To say that Currys are CUNTS

QuietAndStill · 21/11/2019 14:31

I'm not. The are cunts of the highest order and I rue the day I ever spent a penny of my money there. The customer service might be the worst I've ever had and I do hope that they're the next to go down the pan. Fuck you Currys. Smile

AdobeWanKenobi · 21/11/2019 16:38

@KamikazeIdiot it's not nonsense.

I emailed the CEO of Sky after becoming totally exasperated with them. Had a reply from his office within 24 hours and the issue solved within 48, as well as a follow up call to check everything was now as it should be.
Absolutely worthwhile sending an email.

Meanwhile, re Currys. Stopped using them years ago. If I do go in it's only to have a look at a product before I order elsewhere. AO is my go to usually and they are yet to let me down. My only niggle is the irritating warranty phone call you invariably get after delivery.

Eura · 21/11/2019 16:52

@quietandstill Get media involved - Watchdog, Tony Hetherington, Money Box or if you have any Twitter following copy Curry's in to your rant on Twitter - all the major corporations hate to be named and shamed!

JinglingHellsBells · 21/11/2019 16:54

@Quietandstill That is not really a very detailed letter to the CEO. He may get in contact but it's not the way to write a letter of complaint.

You need to list the dates of the calls, the faults with the appliance,s dates purchased and so on, and give a very clear, bullet - point list of what happened.

Breathlessness · 21/11/2019 16:58

I’m sorry they were so vile.

Thank you for the heads up. I’m looking to buy a new tv, a laptop and a Magimix food processor before Christmas and I was going to look at Curry’s Black Friday deals. I’ll steer clear.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 21/11/2019 16:58

Aye, they’re shite.

I ordered, in store, a Mac Book Air from them earlier this year they told me it would arrive one week later. Rang on the day, nope not arrived. Asked when it would, they guaranteed (in a follow up email) it would be in on Wednesday. Dh went in to collect, still not there it would be another week. Thankfully he’d pooped home to grab my card so got a refund there & then. I bought one on the Apple (same price) site at 5pm it arrived at 10am the next morning.

Roussette · 21/11/2019 16:59

Yes. I told my large Company that I had found various complaints online with the same problems I had with the product and I was collating them and contacting Which? and everywhere with details of this problem and how I had been fobbed off. Also Martyn Lewis and google reviews, trustpilot etc etc.

I got a new product plus the value of it also.

Hidingtonothing · 21/11/2019 17:00

Not much help with your current issues I know but for future reference AO are brilliant and have customer service down to a fine art. Hope some of the advice gets you somewhere with Curry's, disgusting that they made you cry Sad

sam221 · 21/11/2019 17:03

I went into a branch last year to buy a KitchenAid, the store was closeby and I needed the item there and then.
My god, the staff member that 'helped' me was truly terrible. She actually stood in front me, super annoyed with me because I didn't want a box that was basically broken.
She behaved like she was doing me a favour by getting the item for me, from the back. She also loudly pointed out the price and asked me if I was aware of the price. Her whole demeanour was utterly vile and condescending.

Needless to say I walked out, popped into a Uber on my way to dinner party-got on my phone ordered from Amazon, with insurance and sent email forward of gift to recipient.

I am truly surprised that they are still going as a company, their customer service is absolutely appalling!

Time40 · 21/11/2019 17:03

Time40. I was, of course referring to the message on site?! Hard - yes/no?

No, that's not hard to understand, percheron67, but what I don't understand is why you would advise the OP to moderate her language when she contacts Curry's, as OP didn't use bad language in her message to Curry's. Anyway, it's something and nothing, so let's not have a big debate about it.

user1497207191 · 21/11/2019 17:04

Currys/Dixons/PCWorld group has been crap for decades. My first "experience" of how bad they can be was probably 30 years ago with a faulty video recorder which they said was my fault for not programming it properly and wouldn't replace. Eventually we got an engineer out to look at it who agreed it was faulty, but even then, the local store wouldn't give us a new one - they insisted they could only give us an ex-shelf one which had marks and scratches so we refused. Letter (no email in those days) to the Chairman and we got a letter back with instructions to take the letter to the local store to give us a brand new/boxed one. Manager there never said a word, just snatched it off us and instructed one of his underlings to bring us a new one, with lots of huffing and puffing, eye rolling etc.

Should have learned our lesson, but many years later bought a camcorder from their website. The website T&Cs clearly say items can be returned to store for refund. Manager in local store refused and said he'd only refund items bought in store. Cue another letter to the Chairman, and another letter back instructing us to take the letter back to store to show manager to instruct refund. Different store, different manager, but same rolling of eyes, huffing and puffing, not a word spoken to us, etc.

It's not just "minimum wage" shop floor staff who are awful, it's the store managers too!

MistyCloud · 21/11/2019 17:05

I have to largely agree. I have not had many good experiences with them and very rarely buy anything from there. I prefer Argos by a country mile.

I would rather pay 12-15% more for something (like £400 for a TV rather than £340-£350,) and get it from Argos, (rather than Currys/PC World,) because I have bought multiple items from Argos, and never ever had a single problem.

Cooker, bed, video games, TV, microwave oven, digital camera, lamps, DVDs... and loads of other things. On the rare occasion I have had to take something back, (because it's faulty,) they don't bat an eyelid and are happy to refund or replace. And they are always courteous and helpful.

They even gave me an exchange for something that broke - 6 months after I bought it (it was a design flaw, not me that broke it.) I couldn't find the receipt or packaging, and had got it cash so no way for them to find the transaction, or for me to prove I had bought it from there, yet they still gave me a replacement. Brilliant customer service. And for that, they have me as a regular (and very happy) customer, and I would recommend them to anyone.

They will also give you a refund if you have the receipt, even if it's not faulty and you have just changed your mind. (If it's within 4 weeks I think.)

Currys/PC World want you to give them your first born, along with your soul, as well as 15 pints of blood, before they'll give you a refund.. even if the item is faulty.

They also make a song and a dance of it if you buy a laptop/PC. They take you to a waiting area, to be seen by their 'I.T. experts' who will go through a tutorial with you, (especially if you're an 'old fogey' like over 45 - as people of that age use quills and abacuses still. Wink ) They will also offer to 'set up' your computer (for a fee of £45-50,) where they will pop a cheeky bit of adware/spyware on there!

Avoid.
Like.
The.
PLAGUE! Hmm

hopelesssuitcase · 21/11/2019 17:05

I have bought white goods from them with no problem. I didn't require much in the way of customer service though, and a different experience with a laptop.

Malbecfan · 21/11/2019 17:05

Currys have been ok for me, but I sympathise with the OP. However, all those raving about John Lewis should try the Exeter branch's home delivery. It's appalling. They delivered me a £950 Miele washing machine that had been dropped from a great height and was all smashed up. They claimed they couldn't remove the old machine as it was "too heavy" - DH and I did it between us and took it outside up 2 steps. Then they finally claimed that they couldn't plumb in the new replacement one because of our funny pipes. It took me 2 minutes to plumb it in, and that's because I was being careful. The funny pipes are a hot one (now not used), a cold one and a drain.

Every time I phoned to complain or chase it up, I was fobbed off and lied to. Eventually they decided that a £25 Waitrose voucher was recompense enough. It wasn't - I slagged them off on Twitter, on here, on FB and am still doing it. They are shocking.

Her0utdoors · 21/11/2019 17:05

Currys are appalling, cunts are amazing.
It took 15 months and innumerable visits from repair men to get a cooker refunded that was faulty on delivery. I used to have a trade account with them too, but don't use it anymore after that experience.

Confusedbeetle · 21/11/2019 17:06

Shame about your language, totally devalues anything you might say

Rosebel · 21/11/2019 17:14

I would write or email head office. I had to do this once when after a car crash my insurance company kept messing me about. 2_days after I sent the letter it was sorted out.
Obviously your situation is different but complaining might make a difference for the next customer.

Drabarni · 21/11/2019 17:14

Poor customer service is the fault of the company, nobody else.
If I ever (rarely) get good customer service it's always from the companies who treat their staff well.
Obviously Currys are a terrible company to work for, maybe 0 hour contracts too.

LilacTreeShades · 21/11/2019 17:15

They took four visits and nearly three weeks to mend my fridge/freezer. Under my extended warranty they had twenty one days to fix it and if it couldn't be sorted on the fourth visit I could get a replacement. I even had insulin needing to be refrigerated but it made no difference to them. The engineer suggested I asked my neighbour if I could store it in theirs, yes I'm sure she wouldn't mind me knocking on her door about 11 pm.
I will never buy anything there again.

gnushoes · 21/11/2019 17:20

If you're after TVs, hifi, that kind of thing then Richer Sounds is the place to go. They are wonderful. No, I'm not being paid by them, but bought my first item there as a student and it's still going strong more than three decades later and always had great service from them.

gnushoes · 21/11/2019 17:21

Oh and Debenhams are cunts too. I boycott them after an incident a long time ago.

Drabarni · 21/11/2019 17:22

Not much help with your current issues I know but for future reference AO are brilliant

Shame is they employ European Roma and treat them like shit.
Promise them accommodation which is a MHO with them sharing beds with different shifts. No help with language or our cultural expectations. My dsis has to teach the females how to use the toilet, the women share the same one as customers in the reception. The Roma know no different it isn't their fault, but what receptionist needs to see shit up the walls when they come in to work.

But hey ho,

SaveKevin · 21/11/2019 17:23

They should be all over customer service, it’s the one thing they can do the internet can’t.
They should be shit hot on it. It was the same with mothercare and all the others who have gone the same way. People have a choice now.

I hope you get it resolved op.

gingergiraffe · 21/11/2019 17:23

So many awful experiences here, not just with Curry’s. I hate to buck the trend but I personally have never had problems with Curry’s. Maybe I have just been lucky up til now though. Maybe the staff at my local store are just nice, helpful people or well managed.

In the past I had to return many steam irons before the extended guarantee ran out. No quibbles at all. On occasion they have had to look up whether or not my product was still under guarantee as I had lost the receipt. No problem. The last steam iron I bought was about a month old. I told them I was returning it as it was not fit for purpose as it never seemed to get hot enough. I was simply told to choose another one and I chose a more expensive steam generator one. I then only had to pay the difference between the two.

Mind you, if I have ever received less than good service I would always fight to get fair treatment. (Off topic but I once wrote to the financial ombudsman and got an extra £100 out of my son’s car insurers as I felt they had undervalued his written off car.)

percheron67 · 21/11/2019 17:24

Time40 Fair enough.

TulipCat · 21/11/2019 17:26

Totally agree with pp about your bad language. Classy.....
