use it at bed time.

Clearnightsky · 23/11/2019 22:52

Loads!

Partly as I’m separating from DP and still living in the same house... sigh.
However it’s nice up here, cosy, nice colours, I’ve made it lovely. Only evenings after kids in bed and after chores done. I also am a SAHM so I spent a lot of time downstairs during the day.

Butterymuffin · 23/11/2019 22:52

Your room sounds lovely! Going to try and use it as inspiration for getting mine done.

dontlickthelamp · 23/11/2019 23:13

I probably sit in it for about an hour before I go to bed

megletthesecond · 23/11/2019 23:17

Quite often. The dc's well, DD won't let me have my choice of tv channel in the living room so I hide away in my room for some programmes or if I want to watch the news.

GoGoLego · 23/11/2019 23:23

Yes but only when there's some crap tv show love island on and no one else wants to watch it I want to watch something in peace

elprup · 23/11/2019 23:29

I’m also slowly renovating my house and the main bedroom will be the last room to get done. I know people often advise starting with that first so you have a “sanctuary”, but I wanted to get the main areas that guests will see finished first. I can’t wait to have a nice bedroom though!

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 23/11/2019 23:30

All the time. When we had our house renovated I bought a chaise longue for my room, and I use it loads - I’m here now MNing when I should be in bed. I do yoga in here too.

Fatted · 23/11/2019 23:36

I've recently moved house. In my old house, our bedroom was the same size as the living room (huge) and I did spend a lot of time up there. I'd either sit up there in the evening to read, straighten my hair or watch something different on the telly to DH. At least once a week DH and I would both curl up to watch a film in bed.

Since moving house, our bedroom is much smaller and I must admit I don't like to spend as much time there. Our front room is also much, much nicer now so I think that's part of it.

ferntwist · 23/11/2019 23:37

I do it often. Enjoy your beautiful room and peaceful space!

Ibizafun · 23/11/2019 23:37

We have tv’s in all the living areas but nothing beats lying in bed and watching tv!

Cherrysoup · 23/11/2019 23:39

Our bedroom is very functional, although very beautiful, IMO. Rarely, I’ll dry off in there after a bath, but I’m more likely to be in the spare room which contains ‘my’ wardrobe. Our bedroom is kitted out with serious blackout for when my DH does nights. It’s been done to a very high spec and makes me happy, but it’s for sleeping in, there’s no TV but there is a speaker which the DH uses when he’s doing a workout up there.

MissLadyM · 23/11/2019 23:39

I was just thinking about this! I have a gorgeous bedroom and am going to hang out in there more often!

WWlOOlWW · 23/11/2019 23:43

I haven't sat in my front room for over 5 years. My bedroom is amazing and I'm in here all the time.
