To say that Currys are CUNTS

QuietAndStill · 21/11/2019 14:31

I'm not. The are cunts of the highest order and I rue the day I ever spent a penny of my money there. The customer service might be the worst I've ever had and I do hope that they're the next to go down the pan. Fuck you Currys. Smile

I bought a smart tv years ago, the male sales assistant spoke only to dh even though I was paying & then had the utter cheek to put it through as a business sale to the company dh works for because his name was on his shirt.

They sent the invoice for my tv to dhs boss who called him in to ask why he’d bought a tv on the company’s account.

I emailed the ceo over that to let them know it wasn’t anything to do with dhs company & request a new receipt in my name.

PaulGalico · 21/11/2019 15:11

Also never, ever let them convince you to buy any form of extended warranty with 'KnowHow' - they are dreadful.

MLMsuperfan · 21/11/2019 15:12

Currys are absolute piss burgers. I once asked if I could return a device if it didn't get a reception in my area, the assistant literally replied "no chance". I said that Argos let you return anything for any reason. She said "buy it there, then". So I did. Absolute wank spanners.

TheMidasTouch · 21/11/2019 15:12

Go and look at the appliance in person at Curry's then, once satisfied, buy it online from another supplier. Price match at John Lewis. I hate Curry's.

BiarritzCrackers · 21/11/2019 15:15

I don't think I've bought stuff from Curry's for a while, but was thinking a bit about customer service from lots of stores recently, that seems to be getting worse. Part of the reason might be that we are returning so much more stuff because there is an issue that the appliances themselves are getting worse - lots of us can attest that when we replace appliances that we have happily owned for 15-20 years before they fail, we find that the new replacements are godawful. Blenders, toasters, kettles: so many die within a few months.

Obviously this is anecdotal, but I do wonder whether the volume of products failing within the warranty period or 'reasonable' expected timescale of function has an impact on stores who have so much more of this to deal with.

Sorry, this isn't exactly much to do with the thread...

terriblyangryattimes · 21/11/2019 15:16

Cuntys customer service had me in tears on more than occasion over the same issue. They broke, then lost my laptop and then gave me a hard drive with someone else personal images and documents on and lost mine- god know who they gave it to. Never ever setting foot inside one again. Sorry you had to deal with them too

NKFell · 21/11/2019 15:17

They had two identical Smart TVs (same product code- identical!) but one was £100 more so I asked the assistant if it was just a mistake and he said "no, why would you think that?". I told him they were the same and he said "are you not very technical?" Angry I pointed out the same Samsung product code and he said they were the same on all Samsungs so I showed him they weren't and he got angry, raised his voice and said "WHAT DO YOU ME TO SAY?". I said I'll go buy elsewhere and he called be a 'bitch' under his breath. I complained but was rebuffed.

Bought from AO instead.

OMGshefoundmeout · 21/11/2019 15:21

There is website called Resolver. www.resolver.co.uk/. It’s in some way connected with Moneysupermarket and it’s free to use.

You can place a complaint via them and it’s all logged and tracked. I’ve found complaints made through this site get speedier attention and better resololutions than complaints I’ve made independently.

And I agree Curry’s are absolutely awful. I have no idea how they manage to stay in business. They are overpriced and understocked and have untrained staff who know nothing about the products. Hell would freeze over before I ever bought anything there.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 21/11/2019 15:21

Another here to recommend AO.com

I went after dismal and rude service from John Lewis and I will never go back.

AO.com very very good.

I'd tweet about Curry's-bet there are lots of horror stories!

potter5 · 21/11/2019 15:21

Walked out of Currys years ago due to faulty vacuum cleaner. Mid argument! Poor DH just left standing there stunned. Since then vowed never to darken their doors again.

Happily now shop at AO.com who are wonderful. Order online and they deliver when they say they will. No issues at all.

Wendyasbury · 21/11/2019 15:24

Agree they are awful !

TheTrollFairy · 21/11/2019 15:29

The CEO of our company doesn’t get involved in complaints but you can bet your ass that any complaint that gets to him is sorted and the shit hits the fan for the person who the complaint is about just by the fact that it had to be escalated to our CEO.

Different company though not Currys.

This thread has made me glad I didn’t just purchase an item from them

percheron67 · 21/11/2019 15:29

Whomever you complain to it would be a good idea to moderate your language. If you cant describe something or someone without turning to gutter language, it may pay to keep quiet.

81Byerley · 21/11/2019 15:30

YANBU. An extract from my blog from years ago, to Currys/PC World.

To say that Currys are CUNTS
LemonPrism · 21/11/2019 15:33

@Ferretyone I'm paid poorly and I still do a good job and am polite to customers/clients. It's not an excuse...

Rosere · 21/11/2019 15:33

Not a fan. I don't even like the Curry's stores.
Argos on the other hand replaced an electrical item to my doorstep within 3 hours of a call. I buy any electrical anything I need from there now.

UterusUterusGhali · 21/11/2019 15:33

Yeah they’re terrible.

I don’t know how they’ve stayed open for so long. It’s a shame because people like to get a feel of goods before they buy, but I’d never set foot in the place again after awful service.

Time40 · 21/11/2019 15:33

@percheron67, would you care to explain where the "gutter language" is in the mail the OP sent to the CEO? (copied below). I'm looking very hard, and I can't see any.

"Dear Mr Baldock

I appreciate that customer complaints are probably outwith your normal duties, but I’m contacting you in the hope that you can assist me with horrendous service I’ve received recently from Currys and the fact that no one wants to help. The matter relates to three separate faulty appliances and the absolute shameful way in which I’ve been treated. I would be very grateful for any assistance you could provide."

Roussette · 21/11/2019 15:34

OP you have to persist. Companies like Currys get away with appalling service because people give up.

Twitter does work, because everyone can read it. If you're not on there, what about FB?

If I know, hand on heart, that I am receiving bad bad service, I won't give up. Only trouble is, it is sooooo time consuming. I'm always polite, but I persist and persist and persist.

And I always get satisfaction.

(Oh heck, I'm really bigging myself up here, I just hate injustice like this!)

IncrediblySadToo · 21/11/2019 15:35

I’ve had mixed experiences.

However, please don’t wish their demise on us all!!!

It’s still the best place to go and LOOK at stuff, even if you don’t buy in store.

I suspect we have partially brought this on ourselves by shopping online & thus their training & staffing budgets being slashed (and clearly the cleaning budget - they’re all filthy) and as a PP said, the quality of the appliances etc being far below the previous generations

My annoyance today is with Hermes. I’m trying to sort an issue for a friend and cannot speak to a real, actual, human being. 🙄 if I could I could resolve the issue in about 20 seconds. 🤬

Time40 · 21/11/2019 15:36

... and Op, you've done exactly the right thing to mail the CEO. No, of course CEOs don't deal with things like this, but because you've gone to the highest level, someone in the CEO's office will have to deal with it. Going straight to the CEO is definitely the best way of getting results.

To get even better results, write a proper, old-school letter on paper. That really gets results. Trust me!

Fink · 21/11/2019 15:37

Curry's in general are dreadful, but I've met two Team KnowHow (the techies) guys who are absolutely brilliant. One of them has gone out of his way to recover my lost data, including taking it home and doing it at night after his 9pm shift finishes for several nights. The other one came round my friend's house after his shift to disassemble her old tv ready for council collection because the company refused to do it in work time. The wait times are awful but once you get to see either of them they are so so helpful. And I feel badly for them because I know (from another friend whose partner works there) that they're under pressure from management to upsell and not 'waste' too much time on each customer, as well as not being well paid.

I only went to Curry's because it was the only place open late at night when I needed a quick repair, even though I've had bad experiences with the length of queues and bad customer service in the past, and the reviews weren't positive. I've had contact with 3 techies and 2 of them have gone so far beyond what is required that I'm amazed.

Srictlybakeoff · 21/11/2019 15:37

They fitted our new washing machine - said it was fine . I paid extra for this service and for early delivery. As soon as I used the machine it flooded the kitchen. They refused to refund what I’d paid for early delivery and fitting despite the fact that I had to wait several days for them to sort it out .
When we got another new machine ( fitted by John Lewis) - the guys said that the curry’s washing machine had never been plumbed in properly

Time40 · 21/11/2019 15:37

I'm always polite, but I persist and persist and persist. And I always get satisfaction

Yes. Me too.

percheron67 · 21/11/2019 15:39

Time40. I was, of course referring to the message on site?! Hard - yes/no?
