To think I can't be the only one who likes Jo Swinson

She gets slated on twitter and irl I don't know anyone who likes her especially. But I think she's great (not perfect) and admire what she's doing and feel like she's someone I'd be friends with.

Well I can’t trust Johnson as he is a liar and incompetent and I can’t trust Corbyn as he is a Marxist and no leader. So Jo Swinson is my choice as although I have never voted Lib Dem before she is promising to stop Brexit and that is my prime concern before any other promises made by Johnson or Corbyn.

Where has she directly said she does t want GC critical women to vote Lib Dem?

If someone can show me this specifically I’d be really grateful

Just google her husband and see why she is so keen to remain in EU. I refer to her party as the Social Undemocratics.

What about all the other millions of people who want to stay in the EU though Confused Her husband has nothing to do with it.

She’s all style and no substance.
When I’ve listened to her make speeches / debate / answer questions etc, she’s seems to be lacking any political or business depth of knowledge.

I'll be voting for her for the sole reason that I don't want to vote Labour or Conservative. Best of a bad lot IMO

She's not standing as my MP so I don't get that chance. If she was I'd never vote for because she talks bollocks about sex and gender.

Sorry, to be clear she's not my MP either - but I'll be voting Lib Dem.

I think people fundamentally misunderstand what the LibDems stand for. There's this perception that they're a centre left party. They are not (and, in fact, I seem to recall Nick Clegg, explicitly saying this when they announced their coalition with the Tories in 2010)

Agree with all of this.

People who like Labour policies but don’t want to vote Labour for whatever reason (dislike of the leader, misconceptions about “Marxism”, just general unwillingness to identify with the left) vote Lib Dem hoping for Labour-lite. Sadly they are actually yellow Tories.

Lots of Labour policies are super-popular with voters. More money for NHS, rail renationalisarion, better public services, taxing the super-rich etc all poll very well until you tell people they are Labour policies. At which point they back off.

Sadly the Tories and Lib Dems are never going to bring in any left of centre policies - they simply don’t believe in them. A new, truly left of centre party would clean up. I’m not happy about that, I’m a Labour Party member significantly further to the left than that, but I do recognise it’s true.

No based on voting record. She’s my MP and won’t be voting for her. TBF I wouldn’t be anyway based on their stance on independence.

Googled her husband and this is what came up. What's the problem?

@Sashkin I think you’re totally right. I think one of the reasons the SNP have done so well here is they offer a left of centre option. I align more to the left than they are but I’m generally ok with their policies, enough to vote for them in FPTP elections.

Look at her voting record. She is personally responsible for austerity. She helped bring it in. Her voting record on welfare is absolutely horrific. She made the most vulnerable people in society more vulnerable.

This! 120,000 deaths due to 'austerity'. Plus she's a flaming misogynist.

I think on a personal level I would probably get on with her if we knew each other. I am glad to see a party leader that represents somewhere other than a part of London and the South East. The two more likely alternatives for Prime Minister are one who does not act on anti-semitic comments by party members, and another who is probably the most immoral man in public life.

I disagree though with the Lib Dem policy on staying in the EU without a referendum (which I want) and favour Scottish independence.

I don't like her. She was my MP for a long time, and I have met her a few times.

I feel like her election campaigns are disingenuous... run on the basis of her being the 'local girl, who went to local school', but she hasn't been a resident in the constituency for a very long time.
She appears to have her constituency office run by her lackeys and seems to rarely be there personally, even before becoming Lib Dem leader.
If she does show up, it's all about the photo opportunities. Gets the publicity shots and then is gone. She doesn't show genuine interest in the causes she visits, and doesn't even manage a decent pretence.

I won't add anything about her voting record, other people have covered that.

Unfortunately she probably will keep her seat at the next election. The SNP are her biggest opposition, but East Dunbartonshire voted strongly to remain in the UK at the independence referendum so I think they won't take back the seat.

I’m really not a fan of their childcare policy. It’s arse about face. All the evidence from child development Is that we be working towards extendIng parental leave, increasing part time hours (maybe a right to go part time if your child is under 2) and flexible working. Essentially normalising and funding babies to be separated from their parents at 9months is bad policy and bad science. As a society we will pay for that sort of approach.

@Andsoitisjust99, such an important point, well made. Just had to copy and paste to make sure it was read by as many people as possible.

Legalising cannabis....where the hell did that come from?? To fund schools etc no less. It does not seem as if the policies have been entirely thought through. I am all for legalising for medical reasons, but I am not sure we need even more drugs on our streets, and where does it stop. I wonder if it is a good idea to make drugs somehow acceptable to society.

Interestingly we work in Holland a lot, and generally our friends would not recommend it. It can be very addictive, and has ruined many users mental health permanently. Just what we need in our already overstretched NHS.

Report
keo8260 · 21/11/2019 19:32

Alcohol is addictive but legal and causes many health issues. It's the high thc containing cannabis that can cause mental health issues and that's all that is available in the UK. In holland people are fully informed of the different strains and therefore use it accordingly, no different to choosing between drinking sensibly or binge drinking. If cannabis was legalised people can then make safe choices over its use.

Report
Trewser · 21/11/2019 19:33

So would the high thc strains not be legalised then?
