To say that Currys are CUNTS

I'm not. The are cunts of the highest order and I rue the day I ever spent a penny of my money there. The customer service might be the worst I've ever had and I do hope that they're the next to go down the pan. Fuck you Currys. Smile

They are rubbish. Last December's clusterfuck in trying to get and plumb in a washing machine still haunts me. Just crap service all round, except from the guy sub contracted to delivery the product, and not actually a Curry's employee, who was the only one apologised.

I once had professional dealings with a techie from Knowhow (my profession, not his) and my jaw dropped when he said that although his job was to solve customer tech problems the only knowledge he had was from GCSE IT.

I suspect we have partially brought this on ourselves by shopping online & thus their training & staffing budgets being slashed

I doubt it, as I've not shopped in Dixons/Curry's for almost 20 years and online ordering wasn't nearly as prevalent then.

I went there as an 18 yo to get my mum's presents for my younger brother and sister, and when I refused the hugely expensive insurance the saleswoman retorted 'well, wait till they're crying when they break on Boxing Day and don't come back to me'. Charming. Terribly manipulation of a young woman.

My brother was also buying a laptop that they said they'd have to order in. He said he'd rather one he could take away that day and the salesman confidently assured him that no shop would give him a laptop away that day. 20 minutes later, walked out of JL with a laptop. They treat their customers like idiots.

I've never had a significant problem with Currys, either.

Last year, our freezer, fridge and diswasher all gave up the ghost, a few weeks apart. We're planning on reconfiguring the kitchen in a couple of years, so wanted the cheapest, basics for replacements.

All 3 are Currys Essentials, cheap as chips and perfectly functional . I stock checked online, picked them up myself (in each case, helped by nice, polite young men!) brought them home, unpacked them and DP and I removed the old ones and put them in their spaces.

The only problem I had was when I paid for and reserved a new tv online, drove 20 miles to the nearest branch to collect it and found it was out of stock (this has also happened to me at Homebase, B&Q and Argos).

They found the same model at another branch and arranged for it to be delivered the next day, free of charge, and they arrived on the dot of 9.00 with it, as requested.

I had no idea they had such a bad reputation.

I ordered a new TV last night. Same price at both Currys and Amazon with Currys able to deliver a day earlier.

Went with Amazon.

@MumOfAPickle I'm so impressed that you managed to get them to get rid of that extra charge - they were horrid with me when I questioned it.

I'd really like to do something about this - even though it happened ages ago to me - I hate the idea that they do it to other customers. I mean, surely they're legally not allowed to lie about the fact that 'they haven't got any more in stock'? (which is definitely a lie).

I'd like to bring it to the attention of one of the Radio four programmes - is it 'money box' that brings up these issues?

I still feel so, so, soooo annoyed about it!!

Hingeandbracket · 22/11/2019 12:10

YANBU I was banned from Curry’s in Bath I am proud to say (for the crime of politely asking them to sell me an item for the price on the shelf)

isabellerossignol · 22/11/2019 12:14

Hingeandbracket I think you are my hero.

When I had my issue with Currys I actually had to refrain from going into the shop that had caused the mess because I'm pretty sure I would have ended up with a restraining order or the police being called. Not because I'd be threatening or aggressive, but because I know I'm stubborn and I would have ended up standing there and refusing to leave.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/11/2019 12:19

I've never had a problem with Curry's either and most of our electrical appliances have come from there.

When our dishwasher broke, I looked at Currys, AO.com and John Lewis. Currys were the cheapest and could deliver the next day, while the others took up to a week (JL).

Friend who insists on buying all his appliances from John Lewis has had no end of problems with damaged and delayed deliveries

FilthyBiscuit · 22/11/2019 13:09

I couldn't agree with you more OP. They were utter cunts to me when they broke my fridge/freezer and blamed me despite the fact I wasn't even there.
